I grew up With Elite 1 and 2....
There are Things in EVE i miss, but was in Elite2. There are many Things in EVE that was missed in Elite2. There will be Things in Elite4 that EVE dont have and vice versa. There is Things in X-series that is missed, for my part, in EVE and some Things in EVE that would be great in X-series (its a shame X-rebirth didnt live up to the expectations) For me, i gotta give Elite4 a big spin just for the nostalgy.
But at some point, if EVE dont get their speed up, some other developer will get it right and nail it. So if EVE wants to keep their Reign over the Space sandbox era, they need to counter the New arrivals.
So when will we be able to walk in stations here?? XD |

You can not even play Kilrathi in Star Citizen, so that game is pretty much stillborn. *Snip* Removed trolling part of the post. ISD Ezwal. *Snip* Please refrain from personal attacks. ISD Ezwal. |

The Star Citizen fighter demo looked frustrating. The ships seemed to be hard for the devs to control. And they had to go through animations of your pilot walking up the stairs to the cockpit, sitting down, twirling a helmet around, waiting for the bay door to slide open.... every time they respawned and wanted to rejoin the fight. Not to mention the glitches and that most of the demo was eaten up by technical difficulties. Haven't been blown away by SC yet. |

I know Eve is dying and CCP is ruining everything so I am making an Eve-like game that runs on DirectX 8, has fulfilling PvE, small gang PvP, walking in stations, super duper balance, rules requiring players to scam, walking in spaceships, one-shard sandbox, walking in space, no goons, battles with up to 380,000 people involved, cutting edge graphics, super awesome AAA-title plot and writing, safe hisec, walking on spaceships, first person spaceships, first person shooter, planetary battlefield 5, subscription paid only using in-game currency, and Draeks.
However because I'm making it alone I need some help, so I'm taking donations. Every million dollars unlocks another one of these features. If we unlock all these features and keep going (I know we will ;D), I will promise to add new ships one by one for every million dollars extra. Well, at least neither of these games we are discussing are as bad as Age of Ascent. I found it very cute that they claimed they would have the biggest pvp battle ever, and to this date, they have not released their figure. From what I gathered by asking around, it capped at 1.1k players at once, and most of it was boring and KSODs.
Also, eve is not dying guys, come on. This is as nice as I get. Best quote ever https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4137165#post4137165 |

I dont think I will leave EVE for SC but if I do I wont feel bad... I got almost 11 yrs in playing this game and that seems like a pretty good run.
Before coming to EVE I played Jumpgate for 2 yrs and I still miss that joystick and newtonian flight model over just point double click and then just bounce off of things. Still like probably 2 yrs before SC comes out (they say next yr but games like to promise things early).
So if I leave EVE and shouldn't have been here in the 1st place its more that EVE is starting to get stale and so much different then it was before alliances of thousands.

New games are the way the industry as a whole survives.
CCP's job is to survive the competition.
Sooner or later, that "sink or swim" moment approaches in the life cycle of all companies, the necessity of having the right mix of talent and leadership... so we shall see.
I dare say we shall see, and soon.

Eve is tougher than it looks. It will be very interesting to see how resilient Elite and Star Citizen are to the levels of meta gaming than is taken for granted in Eve.
I think Chris Roberts and David Braben may well get their hearts broken a bit when the games go live. They can seem a bit naive at times. That man is the noblest creature may be inferred from the fact that no other creature has contested his claim. |

Really? So lets look at Star Citzen and eve side by side (note this info might be a bit old and changed)
EVE's economy is player driven, with a few npc orders (bpo's and trade goods) the economy is a capitalist/free market guys wet dream. You make something you set the price. Supply and demand determins if its sold at that price Star Citizen (SC for the rest of this post) Is NPC driven. You control 'nodes' and use these to make stuff for the npcs in the universe. NPC's set the prices
In EvE when a ship blows up the attacker can loot the wreck In SC this is not the case
In EVE you can control a star system, build a station and defend it. As far as I know this is not going to happen in SC
When you die in eve you are recloned to start again, and if you were not careful lost skill points In SC... dieing is, according to CR, a rare event. When your ship blows up the escape pod is towed to a medical facility and your body takes damage, over time you will have a perm death and have to reroll a char, all your assets will go to this 'next of kin'
EvE has a real time xp and skill system SC has no skill system
EvE is a single server SC will be many servers
EvE is real time SC is instanced
In eve, if I undock in jita, I see everyone in jita that's undocked with me in SC if I dunock from earth I will only see who is in my instance, no one else exist for me.
in eve I can pvp anywhere I want, with some consequence. But I can't avoid it. IN SC I can avoid all pvp. According to some pvp in high sec in sc will be near impossible.
in eve I can gank (kill) miners and defencless ships to get there goodies inside In SC... you can't, unless they are set to allow pvp, or SC's chance based system lets you... and there will be nothing to loot
in SC I can fly in planets Eve I can not
in sc I can board and hijack ships... if they are in my instance and have pvp on and I have buddies to help me in eve I can not.
Honestly, neither game are alike. A few parts of SC I might enjoy, some just sound bonkers to me. But that's just me |

The future of eve is looking bright, if done correctly. CCP has refocused all there efforts onto eve. As Hilmar said in the valk keynote they are working on making the eve universe.
CCP could have something awesome coming, I am very excted about it, but we will see. |

Say what he will about eve needing work, it's still stunning to take in when you take the time to ctrl f9 You should read the paper (because it's actually quite good) GÇö it's not aesthetics in the sense of GÇ£looksGÇ¥ but more in the sense of GÇ£invoked emotional responseGÇ¥. Anyway, the point is that SC and E:D compare to EVE in much the same way as StarCraft II or Dead Space or Kerbal Space Program do. I.e. not very much, in spite of the shared space setting.
I like KSP. It isn't meant to be EVE. Hell I play it by abusing physics and mucking around rather than successful flights. |

I don't know about the future of Eve but I will say that it has something that no other game has. Whether it's the graphics or the risk v reward gameplay it's just fantastic. It took me several trial accounts before I really committed to Eve. That is something no other game has. It's challenging but rewarding. I used to play WoW. WoW is fine. But it is a joke compared to Eve. WoW will be long gone before Eve goes anywhere. Not worried. |

But I am playing *the other* space game - with avatars (no, it's not SWTOR - which surely sucks).
Maybe EVE has future - but without me. And that's my opinion even before release of two other MMO sandbox space games. |

Just because there are other space themed games doesn't mean they will be the same as EVE and offer the same experience.
EVE appeals to a certain type of person, just like someone who plays ARMA won't necessarily enjoy Call of Duty, and vice versa, they may both be FPSes, but they don't off the same experience.
