Pirate's name: LaneHacker
I want to warn you all of a pirate that was harring me and my friends in Funtanainen/Lonetrek this morning (cet).
I entered space out off current station and immedeatly a threat popped up, but since I don't know this player for being a threat I went on mining. After a while he approach me in the asteroid belt and starting orbitting at a 5 km distance. He invited me to a private chat session:

It's a system similar to the real world, where criminals hide behind technicalities and lawyers to avoid jail.
People like him are common. Usually, they try not to shoot anyone, to keep their security status, and to avoid Concord. They will shoot your ore cans, though, and if you shoot back, Concord will attack you.
You need to use secure containers, and otherwise ignore him. Add him to your addressbook and warn everyone whenever you see him log on. |

Sweri, a month or so ago the NGRU corp had a problem of a similar nature -- a punk calling himself Doomsoldier was making a nuisance of himself by thieving ore. He stold ore mined by one of the NGRU corp newbies and then cursed at 'em for asking why.
I managed through some contacts to lure the poor sap into a 0.4 sector of space. When he warped in, I locked him and proceeded to warp scramble and web stasis his Industrial. The heavy modulated lasers I had mounted on my ship did the talking and all he could do was sit and go BOOM! Later through contacts I heard that he'd said he had nothing but "rare" modules mounted on his Industrial. The cargo can he ejected had a standard afterburner and cargo expander. I gave them to the newbie in the NGRU corp that lost the ore due to Doomsoldier's thievery.
I contacted his CEO, told him about the incident and he was booted from his corp. He joined another corp, and I sent THAT corp's CEO a bit of Evemail with the ore theft details and he was booted again.
Don't let the pukes get under your skin Sweri, get EVEN with 'em, and the best way to do that is nail their bank account to the nearest 'roid with nails from their own garage.

Hmm, just because you seem to have a can thief story posted on the Eve site, it doesn't mean that you are not currently exploiting the Miners lack of ability to defend his can.
Does somebody feel like writing the followup to this interesting little tale, where the can thief runs into the miners' Corp mates and Concord stands to one side and watches ?

Well, at least LaneHacker had some degree of manners when doing about this.
Personally, I will keep on forever targeting those in Cruisers, or Battleships, that use non-secure cargo containers.
If you have the money to spend on a Cruiser and God knows how many Mining Lasers/Drones, you should expect to be targeted if you insist on using said non-secure cans.
Besides, would you rather pay the money that's demanded (Like this LaneHacker chap, I often "ask" for around 50,000 to 100,000ISK in exchange for the safety of the cans) or would you prefer to lose an absurd amount of ore that would get far more than what is asked for?

alexa,you poor expliotive newb.
first off there are ways to explitoively kill you can thieves.
but most of us dont use them.
unlike your ilk we prefer to actually try and use the real game mechanics to outwit halkfwits.
at last resort ill gladly take a sec hit for podding a known ore thief, grow into a real pirate,so then you actions have meaning, and can be dealt with fortuitously.or go away CEO/Manufacturing and Research

We exploit the law, yes, but not the game.
In a "real" context, CCP couldn't care less about non-secure cargo holders, even they say that people must use them at their own risk.
In a "game" context, it's highly likely CONCORD have more important matters to attend to than some civil dispute over ore ownership and the involved containers.
Ore thieves such as myself do use the "real" game mechanics. We, or a number of us do at least, hold non-secure, jettisoned containers to ransom to make a small profit, in addition to letting the Miner keep the Ore they've spent a while extracting.
It's not too far apart from the "toll" idea that many people use at Jumpgates.
Finally, if my actions have no meaning then why is a new Thread about Ore Thieves almost every five minutes?
I don't care about justifying my actions, nor do I care how many people shout "exploit".
I just care about the ISK involved.
Myself and my character have chosen this path, we're not about to leave it just because someone does not wish to Mine in somewhere lower than 0.5 or use secure containers.

Interesting to note that, despite my actions "not having any effect", you seem willing to waste your time making a new character, training them up in the art of combat them constantly hounding me to try and stop my thievery.
Irony, anyone?

