My proposed change to tackle would be based on ship size, the larger the pointing ship the longer the point/scram range.-á
Something alon the lines of: small warp disrupter II 16 km point str 1 small warp scrambler II 6 km point str 2
Medium warp disrupter II 24km point str 1 medium warp scrambler II 9km point str 2
large warp disrupter II 40 km point str 2 large warp scrambler II 15 km range point str 3
Probably include stasis webbifiers in this change as well.
Fitting and cap for medium modules is simulair to the current usage. Small's use less cap+fitting while large mods use more. use shield boosters as a compairison.-á
In an ideal world battle cruizers / destroyers could either use oversided tackle or tank while friggates and crjizers need fitting comppromises to fit either oversized tank or over sized tackle.
The reasoning is thati feel that bigger/havier ships should have more holding power then smaller vessels at thd cost of more fitting and cap use. More fitting choices cant be bad :)

so you want to make it even easier to run away in a fast frigate? To catch an interceptor your going to need a high scan res really only able to be obtained by frigates and dessies. Killing the range at which you can scram/disrupt just makes it even harder to catch any fast frigate and nearly impossible to catch an interceptor, and there are plenty of players who are not happy with bubble immune ceptors. making them uncatchable would just make a lot of people unhappy. |

An interceptor is already impossible to catch on a gate as long as your fitting it so that its align time is 1.9 secunds or less due to the way sever tics work. No matter how high the locking ships scan res it. Its a different issue. (That is really annoying yet i have no idea how to adress it.)

The idea of basing the warp disruption mechanics on ship size has been proposed countless times. What you're proposing would bring absolutely nothing to the game except : - Over-complexifying a perfectly fine working mechanic - Nerf the tackling abilities of frigates (which is their primary role) - Boost the tackling abilities of battleships (which is not something they're meant to be good at generally speaking) - Make sure frigates can escape tackling ranges even more easily since the only things able to tackle them consistently will be less good at tackling - Make sure battleships can never ever ever ever get out of tackling range since their counterparts will have super long range 3str points
I don't think it's a good idea. |

so what rebalance are you giving to the t2 ships that get these bonuses? LR tank and tackle, why bring the recons that can get shot up quick? Unlike scorpion most BS' can fit the tackle and not gimp a fit in the process really. Scorpion kind of forces gimping no matter what you do. Go for shield tank and ecm ability goes to crap real quick, unless you want to be refitting (if available) all night long.
Also is it that hard to have a buddy/corpie escort the damn BS? CCP layered the game like this so that smaller ships and lower sp players actually have a role in this game. Otherwise it be BS's online and not eve online (when not caps/supers online anyway).
BS' can't do it all, they need help. In this way the less than 10 mil sp player can have a role in pvp to play in this game. And the 100 mil sp pilot, similar to say level 40 players in other games, are not roll stomping all the the 10 mil (or level 10's to carry the other game analogy further) all night long. In point of fact that level 10 actually gets a fair shot. |

As for the op, the reasons this is redundant have been pointed out. If I was to do anything to scrams & points, it would be to introduce fall off.
Points start at 2str. Optimal of oh.... 2000. So to get the actual 2 strength you have to be inside even small neut & small smart bomb range. Then Fall off of oh, 15k or something. You are now at 50% point strength. Anything between rounds down if it's on it's own, but 2 points out at 9k still end up over 3 strength. Now you can go out to say a maximum range of double fall off. Maybe hard locked? Maybe soft locked. At double fall off, you are at 0.5 strength. A single one will do nothing, but 2 will do something.
Scrams do the same kind of thing, but start at 3, lower range & lower fall off.
This then allows for true hero tackle to solo hold something with stabs by diving in real close and taking the neuts & smart bombs, or coward tackle to engage from long range. It also means one Interceptor kiting a squad would get pointed even if it was out in their double fall off range because the 0.5's would add up. (or 0.25 or whatever number it went to) While kiting a solo it wouldn't.
TLDR version. Make point strength relative to range from target, making it a little harder to hold someone at long range if you are solo, but a little easier if you are in a fleet, and no sudden Yes/No mechanics. |

So, just to ask the obvious question because this clearly hasnt been fully thought through...
What keeps a small ship (frigate) from fitting a large point?
Are you going to put some ridiculous arbitrary size restriction variable on it? IIRC the only things with an arbitrary size restriction on it are rigs, and that isnt a really strong precedent.
Are you going to use PG/CPU to balance them as most other modules do? if so be prepared to rebalance the PG/CPU on every ship in the game ... again ...
Also one of the best things about this game is that small ships are still relevant, they still matter in combat, why would we seek to reduce this effect? |
