With summer coming and CCP told us it will make a lot of stuff to make manufacturing more fun and simple here is my suggestion.
Why a large ship assembly array can't build smaller ships? That doesn't make sense so I suggest any bigger assembly array to be able to built smaller ships. |

I believe this idea of specialization of assembly arrays is to promote, well, specialization. i don't have a strong opinion on it, but...
Why should advanced ship assembly arrays penalize your materials efficiency (materials multiplier of 1.1)? Why would i use those, instead of an NPC station? https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4259327 - more suff in the Zero.Zero collection |

No my friend I'm not talking for specializiation like advanced ship assembly arrays I m talking for large ship assembly array that doesn't make sense not be able to create something smaller than a battleship. After all it's a production line and it's big why it can't handle something smaller?

Totally different manufacturing tools required...you can't switch the run line in a car factory from one model to another in rl...doing this for ships the size of frigs to ships the size of BS would be very difficult just because of the change in scale let alone anything else |

Ok I understand what you are saying then what if you couldn t simultaneously built battleship and a frigate but you had the choice of what ships you ll built every time you would start the production.

I could see how it makes sense that a large ship assembly array should be able to make T1 frigs.
That being said, I would have to say that if a large ship assembly array were to be allowed to make frigs, that any ship the array was not designed for, would have a time multiplier of 1.0 because the array is specialized to manufacture the large ships.
*Note I only used the large ship assembly array building frigs as an example and that it should be the same system across all other assembly arrays and ship sizes provided the assembly array is larger then the ship. Lowering the average to make you look better since 2012. |

I think I agree with this. If you allow a large ship assembly array to build anything smaller, you would need to offset that new ability to prevent the large array from becoming the default array. To state it another way, you would need to penalize building a frigate in a large array so that small arrays still have a place and purpose. (Building frigs fast)
It does make sense that a large array should be able to build anything up to it's upper size limit, but it also makes sense that building a Kestrel instead of a Raven would be penalized with time because of retooling and blah blah blah |

Really agree with the sentiment in general, CSAAs have a value of their own but why do we need separate arrays for say Drones and Ammo? Its the sort of needlessly obtuse thinking that brought us Security and Internal Security agents.
With the general ideas being less awkward interfaces and less reliance on the empires (in effect station services) it seems as good a time as any to streamline these structures. Its a small change that would benefit all areas of space. Travelling at the speed of love. |

We could just make all arrays into "Ship Assembly Array" and "Advanced Ship Assembly Array" and then "Capital Ship Assembly Array". Increase the fitting cost of subcap arrays to be on par with whichever one currently costs the most.
It would simplify and streamline things 400%. |

Simplify... sure, but that's not always desirable. It's about specialization. You have to make choices about what you want to build. |

I think it should stay as is myself, you must then choose what you are building more carefully or build a manufacturing POS with less defence...the choice is yours...

Well, every time we make something easier; we are essentially making the pilot need to think less.
Okay, that is all well and dandy. But when that **** keeps repeating itself, and 5 years down the line you start noticing that people appear to be quite the bunch of some stupid mother *******;
It is **** like this that needs to stop: stop simplifying. Kick those self-fufilling job-secuirty generating parasites up in CCP OUT(!!) before they WRECKING THE GAME just cause they needed to pay some bills.
This is exactlyy the same **** that killed wow; i am not making that **** upp, for i am just telling you waht heppened.
STOP SIMPLIFYING!!!!!!!!! You need to think inorder to train the brain; else when you need to USE BRAIN it happens to be HARD!

The factory is optimized for handeling large components. To have a factory make size S and size L (or whatever size difference) would infer that the station is not optimzed. Are we not talking about a station-addon floating in space (by definition it has to be optimized * ). If not, then i would not see a flaw about the said factory being non-optimzed; and thus, it should be able to handle all sizes.
* Has to be optimzed: consider the added power consumption should the station have modules that could handle large and small items; granted that, that, would only be 7% more components(asembly arms or some such moduels) in the station; it would still not be optimized due to added said 7% . Making some mechanins of a game more simple doesn t mean always it makes the game worse .And if something makes sense why not adding it in in this game.Thank you all for posting I hope CCP sees it and make some changes. |

POSes are such a ridiculous awful nightmare to interact with already. I think it's reasonable to simplify and streamline something that's about as pleasant as brushing your teeth with a hedgehog. |