These silly GRIFF people just tried to scare me by telling me to stay out of a 0.9 System!
Hah! Laughable, if anything they (Fru Greed specifically) opened up an invitation for me to come to that 0.9 system.
Please, your idle threats are nothing but amusing to me, just like your fully loaded Cruisers with miners constantly locking me.
If you're gonna lock me, at least take some shots at me, I don't mind... I call your bluff, so next time pack some heat when you try to display your might.
Food for thought
PS - I wrote down your ATL Char Sweriskakka, very careless of you.

If someone can take his time and ask every corp he meets about their future goals there is a good chance a 50% of them will answer you they re minning for ther bships and will become pirates, when they are outgunned they just call these persons griefers, but when they think they can, then its their law against all the others, and get ****ed if anyone is calling them too as griefers. Its simple that many people want the easy way out and they will do everythink in their power to have it like that, including *****ing in the forums about it. Later on they will discover the game mechanics suck and the probability of them being on the loser side is great, they will just upgrade their carebear tactic to a regional alliance or some sort where ussualy is 10 allies vs 1 pirate, it is really a shame seeing all this 0.0 sectors and no actuall fights. What is killing this game is that many ppl want an easy way out, problem is that everybody thinks the same, we end up with no fun whatsoever. CCP should not comply so easily to demands of fear losing some poriton of its customer base, its either adapt or leave, many new players will fill this void, when the word gets finally out, EVE will have players that are up to every challenge EVE posses before them. Right now many tend to think mistakenly that EVE is a carebear heaven and therefore carebears must be served fist.
Every man lives..but not every man dies!

I don't.
Know why?
People with the larger mining operations, and therefore have more wealth, tend to be the ones in high sec space with non-secure cans.

My Dear LaneHacker,
Yes, what you do is ölegalö by the rules of EVE but that does not save you from being seen as the lowest form of trash in space. You are a thief, a wannabe extortionist and YOU started it by threatening to blow up our containers and target our corp-members did you not? Btw, it looks more like you were begging to get some ISK to start with?
ô[ 2003.09.21 02:02:20 ] LaneHacker > 100k is nothing for a person mining in a Thoraxö
Nice argument, ôbut you have such a nice ship, please give me some moneyö. Sorry, but it does not work like that. And threats donÆt work either, that will only cause you grief. I donÆt think I have read one thread regarding ore-thieves and their actions that have shown any respect towards people like you. To be honest, isnÆt it so that most of the inhabitants of the EVE universe think characters like you are pathetic? Even the bigger pirate-corps donÆt sink this low (mostly ;).
And what ever was said in local you probably deserved it, how ever, it will not be repeated again, you are somewhat right, one should not use too much bad language, it only takes time of from the use of brute force.
As a result of your actions you are now to be considered a target you have been warned. And from what I hear you are running with your tiny little tail between your legs from our forces right this minute. You talk the talk but you donÆt walk the walk, thatÆs for sure.
One last thing, what do you mean by ôI call your bluff, so next time pack some heatö? Come back then, right now, bring your gear and letÆs get it on! And this time, be somewhat like a man and donÆt hide behind Concord, or maybe thatÆs the only thing youÆre good atà

Lanejacker or whatever was playing an accepted role in Eve, however unsavory it may be.. it's still an accepted role to play.
Sweriskakka, on the other hand, was obviously being very abusive verbally to other players, and obviously not in any sort of role-play.
Anyways, mine with secure containers or in 0.5 or higher space and you won't have to worry about that kind of vermin. :)

You GRIFF are a funny lot.
I feel honoured that you went to the trouble of creating an ALT Pirate Corp in a 0.4 system in order to lure me there.
Sorry to say, one of your GRIFF mates lacks total tact, he/she couldn't even pull it off in the END...
Next time have someone more clever to run such a scheme!
Your attempts at persuasion are laughable at best. Keep on trying though...
Oh and as far as me running from your "forces":
BBBBWWWWWHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
Get back to mining GRIFF Corp, oh and that ALT of yours that got blown up; I'll be using YOUR ammo against YOU which I salvaged, gotta love the irony in that.
