Anyone who has ever tried to create a Corporation or Alliance will be aware that finding a good Ticker is REALLY hard. Literally all of the good ones are taken. I therefore suggest a new game mechanic - Ticker trading.
Problem If player A creates a corporation, but finds that player B's corporation has already registered that ticker there is absolutely nothing that player A can do about it.
Solution Player A chooses a different ticker, then sends a request to player B to trade tickers. Player B can either agree or refuse, with a nice little UI to make it clear what exactly is being traded Ticker-wise. "Give me your corp Ticker" is added as an option to the war dec surrender mechanic. i.e. the aggressor can say "swap tickers with us and we'll let you go" Corps that are empty, closed or whose CEO is on an inactive account will lose their Intellectual Property rights. That means that they automatically trade Tickers with anyone who sends them a request. Potential Abuses People could spam "Give me your corp Ticker" requests. Solutions CEOs will have an option to auto-reject such requests so they never have to deal with it. Why is this a good idea? People in EVE fight over everything and anything already. We fight over insults (both real and perceived), we fight over territory, we fight over pocos and moons.... we fight because we want something that somebody else has (and occasionally because we are butt hurt). I think it's high time we were able to fight over Intellectual Property as well as actual (virtual) property. Fleet Bookmarks New Gravimetric Sites Med Clones 2.0 |

I think this is a rather good idea - but you forgot one detail - closed corps lose rights to their tickers too no wait - you have covered that - reading fail
I still like your idea... but - this needs to bring the option for a corp to change it's ticker without doing a direct swap; corp A has the ticker [*****] corp B has the ticker [B-O-B] corp A declares war on corp B, wins, and forces ticker swap corp B is stuck with [*****]
unless corp B can then change their ticker, say over DT, so they have to live with [P****] for 23 hrs or whatever, and then they can swap to [BRIAN], for instance (assuming it's available)
and corps MUST NOT be able to hoard tickers - or some jerk deccer corp will use it to grief various indy corps until there are no tickers left that mean anything. For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it WILL be. |

Corp B can always get an alt to make corp C, swap with them then close corp C. Though a direct ticker change would be a better idea.
Maybe have corp names also transferable like this. |

The ticker swap is a good idea. You don't need to build it into the wardec mechanics, as the wardec mechanics are infinitely abuseable.
You never need to surrender a war, so it isn't like you can force someone to give up their ticker. They will simply leave a alt-ceo-corp holder that never logs in to make the wardec meaningless and retain the ticker forever.
FYI, there are over 70 million different combinations you can make the 5 alphanumeric ticker. I doubt there are over 100k corps created in this game, so you really should be able to find a ticker you want.

......tap tap tap .......tap tap tap.....tap tap tap....tap .... tap ....tap...the sound of the Trolz doing a tap dance in its pink too-too while the Great and Terrible Eye of Kamio looks on with approval.
The idea does warrant an appeal. |
