For a drone boat with a huge drone bay what would be the better thing to do: fill it with one type of drone or have a full compliment of 5 drones of each damage type? |

There is no clear answer to that as the mission determines the purpose. If you are ratting in a specific section, you might never need the electronic warfare drones... But you might want to use the salvaging drones instead in those places. In short.... your drone selections should be based on the enemy you expect. |

... or have the same drone damage type with different size drones to deal with bigger or smaller enemies. |

Generally people will use flights of the same type of drone. This is the same principle as fitting the same type of guns, rather than mixing multiple different type of guns used for different purposes. Call it minmaxing, if you will, you want to specialize in one thing rather than be terrible at everything.
For example, a ship with 25 bandwidth and 75 drone bay intending to pvp would carry something such as:
- 5 Hobgoblin II's (Highest DPS) - 5 Warrior II's (Warrior have highest speed, can catch quick targets) - 5 Hornet EC-300's (ECM light drones, escaping, reducing damage)
This way, you have three types of drones to deal with a number of different kind of scenarios.
The summer expansion will revamp drones quite heavily, so while currently minmatar/gallente drones are the best, they will all have their ups and downs. www.minerbumping.com |

In an Ishtar (125 bandwidth, 375 drone bay) my default is:
- 5 Garde 2 (long range for cruisers and larger) - 5 Ogre 2 (close range for targets that are stasis webified) - 5 Warrior 2 (for use on super fast or super small targets such as player-piloted Interceptors) - 5 ECM drones - Spares of whatever I feel is most likely to be lost. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=326497 --áPsychotic Monk for CSM! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. In PvE it's pretty simple:
- find out what drones will be best for the job, meaning... --- they compliment your already existing damage (ex. drones for point defense against frigates and close range foes) --- they make up the majority of your damage and your ship fit works to enhance them (ex. drone-centric boats) - carry spares of the drones you need.
In PvP things get a bit more hairy:
- almost always carry around 5x Warriors for "point defense" against frigates. - unless you are fit for brawling (see: you have a warp scrambler and web to keep the enemy "pinned"). - if you are flying mostly solo then try to carry some ECM drones (if you have spare room) for those "I want to GTFO but I'm pinned" situations. - in larger ships (cruiser and up) follow the first point and... --- medium drones if you don't have much spare drone space (ex. Abaddon, Rokh). --- heavy or sentry drones, depending on whether you are brawling at close range or fighting at medium-long range respectively. - if you have extra space on top of that (in the case of dedicated drone boats) carry whatever else you feel will be useful (based on experience and/or tactics). Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

My current Gila loadout (125/400mb) is
5x Garde II 5x Bouncer II 5x Heavy Shield Bot II 5x Hobgoblin II
After the Summer expansion the mb is 20/100 (-100/-300) 10x Hammerhead II
which I feel is not a good change, so mothballing the Gila and switching to Ishtar for me it's not just about the dps, too much versatility has been lost |
