I own:
JF Neutral Freighter alt that can also fly a JF. He also has a freighter.
I have 2.8B to invest in this project.
In all seriousness, if I have these ships for logistics and the disposable income can I expect to make descent profits? Are reaction POS' worth it if you plan to import all of the material to make the reactions via Jita? Is logistics the hardest part? Any advice would be welcome. |

they do pay ok if ya do a lot of research and have the capital to hold onto product when it does not make profit and change to somthing new every few days to shift with the market.
can end up holding onto a bit of stock between selling tho so be aware |

Usually the most profitable reactions can generate around 600M-1B profit per month (before fuel costs). But you really have to make some spreadsheets and closely watch the market and switch up reactions from time to time depending on prices.
As far as logistics go the average monthly reaction input is probably around ~200,000m3 per month, the average output a bit less, maybe around ~150,000m3 per month. But it really depends what kind of reactions you are doing, these are very rough estimates.
2.8B investment should be fine for most reactions. A few of them might need a bit higher budget (depends how often you intend to haul materials around).
On the other hand, as someone who did reactions in the past I wouldn't recommend setting up a POS just for the reactions simply because of all the logistics hassle (selling/buying, hauling stuff around, keeping the tower fueled, managing the silos, etc...). I mean in theory 1B profit per month seems great right? But it's very hard to generate these numbers consistently - prices fluctuate and it's not always possible to switch up reactions fast enough so you are always working with the most profitable one. A more realistic number that you can achieve is maybe 800M profit per month (and even this might be hard sometimes). And let's not forget the tower fuel costs (up to ~500M per month), JF fuel, etc... All of a sudden you are doing A LOT of work for ~300M profit per month. I don't know about others but I can think of much better ways to earn 300M a month with less work.
But if you have a POS already and you are using it for something else then reactions can be a nice side income. Also if you are in a position where you can safely set up several towers in the same system it can be quite profitable to run reactions on a larger scale - but you would need a bigger investment for that. |

Also consider that your jump freighter will use twice as much fuel in a month after the summer expansion.
And pos's are a pain in the ass. The amount of work you have to do and risk you assume is not worth the couple hundred mil a month. Do yourself a favor and go rat for 2-3 hours, you will spend less time and make more. |

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.
