Warning, this is a slightly drunken Eve post. About time I did one!
Things Eve has let me do:
I've been in Eve with one account and several others soon more for a decade. Built a corp with a couple of RL friends and down the road an alliance that got over 300+ members. Entered the alliance tournament twice, once with at least two epic events (the first ever Battle Blackbird and an epic fail assassination attempt) and one epic face plant in our second attempt.,
Got to have some of the most amazing members and some of the worst scammers, The awesome guys you know who you are!
Elected to CSM several times. Met the most amazing folks there! I love Iceland and CCP forever!
Got to go to fanfest and it is life changing! Got to learn there is a lamb sandwich you could create a religion around!
Not bragging, just saying I've had a lot of the Eve experience. I still am sold on the game, I probably don't deserve how much I have gotten out of this game. That really is my challenge, I don't know how to keep that happening and I very much I hope I can.
I helped found BRUCE, lived in Syndicate, trusted some pirates to safely let my freighter out of a null system when BRUCE couldn't face the pirates and decided in the end pirates have their honor, had BRUCE put spies in my corp after that to get us kicked out of BRUCE and Syndicate. Formed BEEP and rebuilt, had a s stream of the most amazing folks stick with us or join us for 5 plus years. Still in the game after all the asshats of BRUCE are all long gone.
We were part of the goons when they were learning how to own Eve. We left when the first goon wars got serious (we were told the more care bear types like us could leave and come back after it was safer) We even created the Freespacers for the folks that like me that wanted to stay and fight..
Later on manager to **** off the Goons and became one of the orgs they wanted gone with extreme prejudice . Sad because it was based on such a basic misunderstanding, :-( I really did want to get to work with the Mitanni! Damm you excessive adult beverage!! I think BEEP still has one of the highest alliance bounties! :-)
"Advice to new players, find a way to avoid the scammers, join the Goons and enjoy Eve. The Goons own Eve and I expect that not to change, They are fun and you should be able to enjoy most of Eve much easier than folks not part of the Goons."
Pretty much Tada O and BEEP did it all. Got lots of new players, Did all sorts of amazing things!
But then over the last year everyone in BEEP seemed to fall out of love with Eve, :-(
But now almost of the core of my firenda (both RL and virtual) have left Eve. We built an amazing pile of wealth. But the sort of "carebear with claws" casual experience seems gone.
I'm really looking for a way to reboot, if not Tada O/ BEEP then me. If not bringing the corp/alliance back to where we were then to just find the passion I once had for Eve. I have many characters across many accounts trained to most any focus but I am looking to find how to get back to "I can't enough sleep because of all the time I spend on Eve" experience I once had.
So this is call out to the bitter vets and others, where do I find that "OMG, Eve is amazing experience again?" Everyone I know in Rl sems to have no interest in Eve anymore.
Looking for the new shiny!
Anyone out there lose the love and found a way back?
Eve I just can't quit you but damm! You are not making it easy any more!
Where is the best of the current Eve? Consider me a noob with 100K plus skills in 4 characters, several corps, an alliance, a huge BPO library and 40 billion+ isk, What would you do?
No you can't have my stuff! Actually some folks with the best replies might get some of my stuff! |

I am sort of leaning towards that. "Eve with fresh eyes" I've got an alt totally right for a random pirate type. No connection, all the isks have been made like a new player.
I have one pirate character and one indusrtial type that I have kept totally separate.

This isn't for everyone, but for me the best part of EVE are the other people inside it. You mention you IRL friends a couple of times and it seems like to me their friendship was a core part of your experience. There are quite a few social outlets in EVE.. forums, chat, voice, mumble, reddit, and so on. Find people you mesh with and take on something just you with all your wealth and experience couldn't accomplish alone in EVE.

Find a niche.
I hopped from isk grinding, to sov grinding as a line grunt, to now being a pirate.
Don't make the game about numbers.
Make it about fun.
Don't make it about goals.
Make it about today.
After all, only space pixels.
I once had plenty of isk and assets.
Now I live at subsistence levels.

So for me it has never been about numbers/wealth/power/fame/stuff. It has always been about community/tribe. In fact f I could go back in time and make one change I would NEVER have shown any interest in the CSM. The attention it brought on my tribe was definitely a bad thing.
So how do I find that new tribe while I still have a sleeping one? I know they will be back. |

That's why the "fresh start" character should be an alt, while you retain access to your main account. You can bring the fledgling tribe into the fold when the time is right, if you so choose. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

