Pilots;
For those Caldari loyalists who've had a Phoenix in dock for the past several years, one of my contacts just verified that a Caldari Navy firmware and hardware update package will be coming down the pipe in the next several months. Expected increases in performance are aimed at improving ordnance launch times and damage selection, likely in coordination with other factors. Sounds like it'll still be speed-tanked by every ship out there, including capitals. Hope that's not the case.

The intercept indicates a warhead upgrade to increase the speed of blast propagation. I suspect engaging small craft will still be an issue, but hopefully the net improvement will make the Pheonix viable on the battlefield.
That said, I'd love it if the Caldari Navy engaged in a development program for a Heavy Cruise Missile Launcher or something of the sort. Priano Trans-Stellar: elegant solutions for the State's needs. |

So the Caldari have finally decided to build a dreadnought. It will still be the worst of the available options but at least now, it will be an option, good for you.

Because it's like having a guardian that can kill a capital ship; it's not the ship for the job. (note the lack of plural nouns in that statement)

Once again showing how little you know.
Capsuleer produced combat boosters in conjunction with the shield firmware upgrade are going to make this the ship to use in capital ship engagements.

Considering the track record you have with the validity of your claims, the three trillion ISK income per month claim as an example, I'm sure you can see why it's hard to take anything you say seriously.
Take some time, run some numbers. You might have to figure out how to stop breathing intermittently so you have enough cognitive capacity to do that, but I'm sure you'll work it out. Maybe. If only we had more people like Launette Vylier. |

That'll be the question, Roseburn. On one hand, its ability to boost shields will be phenomenal. The flip-side is that it certainly won't be able to outdo a Moros in engaging sub-capital craft. So-- it's a question of whether it'll be superior for short-range firefights with other dreadnaughts and carriers, and where the break-even is on having local repair capacity vs. triage support.
Further, there's always lag on adoption of doctrines. It will be months or years before we see this all play out, not unlike how Naglfars are now well-regarded due to their utility against certain fleet compositions after, what, years of Moros dominance? You'll note how I said capital engagements Priano. Even with the assistance of drug based neural enhancers there's only so far that you can bend the designed purpose of a weapon system before it stops being effective.
I can still see the Naglfar being used in numbers due to their versatility, and the Moros for the sheer destructive power. Where the Revelation fits into the mix is unclear at this stage as this firmware upgrade certainly doesn't make it a very appealing workhorse. If only we had more people like Launette Vylier. |

You keep throwing a number you made up in my face expecting it to create an effect, it will not. You talk about my cognitive capacity while clinging desperately to a one-trick ad-homiem attack based on something you said. Someday I hope you work that out so we can move on to perhaps a newer ad-hominem that is potentially relevant.
And if you want an in-depth analysis you would be better off waiting until the changes are implemented. While a 4% per level shield resistance bonus and non-dependent damage types will give it appeal in fleets it is still going to overshadowed by the sheer versatility and application of the Naglfar and the DPS of the Moros. With a nod to some notable exceptions of disposable shield dreads in armor fleets the vast majority of fleets will be armor still. Momentum is moving toward shield fleets but I believe that is still a year or more off.
Jibing and prejudices aside I expect that they will certainly become more populous than they are now, perhaps more so than the Revelation.
As for the rest, as I said before, feel free to hold your breath on the numbers but I will not. They have made it viable, they have far from made it dominant. -áFear The Tribes |

My political affiliations are not relevant to this thread but will say I have nothing but admiration for the State. I served her for two tours of duty in the StPro. When I was in, I executed my duties well and received a commendation for it. I was once called Kirjuun. It was a business agreement of mutual benefit and I retain higher standing to the State than even to the Republic.
Ask those who I served with how I executed my duties. Even Diana Kim flew on my fleets.
This is not mocking, it is tough love.
Listen to me talk about the Jaguar sometime, you will see it is just like I speak of the Phoenix. I want no ship to fall behind and am disappointed with the magnitude of changes. If anything, this may have just set wheels in motion to advance the Revelation. Capsuleer petitions to the Empire and Concord have already started in several data exchange locations.
I wish it was more. And this is why I bemoan it. Do not let my tone I take with a Rose like Sofia confuse my intentions.
Everyone knows the State's capital fleet has been hurting lately, What all was stolen and why this sudden advancement on a project that the State had mothballed ages ago.
I am of course just speculating baselessly like everyone else is. We still do not have the math after all, just our own judgement.
Odd that so often my opinion is contentious. Either way, I did not intend to offend you. -áFear The Tribes |

No. In fact it is what is holding me back most, my tone-through-text and speaking perhaps too plainly or not plainly enough.
Ironic is it that I also, nearly three months ago I nearly invested into buying many Phoenix hulls? Missed opportunity now. Revelations as well if the Capsuleer petition succeeds. -áFear The Tribes |

I was being sarcastic. In an attempt to make citadel missiles not be speed tanked by a capital ship they have ensured they can now sig tank them in Triage or Siege.
There is some outcry at the navy to come up with a solution but so far, they seem to be ignoring it. -áFear The Tribes |

The State, really any of the empires, did not get to where they are by making poor decisions. While they have by a increment, made the Phoenix better for applying damage to enemy capital ships they have improved the tank and utility tenfold. Couple that with the new software the Navy announced (conveniently at the same time) which will give all ships improved damage application to starbase structures and you have what seems to be a reinforcement and improvement in its already intended role: laying waste to structures.
While many capsuleers, including myself, may not see this as the best direction obviously the Navy does.
They now have a collection of the most powerfully defended capital ships which excel at demolishing infrastructure. As to why that is I will leave to Caldari but I suspect that there are more than a few Diana Kim minded people developing the Navy's fleets.
To me, they seem to be preparing to take territory under fire.

God, no. One of them is enough.
As for a major offensive from the Caldari, I'm not sure that's in their best intrest at the moment. The lack of money is the root of all evil. |
