hi,
my gf birthday is coming up, shes already askedfor something specific - tropical fish - and i intend to by her them but i was thinking what else could we do on the day that would be cool and fun.
I was thinking maybe take her rally car driving but i dont know if thats a good idea or if its just something that i would like to do.
other than that i guess we could go into london for the day eat, get drunk, hang out etc. but we could do that any weekend. I want to do something fun and special.
any ideas?
thanks in advance :) |

We know nothing of your likes and dislikes.
We know nothing of her likes and dislikes specifically.
Are you so un-confident (or young) you can't think of something on your own ? If so, are you really ready for a full-on relationship ?
Sorry, but it just seems odd to me to ask about this kind of stuff on a gaming forum. Ask your real life friends. "He has mounted his hind-legs, and blown crass vapidities through the bowel of his neck."-á - Ambrose Bierce on Oscar Wilde's Lecture in San Francisco 1882 |

Since you're getting her some tropical fish, how about visiting an aquarium or other sea-related attraction?
A few days ago I would've suggested a trip to the seaside, but it's gotten a bit chilly recently. |

Actually no, he's not trolling... My first thought when reading this was 'how long has this guy known this woman?' and my second was 'does this guy even know the woman?'
You know what she likes and dislikes (or should know) only you can decide what would be good or wouldn't... We could spout everything from picknic at the beach, through to take her to the theatre, through to propose to her... But only you would (should) know what she would like...
Your (and hers) RL mates would be a better option to go for advice over this... They will know you both better... Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person." |

If you don't think you know her well enough, talk to her best friend on the sly.
If you have flowers growing nearby, take her for a walk and hand pick her some of them (while nobody is watching if need be).
Is there an exhibit at a local art gallery or museum that you think she would like to go to?
Is there someone she hasn't seen in a while that you could arrange a visit with? Think friends, grandparents or other relatives.
Take her on a train or car ride out to a village pub for lunch.
Fill her a bath tub full of bubble bath, and set candles and rose petals around the room.

Tropical fish are a bugger to keep properly and require a lot of exensive kit. Its not like you can win one at a coconut shy and stick it in a bowl and call it an aquarium.

Oh she doesn't already have an aquarium set up and have experience? You said "tropical fish" which would imply adding more to an existing environment. If she is a rare bird (few girls keep tanks) and even has a salt water tank, most definitely something like this is a nice setup. But if it's just another whim and she has no exp with fish, then maybe look into getting a betta fish. fresh water betta fish are a good first pet-fish almost as easy to take care of as goldfish (no need for big circulation systems).
At least that'll get you in the door and off for pizza and a movie quick enough. There are like betta fish condos if you want to pick up a few fish (cant mix them), but you can put one in anything like a decorated clear wine jug or whatever. Personally my favorite are semi-salt silver tipped shark in a large turtle tank. I like when they go into shark-mode and start circling hehe, and easy enough to care for. |

What exactly is a tropical fish ? As far as I know most if not all brightly coloured aquarium fish are tropical by origin ? |

Baneken wrote:What exactly is a tropical fish ? As far as I know most if not all brightly coloured aquarium fish are tropical by origin ? Warm water fish, being fresh water, salt water or semi-salt, often originating from the tropics. Common aquarium fish you can google map a half-dozen tropical fish stores in your area most likely. There are some classified as marine fish as well. Sometimes you will see other fish in those shops as well, such as Koi fish (I used to have), which are domesticated carp and mostly kept in ponds. |

I prefer a salt water tank myself, but it's not for people new to keeping fish.
Get her a 10 gallon starter tank kit. (tank, gravel, pump and filter, etc). It needs to be setup and let it settle for a day, THEN go back to the pet store and grab A FEW fish and toss them in. Actually, acclimate them into the tank by floating the bag and adding some tank water to it every 5 minutes. Do this for 20 mins, then send 'em in. In some cases, after acclimating the fish while still in the bag, I would dump the bag water into a bucket, through a net, them immediately put the fish into the tank. Keeps the nasty pet store water out of my home tanks. EVE's only legitimate ISK halving service. I have 500Billion to not give away. It's easy for you to double my money. Just send me some isk, has to be 100Mil or higher, and I will send you back half. I can't lose. One guaranteed winner every round. Do it now. |

Hmm.... 'cuddly' and 'shark'. I'm not sure anyone has ever put those particular two words in the same sentence before. Too much Disney channel playing at your place?

wow i wake up this morning and 19 more replies lol
well i do know the girl very well we've been together for 5 years now and are engaged to be married. she likes to do and see fun things like going diving, or goin on safari or going out for a meal and a movie, . Theres lots of things she likes but i cant do them all and im certianly not feeling rich enough to plan a holiday or even a weekend getaway where she could maybe see some animals or go diving or something.
Besides we've just come back from Kenya where she got to do exactly that. I was just hoping that maybe somebody here had a good idea that was a bit different or something becuase trust me in the 5 years we've been together i've gotten her the things she likes most of the time or i guess we wouldnt have made it this far.
I apologise if i weasnt very clear in the op but sometimes i cba to write a wall of text.
Anyway im thinking the rally car racing would be pretty cool only problem is minimum group size is 6 so ill have to try and get her mates contact numbers and convince them to go at short notice. Its also a bit expensive - maybe not the best of ideas at short notice.
/sigh |

A romantic suggestion:
Some flowers, go somewhere to eat, doesn't have to be fancy, a walk in the park and sit at a bench with a bottle of wine and two glasses, talk and watch the Sun go down.
A fun suggestion:
Some flowers, a walk through the city at night, dance in a club, later find a cozy caf+¬ or bar open till very late, walk again and watch the sun rise.
Without knowing what she likes, its a little difficult to suggest anything. You could always simply ask her. Just don't get drunk.

Why would sum1 not be prepared for a relationship because they didn't know what to get for some1's birthda? Haha what a joke. I guess in ur opinion if someone has to ask advice about relationships then they should not be in one.

"I guess in ur opinion..." So, you are guessing about what I said, as if not quite sure ??
If you don't know what to do for their birthday, you do not know them well enough to be involved.

Tropical fish?, that is pretty ******* specific.
Sounds like a woman who knows what she wants, and will not appreciate you trying to plan her day for her.
Maybe you should buy her some tropical marine fish, much much harder to look after, and as you watch her toiling away for years, monitoring salinity, check pH levels and trying to keep track of the tanks nitrogen cycle, you can think to yourself "You see? This is what you get when can't settle for chocolates and a DVD" |