Something tells me this will be one of the weirder replies in here...
Like you i have been around and done quite a bit over the past few years, been in 0.0, been in leadership positions in both corporations and alliances, high sec, wh', 0.0. Been in low sec coalitions, been a carebear, been an anti pirate, have come to realize that things are not black and white and that being an "anti pirate" causes a lot more drama then its worth on top of things
I have rage quit after having been woken up at 3 in the morning by yelling corp members because their ore dident get compressed, been robbed, been betrayed, gotten friends, lost friends, gone back, done missions, done mining...way way to much mining...
But, in the long run i, just like most everyone else, i got burned out. Nothing of what i used to enjoy was "fun" anymore. The only thing that kept me playing was the corp, and the sense of responsibility that comes with that. Needless to say it was not enough.
So i moved to rookie systems. Spent my days answering questions, arguing about the rules with people who abused the new players, listening to jokes and chatter in local and seeing people be excited about the game. How big it is, how much there is to learn, how confused they are by things that most vets will find boringly simple.. And i have enjoyed it!
It might sound silly but sitting there watching people be so excited about these things have helped me remember what I used to enjoy about EVE, what made it such an unique experience in the first place. And of course it dosent hurt when new players tell you how much they appreciate you helping them
So, here i am, spent about a year in rookie systems, dead broke from no income (and continuing expenses in the way of small events and random donations) and i finally feel ready to... return from my vacation and spend some time actually undocking once in a while (its been bad enough that its become a running joke that i cant find the undock button ).
But well, thats just me, but my advice.. Try something new.. You cant re-create what you once had, it will never be the same. Dont try to make that your goal. But look for new people, set new goals for your self, and you might find that your enjoying your self more then you have in a long time

It all depends on what you want to do.
Any tribe is a tribe.
Doesn't have to be a corp.
Can be a community.
Or several communities.
Things come and go, it is the ebb and flow of EvE.
But you know this.
Just find what sounds fitting and run with it.

Been in eve for allmost ten years with 2 small breaks in between.
The way i keep the game interesting is by being a drifter. For example 2 years ago i did marketing for 6 months , went to solo syndicate roaming a few months , back to bpo buying/reselling/researching 6 months , moved to syndicate for small alliance pewpew and plexing. After that went back to piracy for 2 months and then went to join the CFC for 6 months to 'enjoy' the halloween war.Now i am in a faction warfare alliance as of a few months playing with solo pewpewing in frigs mostly.
The only way for me to keep the game interesting is to not stay too long in one place.I make friends in all aspects of eve be it carebearing , solo pewpewing or blobfleeting and so far only once left because of some 'drama' wich was yearssss ago.Every time i join a new corp i make clear that if they look at my corphistory they will see that i am not there for the long run but a 2 to 6 months max 'vacation' .I do try to contribute to whatever that corp/alliance needs when i am there so it's not just joining to leech on something it's joining to have a new experience OR to re-live an experience i once had.For example the current alliance i help seeding the markets , jf'ing stuff around and 'give my idea's on certain directions ' .
The only things i keep my hands off is being in a directors role because of endless drama-lama as i found out in my first years of eve , wormholes as it does not attract me in the slightest and incursions for the same reason as wormholes .But who knows maybe in a few months i might head that direction , i never know where i end up a few months later as i totally have no 'longterm plans'.
Basically it can be summed up by an old song :
' I'm the kinda guy who can never settle down , where pretty things blow up you know that i'm around . They call me the wanderer , yeah the wanderer , i roam around around ... '
We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.

As it has already been mentioned, having fun in a game like EVE is all about the social aspect. Ive spent weeks playing this game solo, and weeks playing the game with other people over mumble etc, It makes a huge difference. First of all I would try out different corps until you found one with like minded players, this game like every other online game becomes so much more fun when you have like minded players who are social and online at the same times as you are.
Then if you cant figure out exactly what you want to do, give yourself a list of challenges: I will kill 10 players in pvp without dying. I will generate x amount of income from a POS/PI. I will build this ship from scratch. I will be able to do these missions in x amount of time.
Whatever you find to be fun, be it mining, pvp, exploring or whatever, set yourself a list of challenges, and then go out to complete them with a bunch of people you enjoy playing with ;) |

I'd advise not to try to recapture or recreate. Be glad of what was. Don't ruin what could be by trying to bend it into what came before. You may well have experienced your glory days. You may well become part of something greater than those...as long as you don't ruin the chance by expecting the past to replay itself. That will never happen. Pretty much that.
I would also like to add, I see a lot of players doing the things they think they need to do or are supposed to do in this game, a kind of "when in Rome" attitude. This is why we see week old players trying to form corporations and getting turbo-stomped in a wardec a week later.
Therefore, don't try to play the game the way it was meant to be played, but instead find some out of the box things to do. You might even change the game or some aspects of it. From piracy to player-sponsored live events for example.
Given further thought, I think the OP is more qualified to be "emergent" in this game than most other players. Almost an enviable position for having done it all, can now do that which was not intended. The "end game" may well not be a feature or intent of the game. Bring back DEEEEP Space! |
