I'm creating a second account purely for combat (and maybe some hauling on the side). Which race should he be? I'm leaning towards gallente...what do you think? This will be pvp combat.

You should mention what ship class you want to focus on, since all races have good pvp ships but in different classes.

Well lets look at upside/downside (this is all my opinion through what ive gathered from playing over a year now)
Minmatar: Low Cap use, can tank shields or armor, okay damage, takes a while to train up to start actually feeling good.
Gallente: (all info from a friend) Problems with fittings, run out of cap frequently in some ships, can tank nicely if dedicated, High damage output potential at both long and short range.
Caldari: Wonderfully strong shield tanks, not a whole lot of solo pvp ships (but with the right missiles can dish a ton of damage). Slow ships. Good race to play if you want to be an all rounder.
Amarr: (all from a friend) Depends on cap as a lifeline, despite the high recharge rate bonus/low cap use on weapons bonus, you still can run out fast. High damage potential at Long or Mid range, speculation on short range. Doesnt use ammo but often has to change crystals in combat to adjust for range. High tanking abilities. Slow ships.
Hope that helps you pick.

Mini all the way. Good stats, plethora of combat ships and the Mammoth = exactly what you're looking for.

Not sure, I suppose battleship would be what I would work up initially. Having the skills to successfully pilot one in combat (esp. when starting from scratch) would take me awhile. This account will be for pirating too so I will probably be using each ship class as I get them and the appropriate skills to use them properly. I might be in a frigate for awhile in the beginning to gain experience.
I think I made that more confusing.

Is there any problems for the gallente in using drones? Does the current "drones do not scoop" problem really hinder anyone?
I looked at the min's combat ships and the mammoth. All look very nice.

I started caldari to get the Raven and chuck some missiles at the npc bots for loyalty. But these days i find myself in minmatar ships most of the time. They have this rebel look about them. Some people dont like it, some do. --- The Eve Wiki Project |

Unless you're into some sort of role playing and are strictly looking for the powergamer option, go for Achura. CCP has a knack for making the Caldari races the best PvP choice and only managed to underline that tendency with blood patch.
Just note that you don't have to train Caldari ships just because you chose a Caldari char. New sig coming soonÖ Drone musing (MC-boards) |

Well my first character is a miner who I've been trying to make a combat man as well...but it's not working. There's just too many skills and too little time to split them up on one person. I figure I can make enough isk mining to pay for another account - shouldn't be too terribly difficult, so I want to start from scratch and train only combat skills so he can be the best possible fighter pilot.
I'm definately not into roleplaying (if I understand you correctly), I just want to be able to kick anybody's behind who I happen to run across .

if you are patient enough to skill your char for 2years+ before you feel mildly satisified with its potential then go minmatar
if thats not the case then i would recommend caldari or gallente, depending how the tier 3 BS pans out for those 2 races
if caldari gets a decent sniper BS (yeah like they'd get something bad >_>) there isnt really a reason (apart from personal preferences) to choose any other race than caldari

Edited by: Cassius Brutus on 23/05/2006 01:54:44 I want pure war combat skills (in less than 2 years). I can take a few months to be extremely lethal, but 2 years is kind of pushing it.
New question then. Which race has the best learning skills / attributes / combat skills at start up? Since any race can train for any ship, I suppose the actual character creation is really the key, isn't it? I'd like a character who can learn quickly and efficiently (high attributes).

come up with 2B ISK and buy for ISK a 20m skill point character for sale on the forums (CCP takes care of the transaction) its perfectly legal ingame as u are paying ISK for a character. U can then slot it into one of youre alt slots or a 2nd account with minimal skill training time.
Its a good alternative

QFT? - Sorry, what does it mean?
That does sound like a good alternative, but a little pricey. You believe I could get one cheaper?

you could buy a PvP character, but it would lack the fun of building them up from scratch - idk, personally that would kill the fun of it for me
Achura or Khanid imo would be good choices for combat, not to mention cool due to their newness

Its entirely untrue.
But with learning skills, its is definately doable.
For a pure PvP player, Perception and Willpower are your friend. Just check out the differnet races, and how much Perception and Willpower you can get out of them. For Gallente (drones) you will need Memory. But for turret/missile/spaceship command, Perception and Willpower is where its at, since all these skills are based off those attributes. ---------
