I still remember three years ago when the first news of a Free To Play 1st person shooter trickled out onto the internet. I downloaded the trailer from the Playstation Store and looked in awe at the GÇÿconceptGÇÖ game play. What blew my mind thou was each suit, tank, turret, aircraft, and ship was given values, which at the time for me hinted at something more. I didnGÇÖt know anything about Dust514, I had heard of the Eve universe, mainly from various amazing fan based productions on you tube.
So I looked into it a bit more, and started picking up on the lore or New Eden, and something inside me was switched on, this rich and amazing universe had been here for seven years and I knew nothing about it. This probably was because due to my life circumstances at the time I had not really been PC gaming for quite a few years. My old computer had long since died (A windows GÇÖ95 90mhz PC to give you an idea of how long ago that was) and with my moving about consoles has become my life starting with my PS2.
Then, I picked up on the news I had been waiting for, MorduGÇÖs Trials had begun and I feverishly found the instructions required to get the closed beta key from the Playstation Home environment. I followed the clues, talked to all the people I needed to in the E3 exhibition, unlocked the secret Dust area and completed the strategy game and was rewarded with my code. The closed Beta Access was mine, and I was one of the first people outside of CCP and the Alpha testers to get in and start playing. Cameron StarGazer was born.
Match after match after match, I experimented with the fittings, I toyed with the skill tree, and I was hooked. Worse of all, my desire to experience the universe of New Eden was driven more and more to the point of madness. Countless matches and 9,000,000 SP on Cameron StarGazer later the first of a number of resets news came that finally broke me. More information on the links that will happen between Dust and Eve were released in the form of Orbital Bombardments. My mind exploded and a vision in my head of what was to be and how Cameron would fit into this universe were suddenly crystal clear. I needed to get into Eve Online and get ready for the day that I could support Cameron with my space faring Eve character.
So thatGÇÖs what I did, I was worried that my 2008 iMac couldnGÇÖt handle Eve as it didnGÇÖt have the memory, but I through all caution to the wind, and installed it.
Thos first few months were glorious GÇô Cameron spent all his time shooting people in the face while tweak after tweak after tweak came out while my Eve character Tiberius mined for the day he could produce weapons of destruction for my Dust Character.
But something happened, Eve started taking over, the little tweaks that came out in Dust 514 didnGÇÖt keep me interested, the same old Ambush, Skirmish matches were getting dull and uninteresting and Eve started to become my main focus, and for 20 months Eve has been just that. My PS3 has sat there languishing.
Then Eve Fanfest 2013 came, and plugged into the HD feed and watched the Dust Keynote, oh the joys of Racial suits and new weapons and new toys. I picked up and started playing Dust again was when the racial suits were released, I trained my character into Amarr and got some eve buddies involved, created a corp in line with my Eve alliance, me and my 8 buddies played daily 2/3 games and I finally mastered logi suits and was helping my friends win games as I supported them as the long term Dust Veteran. Dust was fun again. It was made even better I could finally use my Eve Collectors Edition Codes and I was using my Templar drop suits feeling like a member of the merc elite. But slowly and surely I fell back into Eve and my friends and I were playing Dust less and less. The same old problem came about, Tiberius still couldnGÇÖt support Cameron or my corp, it was impossible to find orbital bombardments, and the excitement of the 2013 keynotes finally started to wane.
My interest fell again and the PS3 started collecting, no pun intended, Dust.
My new PS4 arrived and I looked at the gaming press, listened to podcasts with interviews with the developers and my heart sank when they said there would be no PS4 support, but no to be deterred I kept my PS3 and waited for the next Fanfest for the next developments to once again bring my interest back to Dust 514.
So Fanfest 2014 was soon on the horizon, twitter and the forums were buzzing with predictions and excitement, will dust finally play a role in Sovereignty? Will planetary conquest be expanded? Will the two economies start being linked? Will MTACGÇÖs and Fighters make an appearance? The possibilities of all the things I have been waiting for the last 2 years were all at the front of my mind. What will be announced this year that will bring Cameron out of retirement?
Today (Friday the 2nd of May) while at work, I quietly put a headphone in my ear and started twitch up on my mobile phone, fully aware it would probably kill my data usage that I had been so careful to preserve the weeks running up to today to make sure I could watch it. The moment came and I kept and eye and ear on my phone while I worked. If the Valkarie presentation was anything to go by, I could expect the usual introductions, what has been happening, where they are today, and then the big reveal.
The presentation started and I waited with baited breath, I kept my phone slightly off its hook so not to be disturbed and it all started, the usual intro came and went, a fun video was shown with the SquadB guys getting up to their usual shenanigans, the first set of key objectives raised my expectations and I waited. Then it went into the first big announcement GÇô Dust was coming to PC. I raised a slightly unsurprised eyebrow, given they were not porting to PS4 and a PC version being is such high demand, a PC release wasnGÇÖt too much of a shock. Some footage was shown, which I must admit I didnGÇÖt see t |

