Yeah, been following it since it happened. It's less about a rescue attempt now and more about recovering bodies. Captain was first off the ship... |

What a F**king shame...
Few of crew were trying to do everything they could and still couldn't found them, but most of others were rescued FIRST. |

With a few recent incidents of ships wrecking and having their captain abandone their ship to leave others to die makes me wonder if the old saying Captain Goes Down With The Ship ever had any truth But at least my knowledge of North Sea fishing leaves a definate mark to prove otherwise.
EDIT: And some of the accounts of what is being found makes me I actually respect, for reasons I will not go into, the teacher 'vice principle' that commited suiced. EDIT 2: Not that he was looking for respect at all. |

Well the captain is suppose to be conducting the efforts to abandon ship, safeguarding the lives of the passengers as best as possible under the circumstances. First off says uh no. Additional lives were probably lost as a consequence. I don't think it would be expected of him to "go down with the ship", seems more a romantic notion, but first off is most certainly a derelict of duty and he will most likely face severe punishment I would imagine. |

Most definately, my response was a little tounge and cheak and I doubt even a large percentage of Captains wopuld abandon ship with so many on board, but like I said, one person committed suicide becuase they could not deal with all the deaths on his hands...and he had little to no control of the situation.
The first tenant of First Response is to be sure the scene is safe to respond. But the recent incidents I am speaking of are straight up, captian first off ship scenarios...at least that is how the media portrayed them here.
