Was reading that drake recently had a slight nerf and rails were buffed. I'd like to try using a gunship rather than a missile boat for a change. All the info i could search up about ferox fits seemed to be dated.
Wondering if any fits on battleclinic or otherwise are still relevant.
Thanks for any links or info. |

Ferox doesn't really make a good PVE ship. HML Drake is still better for PVE in L3s due to the range and better tank. |

Ferox as an L3 mission runner is perfectly fine. The fits are pretty normal: for myself I tend toward T2 rails with faction antimatter typically and Spike for range, AB, TE2, 2x Mag2, passive shield tank for opponent + Adaptive Invuln... pretty generic. That said, I only use it with a full T2 fit and Caldari BC at either 4 or 5. BC below that and non-T2 fit it's just not worth the trouble. It is my preferred BC these days (including the 'cane and Gnosis), but I really like using cruiser hulls (faction/pirate/T2) these days over bigger ships.
Since the Heavy missile nerf I really don't use missiles anymore. I'm training up a Tengu pilot right now to sell in the Bazaar, but I just don't like using missile boats at all anymore. "Blow it all on Quafe and strippers." --- Sorlac |

Except if you do a mission where you get scrammed or neuted out, then you will most likely lose the Ferox. Drake is better, and a Cerberus rocks L3s. |

I used to do loads of L3s in passive tanked ferox... using rail guns it was **** easy. "What's worse than a foul-mouthed eight-year-old constantly claiming he's had relations with your mother? I'm not saying a Ferox can't do them, I just prefer using weapon systems that don't use cap on my passive fits. |

Something I like to do when I want to feel special: Using one or two utility highs for energy vamps. Thanks to rats having neverending cap, you can make hilarious strong active tank fits cap stable just by letting 1-2 rats alive and leeching off them.

Any ship--- ANY--- ship that's scrammed ain't going anywhere, and the active tank on a Drake will die a lot faster than my passive tank on a Ferox. OP was asking about a Ferox, so I'm offering my experience with Ferox. Not missile boats (which I have a lot with), not HAC (which I don't mission in), but a rail Ferox. Great range with Spike, tough tank, and a full flight of T2 lights for those pesky troublemakers (just like the Drake has).
The same "bad points" you attribute above to the Ferox applies to damn near every ship. In my current fit (no weapon implants, no multiples of any modules excelt 2x Mag2, no falloff rigs) falloff is at 113k... Hows your range on heavies or HAMs with the same type of fit and non-specialized implants?
Edit: I do mission frequently in an Ishtar (HAC), so I misspoke above. Sorry. "Blow it all on Quafe and strippers." --- Sorlac |

Were I to guess, I'd lay a bet that the OP isnt the most skilled (in game terms), experienced hence the Drake replies. At low levels a drake is MUCH harder to lose.
I may be wrong - but if I'm wrong, I wouldnt expect a seasoned player to ask this type of advice. |

Disclaimer: I do not fly the Ferox myself, so use this as a starting point and make personal preference changes as you see fit. Since you're doing L3's, swap any T2 stuff that you can't use for meta 4.

To grind standings on an alt of mine, I've used a Ferox with a resist/buffer tank and an MWD. Also drones, of course. To eliminate pesky scramming frigates.
It was almost as stress-free and relaxing as bombarding stuff from afar with a HML-Drake. Most of the time I didn't even need my drones, since I just sniped every frigate with Iridium before they could get close enough to fly under my guns. Was surprisingly fun. And the MWD prevented warp-outs the few times it got hairy. I just flew away a couple dozen kilometers and started sniping again. |

The Drake is not as it once was. I would use the Drake as soon as I could get in one, but that was years ago.
Then came the buff to the Ferox. Sometimes I'll take a break from running L4s with a Raven or a CNR, and play with the Ferox in some L3s. No problems in any L3s with this Ferox set up:
Rigs: 2xAnti em screen, 1x anti therm screen.
Highs: 7x 250mm rails II (Caldari antimatter/thorium) Tractor Beam
Mids: Pith A-type LSB ( I had it, so I use it.) 2x Invul Fld II, (or mission specific) 1x EM Ward (or mission specific) Tracking Comp II (tracking speed and optimal range script)
Low: 3xMFS II Tracking Enhancer II
Drones: 5x light T2
I have a few implants, and have very good gunnery skills, with this set-up I get 573dps (without drones).

Why not post a loadout you think will work, or have some questions about, and start a discussion that way? Loadouts are role- and skill- dependent, and evolve over time with your changing goals (even when those goals are as simple as moving from a level 3 to a level 4 mission.)
We'd welcome your thoughts, your loadout, and a chance to offer advice over at BC! Killboard, Loadouts, PLEX and EVEMon at BattleClinic |