Then it went into the first big announcement GÇô Dust was coming to PC. I raised a slightly unsurprised eyebrow, given they were not porting to PS4 and a PC version being is such high demand, a PC release wasnGÇÖt too much of a shock. Some footage was shown, which I must admit I didnGÇÖt see too much of due to the cellular streaming quality, but the extra graphical fidelity was very clear. But the PC release wasnGÇÖt the news I was after, but more along the lines of what am I going to have new to shoot people with, and will I be able to shoot people in new and interesting ways?
There were some hints for new planets, and new game modes, but nothing solid, but then again I understand in the typical CCP manner they wont tell us anything 100% for definite until they are ready to show it, but we do usually get a steer on what they are working on, such as the excellent Valkarie presentation where we were told about ship mechanics and types, shown some brilliant artwork and weapons, so the anticipation was palpable for me. What will they show us next? A new way of finding matches for orbital bombardment? Will there be any major game play tweaks? Will there be new game modes?
Then it ended.
I tried not to stare at my phone to intently in case any of my co-workers noticed, but I couldnGÇÖt help it, I stared at the screen and blinked for what seemed like a few good moments as the stream went back to the presenters in the main hall. My expectations crumbled and a voice in my head was screaming
GÇÿIs that IT?!GÇÖ
Where is the long term development vision? Where are the hints as to what they are working on in game? What things are going to get me excited to play tonight GÇô not in good knows how long.
Now, donGÇÖt get me wrong, its great news that the PC version is coming Soontm but to have no news on this years development plan for additional content was so crushingly disappointing I went back to work in the sure knowledge that Cameron will stay in retirement possibly for a while to come yet.
Lets hope they will at least allow me to transfer Cameron to the PC version. |

Considering my final sentence was that I hope I can transfer my character would seem to indicate my intentions are otherwise.
The follow up presentation indicates that DUST514 is dead. There is zero new content, planned, it appears that Legion isn't even a 100% confirmed product. |

By inference, your assuming I never put any actual money into Dust, in which case, you would be incorrect, Cameron had 30 day boosters plugged in permanently. So by your argument as a paying consumer I was showing faith in the product. |

As a small part of the community I did not get what I would have liked from CCP since late 2008, my resources are even more limited then CCP's so be a better Costumer if CCP can not be a better Company for you, Vote Eve rule no.1: The players will make a better version of the game, then CCP initially plans.

In the end, they are doing more than any other company has ever tried or went for to accomplish ever. All these things are hard long processes with learning from them in the process. Yes there were and will be a bit of endings and starts, that means making the final visions of everything to be much better and meaningful, of what we really wanted it to be, of what we dreamt of. ps3 was a dying platform by the start of the early beta, too many limitations, no freedom. The investment went for the dust development as a whole anyway, and we knew from start it would not be anywhere close on a console to what we dreamed of, on pc literally anything can be done. Even ps4 would eventually bring limitations and complications. No investment went in vain, everything was done for a better and much bigger future of dust. |

Dust 514 should be a PC game, a sandbox mmo-rpg game, with huge metagame, scamming, ganking, industry, economy and all of this should be 100% connected with EvE Online. The FPS part of Dust is actually the less important part of the game, it could even be just a mod of the 1994 Doom 2 FPS for all i care.
I hope CCP learn their lesson, console sucks, they are very limited and intended for a different type of player (young, instant gratification playerbase that doesn't want commit to a single game), that's not compatible with the EvE Online player base. The Tears Must Flow |

Above is however a fact and PS3 will be replaced by PS4 and eventually leaving dust on a dead console.
It's only sensible business to start developing a new version of dust sooner rather then later and hey at least CCP told you in advance unlike some other companies that would had told you the week before (legion) launch that your game is going bye bye while milking every penny from you in the mean while. Development is still being continued on DUST, what we don't know is how much effort will be put to DUST once legion is released but I'm quite confident that DUST will remain as long as there are people playing it.

I agree with all comments, and as said in my post it wasn't much of a surprise given they announced a while ago no PS4 port so it had to go somewhere.
The main crux of my post was that the only announcement was the fact it's going to PC, no further development news, no further updates, nothing. That was what was most disappointing. |

From what I gained from that tech demo was that as much as possible game play improvements from legion will be ported to dust but considering it's PS3 were talking about not much can be done. So main changes will be to planetary conquest mechanics, markets and such but over all game play for dust will likely be unaffected. |

I weep for the fallen.
CPM should make the only valid move now: resign. Also anyone who is disgruntled should leave and never return (no, not even for the dailies!).
I am seriously baffled by the fact that CCP did not manage to grab some decent programmers for PS3, let alone PS4. Their decision to go PS3 was strange to say the least, but now to go for a PC version is just moronic.
CCP is this your idea of "iterate on it later" (sic)? If so I do not see brightly when SC and ED comes out for the markets!
If this is really their idea of iteration then I fear we will see another "code-write off" in about a year or two (no more). I don't belive in reincarnation I've never believed in it in my previous lives either... |

ROFL! Got to love the PC Only Twinklebrains !
Name one FPS that has been successful on the PC only? And I am not talking about Halo's etc that are present on consoles too!
Go on... Imma wait for an answer!
I have $2000 gaming rig that I play Eve and I would never ever play a FPS on a PC. Why? Because all you FPS wannabes that want FPS games on PCs want it for the sole reason that y'all lack any FPS skill whatsoever and rely on your aimbots or hackbots to score a kill.
Also you know why consoles are way better than PCs when it comes to FPS gaming?;- It's because only on consoles can your GF(or BF depending on your sexual preference)/Wife/Fiance can suck on your pecker while you shoot someone in the face!
Now try doing that on a PC! |

My dust toon(s) are all fairly silent at the moment, I log on occasionally in order to replace boosters for passive training and hope that each time the screwups, pub stomps and knee jerk game balances will have been rectified somewhat, so far, I remain disappointed in a game that I thoroughly loved at one point.
I play EvE with my son and I have a few accounts, I played Dust with my son too, and even he (who is a much better Dust player than I am) has greatly reduced his Dust game-play. The fact that there was not much in the form of current game-play info is not surprising to those of us who have lived in New Eden for many years now, it is however disappointing to many folks.
