The thought has crossed my mind about for example having a ship that requires few capsuleers or dust soldiers to operate and that has guns of its own that need to be manually aimed and fired?
Dumb or not? |

Very cool, but I suspect there would be problems with doing that in Eve. Manually fired weapons would operate completely differently from the current auto aimed and calculated model. Not sure how feasible it would be. But man I would love it if they could. Tengu Grib > I agree. The distinct lack of quality spaceships makes RL the worst space sim ever. Just imagine how infuriatingly difficult it would be to try to operate a weapon that can only receive one control input a second.
Also the EvE source code gets upset when you try to put more than one player in a ship at a time.
Basically your idea doesn't actually fill a role that's missing it's just something that "sounds cool". -1 |

Not sure how feasible it would be. But man I would love it if they could. besides the technical difficulties involved with having manual anything under 1-server ticks, having more than 1 capsuleer in a xingle ship, to be balanced, would have to be way out of balance, being way overpowered to compensate for its requirement of multiple players, elsewise youd be better off just having multiple ships. Beyond that, the server craps its pants anytime you try to have more than one person in the same ship, due to the ship and contents being "owned" by the pilot, which as i understand it is a top-level ownership/relation, and having a top-level over a top level, is well....
Imagine trying to store a folder inside itself on a computer, it would be a logic loop that would make any computer **** itself. |

I understand, it was just an idea, maybe I thought wrong but won't the new valkyrie be implemented into eve universe like dust has been? If so how will they work with the 1-server tick? The thing is that rarely you have a weapon that fires under a 1 sec cycle, it would just mean that you need to aim carefully before firing in order to hit the target. It is bit different than what we are normally used to from other space shooters but I think people would adjust with not much problems. |

It is bit different than what we are normally used to from other space shooters but I think people would adjust with not much problems. its the fact that its impossible to calculate manual aiming under a 1 second tick.
how it works now is by simple math, but with a manual aiming style, the game now ahs to calculate both players positions, where they are aiming, what the position of them and their target is relative to everything else to ensure they have a line of sight.
even getting aroudn the initial difficulties to implement in a way thats not horribly awkward, you would still then be increasing the server load by a hundred, if not a thousand fold, due to all the calculations. not to mention the incompatibility of the 2 separate combat modes trying to be on the same battlefield.
Even if valkyrie was implemented "like DUST" its not actually IN EVE, its stored on the same server, and affects the same fights technically, but you could never have a DUST soldier floating next to a titan in a spacesuit, because the engines and games are still separate. Valkyrie, if integrated at all, would be the same way, an instanced fight in Valkyrie would effect a couple % numbers on a system here or there, but would never be up and amongst the EVE ships.
Dont get me wrong, itd be sweet if we could use some Nintendo Powergloves with the Oculus to get the 3D visuals from the EVE Origins trailer for the capsuleer, and had Valk/DUST players everywhere around too, but the technical hurdles to do that are not just difficult in software, but the hardware that would be needed to support a server of that magnitude doesnt exist yet. (Ever seen the Matrix or read the .hack// novels or Ghost in the Shell novels? were tlaking computer tech near those levels to support a game like that) |
