I been playing eve since 03, and pretty much quit in 2010-11 with resubbing every few months thinking ill get back into eve again and it never happens... but EvE stays special to me being my first MMO and not horrible (I am not a fan of modern MMO's of Grinding countless levels and raiding for lame gear)
Ive always been heavily into PvP.. BUT that was then when it would be a group of a few of us and we wouldn't get blobbed to death wherever we went. Last time i went out looking for fights it was near impossible finding a decent fight.
I have never tried out faction warfare, but fought FW in a pirate corp and it seemed like they were rather disorganized the majority of the time. I really like worm holes, but sometimes it feels old always being in the unknown. I dont want to dedicate a huge amount of time to eve, just a few hours a week and it seems most activities in eve requires a lot of dedication through my past experiences.
Anyone have any ideas / suggestions what might get me interested? I can fly all ships, owned a super but sold it a while back as sov grinding with it got super boring.

Welcome back to Eve.
Here's an idea - since the FW gangs seemed disorganized to you before, how about joining it and put your past experience to good use by helping them to become more organized.

whenever I want to try something new on eve I Google "*something new in eve* sucks".
Example.... "Faction Warfare Eve Sucks" then you can read all possible rants and complaints.. after that decide for yourself. You say you don't like being blobbed... Whereby someone with more friends leverages their comparative strength, as a winning tactic. Based on your apparent outlook on this, I gotta ask: Have you tried playing on the other side of things? Have you joined a nullsec group that's organized, competent, retains membership, and attracts allies? Where your main foe are other such large and successful organizations? Where your projects including building up a more resilient sandcastle, and wrecking others'? Where people work to create more complex and effective interactions between corpmates and alliance-mates than they would elsewhere?
If you are working on assumptions or preconceived notions, and are looking for something different, maybe it's time to join the so-called blob. Not sure what you've been doing, or are doing now, but we're having fun. This game is full of different gameplay styles, and many views to be had on them. But the popular playstyles are all popular because they're fun or compelling, one way or another. If you trust in that, then maybe you've still got a lot of options to try out.

Join a corp that isn't expecting PVP, and bring it to them in the form of a good old fashioned AWOXing.

I've been unable to find another corp that will allow me to do anything and everything. BNI seems more focused on fun than anything else.
I'm still looking. |

Thanks for the responses everyone.
About this. Last time i was in a big null sec corp / alliance yes i did have some fun but my main problem was the roams took FOREVER! It rarly was go out for half an hour or an hour and get a fight, it was more so go out for a few hours and HOPE for a fight.
Things might have changed since, this was a few years ago when everything was a sea of blues. But there was a time when i had a blast and was party of a "hard core" PvP corp / alliance where we ALWAYS fought outnumbered, and majority of the time won. I think 1 month i got almost 500 kills with "casual" play (few hour a week) It was very intense and fun, every roam i went out on i was guaranteed beautiful tears and explosions.
While it was very fun in that sense unfortunately for me i didn't really like anybody in corp.. being a family man with kids and all i didnt like how most people in the corp acted either elitist pricks or couldn't go 2 words without swearing or linking ****. All my friends i once played with in EvE are long gone, and since then is when its been the hardest to stay dedicated.. but like i said i just find every other MMO / game out there lacking of something.

Well, fleets that form up, start a fight, and resolve it in less than an hour can be tough to find. I'm sure there's guys out there that can manage this with some regularity, but I think they'll be in the minority. There's so many ways for a fleet's time to stretch out beyond what was intended... Murphy's Law, and all.
The way I figure it, ones ability to get action is mostly reliant on what region they live in. Some regions are volatile, creating more opportunity for quicker action. If we're talking null-sec, I think this is another one of those minorities. But some good candidates are regions that have pockets of NPC space. That allows for pretty close proximity between opponents. My home in Delve has this feature. Lots of fighting, with enemy staging points within a handful of jumps or less. I'm not sure what the best way would be to find other such hot-spots, though.
Also, it sounds like your game experience would get a lot better if you found a better culture fit. You should look for a corp with a high age limit, like say, 30. There's also the occasional family-friendly corp, who keep the swearing and misanthropy at lower levels. Not many of those around, but they do exist. Maybe you'll even find one that has a PVP focus. In nullsec. In a conflict-ridden area.
*cough* /points at signature below *cough*
Self-promotion aside, it does seem like Eve could be a lot more compelling for you if you found the right corp.

Well... when I came back to EVE after a yearlong break, I was tricked. By old EVE buddies.
They knew I was messing around in H-sec. So they offered me to join their h-sec corp. Which went lowsec 4 days after that. Which joined a nullsec alliance 3 weeks after that. Sneaky....
Fact is I enjoy the ability to shoot or get shot at/by anybody. So I am in fact where I am supposed to be.
Things you yourself may want to look into are WH's or joining Brave/SS/Test. Both these groups have fight often. You'll get a feeling for today's landscape fast enough with your experience. |
