This may seem like a lost cause, but with the announcement of World Of Darkness being canned, it just sparked a thought.
Has there been any further discussion about Walking In Stations or is that a lost cause that got canned as well?
Captains Quarters hasn't had any updates in a long time, and after getting trapped in a station with 7 war targets outside, it also got me wishing I could do more.
What if WIS was on a separate client/server? But still able to link your character, assets, wallet etc.
If there is a discussion about this still, please direct me to it. Or if this can be confirmed as 'canned'... i will quit my wishful thinking.
Cheers. |

I suspect it would be much more fun to walk in stations while alive. But I certainly won't stop you if you want to be a zombie.
The only confirmation there is is that the code assets related to it was 'depreciated by accounting'.

The truth is not dependent on a point of view.
Gold ammo and the "Greed is Good" memo was the cause. You Space Barbie apologists can wring your hands and bemoan that WiS died a rightful death alongside it as a result, and blame everyone else for "not understanding" or being "haters", but it's not true. Not really. If CCP had been able to actually release WIS with some usable content rather than just a little eye candy I bet it would have been a success. Or at least not a total failure. |

It's dead.
EVE is in maintenance mode to collect as much profit as possible to fund half-baked projects that will themselves get left unfinished as soon as they start chasing their next great idea.
EVE is a good game, but don't expect any REAL new content, just packages of tweaks and balances, a new coat of paint here and there touted as "expansions".
They shot themselves in the foot when they thought they were good enough to write their own engine that would be better than any of the off the self ones already available. Maybe they thought they could save a buck? Maybe they thought they were better coders? Who knows.
Anyhow, if its a complete space sim you are looking for that uses current tech like the Cryengine 3 that has ships you actually fly, planets you actually land on, and FPS content on the ships/stations/planets you wont be finding it in the EVE universe.

My favorite dream is the fabulous CEO having billions and billions of ISK to ensure security, wanders into a station and gets back-stabbed by a n00b at a hamburger stand. In other words...walking in station, very bad idea. Want a toon to walk around with? Get a game with toons you walk around with. There's hundreds! Yup, caused by the move to make microtransactions in eve a possibility and move towards pay to win... Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person." |

I think CCP realised that the average level of technology wasn't up to running the vision they had for WiS. A lot of people play eve on low powered rigs and so the Devs faced the decision of either toning down WiS, releasing something a lot of the player base couldn't actually play or putting it on ice for a few years and wait for the world to catch up.

How in the actual hell do you think vanity items are pay-to-win? This robot arm hasn't improved my ship's stats. My eyepatch hasn't improved the tracking of my turrets. My golden pod hasn't made me unpoddable.
I don't think any of you guys that talk about the NeX Store being P2W actually know what P2W is. But I'll give you a hint. There is no such thing as P2W in EVE. It can't exist in a game that is so actual player skill-intensive. Your ingame stats and the ship you are flying have so little to do with how well you perform. YOU, the player, have to know how to fit that ship, and how, exactly, to pilot it. SP is only about 5% of the equation. That moment when you realize the crazy lady with all the cats was right... |

If you want a good example of P2W microtransactions, go play Travian for a month or so. Have a look at all the little buffs you can buy for real money, and wait for someone using those buffs to attack you.
And that's a TAME example. That moment when you realize the crazy lady with all the cats was right... |

Walking in Stations died because CCP are **** games developers. After however many years of hoping it's become clear that CCP are completely incapable of delivering any good games. I also still hope for some little additions for the already implemented elements of WiS. At least it would be a nice thing to meet another charackter. I suppose that this would not be too difficult to implement.
As this only adds some social eye candy, it's not a harsh thing to others, whose computers are not capable to handle the GPU stressing scenario. |

The reason I'm against WiS is my fear that people will do that instead of undocking in spaceships. WiS has nothing to do with why I play EVE.
I do like the work they did with "Carbon" tho. I saw a trailer about that once and it looked pretty cool. The new character portraits are nice too.
WiS came about when they (CCP) went all Aurum. Bad timing. WiS has a fanbase and will please quite alot of people. But at the time, players were almost forced to decide where devtime went. (WiS + aurum) or (fix current EVE). That lead to a situation where guys like me went on a rage. Since "we' outnumbered the WiS group, it was delayed. CCP made a choice. For guys like me that made up for alot of "failure". I'm pretty sure some peeps in CCP had to HTFU when confronted with so much rage about their latest plans. The fact that they did... +1. The fact that players have such an influence... +10
Since there's a CQ and a carbon model, there's a foundation to build upon. I hope they never do, but if they ever manage to make it happen without giving the impression that "valuable" dev time is wasted... Well... If you promise to undock and play with me every now and then, I'll bring some flowers to decorate your new appartment. |

The smuggling element that EvE has but is currently completely broken was supposed to be WiS gameplay. That's what they were saying before the summer of whiners ran the project into the ground.

Summer of rage was about the game being in a sad state coupled with :18 months:, $1000 jeans and Fearless. We were happy to have CCP work on WiS but not till got their priorities straightened out and worked out the massive issues EVE had (and to an extend still has, although a lot has been done).

As an extra I'd very much welcome it, creating more diverse game play and possibly more immersion. |
