With the Fanfest announcement of the Prospect, the (awesome) trailer that was released, and CCP Fozzie's dev-blog about the Prospect mentioning that it was being designed for "..known space, wormhole space and beyond", what if the gate that was shown in the trailer was one-way?
What if this meant people, corps or alliances who wanted/managed to build/enter (details are still unknown at this time, of course) this gate had to mean people, much like venturing into WH, had to pack things ready and set-off on a (initially?) one-way ticket?
To me, this would really bring that "new frontier" feeling that Apocrypha delivered and I have a feeling, even hope, that these Expedition Frigates will be the first ones through.
Thoughts?
Or are mine just rambling non-sense of a wish-full thinker? If a fish weighs 1 Kilogram plus half its own weight, how much does it weigh? (It's not 1.5kg btw) |

Or are mine just rambling non-sense of a wish-full thinker? Only thing I can think of, is that a JUMP gate (what im assuming the trailer had) woudl allow a fleet to jump to a system it's aimed at without having to already have a gate on the other end, and building a new gate there with a specialized industrial ship (new rorqual role?), avoiding the ~80-500+ year voyage it supposedly takes the empire's ships to go system to system without gates in the hopes of expanding the network.
And if thats the case, either the storm is the capsuleers taking even their stars under their power, etc etc Amarr Victor, or we found the reapers, or better yet, we created a gate to the Terran remnants and the Ori come through in a Holy Crusade that would make the Amarr brown their robes. |

The "beyond" thing sure does leave a lot to the imagination doesn't it?
Makes you wonder if the stargates players will be able to produce won't just essentially be a new type of acceleration gate that takes them to an entire solar system that is fundamentally speaking a deadspace pocket that can only be entered by that gate.
My idea of a one way trip would be someone else destroying the gate behind the travelers if this scenario were the case. |

honestly I think it would be awesome if they were only able to go one way, and only allowed to bring frigate sized ships so that they would have to build up the system they were in before being able to start building stargates. A way imo to limit how fast the extremely large alliances can spread allowing smaller ones to have time to populate some of these new systems. Oh yeah and since it would be 1 way it would mean podding has a higher consequence then just getting new implants. |

The one way gate could be similar to the Eve Gate that closed up thousands of years ago trapping explorers in this region of a larger galaxy.
Maybe we will encounter the first humanoid non-human known to humanity or maybe something even worse, a mirror reality where New Eden comes across itself when it first came through the Eve Gate.
....maybe even a gate back to Earth. |

IIRC the lore is that is how the stargates were initially built. They would build a stargate to some distant star then send a ship through it with the resources to build the return gate. |

Nope, the gates were built by automated ships that would slowly travel for hundreds of years to the different star systems via warp drive. Traditional gates only function in pairs. |

Traditional gates only function in pairs. which is why i mentioned, with this new gate looking so different, maybe it IS a JUMP gate, rather than just a point-to-point warp gate. |
