So....
This happened last night...
Then, the subsequent battle report I was unable to post in...
Now you'l notice in thread A, that the "General GD Populace" are doing what they normally do. In the thread stats, the top ten posters are all General Discussion regulars. And up until that final fateful moment, you notice a lot of facetiousness, wit, and a good time for everyone involved. Not to mention rationality and logic.
Thread B, however, is a different story.
Thread B introduces Poster D and Poster S, who turn the facetiousness of the "General GD Populace" into a breeding ground for RL threats, irrationality, and the basis for the straight-to-DvD film..."EvE Is Dying."
Those, of course, are examples, and I would ask that discussion refrain from these things for obvious purposes. Instead, I propose another question, one that had been on my mind for quite some time.
Poster D and Poster S consider themselves "paragons" of the EvE community. Everyone else is "scum" who deserve to have their real life threatened. You can throw in Poster LS, but they are hit and miss. Too busy with national and international law enforcement agencies to post consistently. But hey....why not?
Now the rest of us, who I will just label the "General GD Populace," do not attack a person's RL. I see a little smug, a lot of wit, facetiousness dialed to 25, and endless pop culture references.
So my question is this...
Going beyond simply the forums, and even into the client, why are the content creators considered "bad guys?"
I mean, let's do the checklist. We have all seen the threads. So the checklist is primarily composed of the results of various "whine" threads.
-Ganker.......bad guy. -Baiter.........bad guy. -Afk cloaker...........bad guy. (This one my be legit. Who knows how many dog-wielding bouncers there are afk-cloaking out there ) -Scammer........bad guy. -Legit Isk Doubler......bad guy. -Forum Warrior.......bad guy. -All-round Pirate......bad guy.
But yet, in the time I have played this game, the above have never been anything but nice.
Smug? Sure.
Hilarious? Absolutely.
Logical? Most definitely.
So I am curious, what makes the "content creators" so intrinsically evil, and what makes people like Poster S, Poster D, and Poster LS....the "paragons of justice."
And if the content creators are actually the "bad guys," is it truly as Rust Cohle postulated? That the world needs bad men? To keep the other bad men from the door?
Discuss....
