So why is it after I started running missions again, like 5 years later, every story-line mission I've received has been a hauling one... For combat agents... |

I mostly get hauling storylines too, unsure why though.
I'm actually glad I get them because they're quick and easy. Especially those "Materials for War" missions where I can just buy some kernite in the destination station, zip over there in my interceptor, then complete it. |

The ones I get get me to haul 40k 4 jumps, which would be fine if I had a Bestower with one tech II cargo rig and otherwise maxed out cargo capacity.
I'm just bothered that I used to get combat missions with great rewards but now it's like 5 mil for doing 36 jumps in a hauler. (8 jumps there and back, 4 times due to 10k cargo on my mission loot hauler) |

Use the Gallente Miasmos, it has a dedicated ore hold with a base capacity of 42,000m3 and a 10% bonus to capacity per ship skill level thanks to the Industrial ship rebalance. |

Thing is it's usually a unique mission item. I'm probably just gonna pay for the tech II cargo rig but I really wish I didn't have to. |

If you are constantly getting the storyline requiring hauling 40k m3 be happy - it pays well compared to the other courier storylines and the standing award is comprable to the combat storylines for a lot less risk.
Stoylines are random - there is basically a pool of missions and you will get one from the pool, irrespective of the type of mission you have been running to get the storyline or the division of the agent offering the storyline.
The pool of missions was expanded a few years back, primarily by the addition of a lot more courier storylines that required moving 8000 m3 but also some new combat ones - prior to that you use to see materials for war an awful lot because that was effectively in the pool 5 times - once for each imply you got. |

What about for storylines asking to haul a lot of something that isn't ore? Is there another relatively cheap industrial ship that could do both, because i'm seeing only 500m3 regular cargo on the miasmos |

I dunno having to make at minimum 8 jumps in a hauler (assuming it all fits in one load) is kind of silly for only 5 mil. One lv4 mission gives me like 20-60 mil and takes me about 15-25 minutes to complete and salvage. The lv4 storylines I've gotten that involve combat have usually given me 50 mil before salvage in bounty, just because they usually give some expensive implant. I wish there was no chance to get hauling in security .

best storylines are those in which they ask 1665 scordite and give you +3 implant as reward :P "What's worse than a foul-mouthed eight-year-old constantly claiming he's had relations with your mother?
