Ok.
So I played a LOT of eve way back when.... ye olden days before the graphics update and tech 2 was new. When the Megathron came out... you know, the stone ages.
Just came back after more than 4 years absence....
I have NO clue what I'm doing. Going to fire up the tutorial and then maybe join EVE Uni.
The question is: what then? How do I pick up? |

What are you interested in? PVE? Industry? Exploration? PVP? Murdering unsuspecting corp mates? Ganking unsuspecting industrialists? Running from people trying to catch you while you do null sec pve? Wormholes? Faction Warfare?

Eve Uni has a ceiling on allowable character skill points, I think, that may not be a viable plan.
Red vs. Blue is ostensibly a thing designed just to have a permanent faction war for organized pvp, but they're also de facto sort of a training corporation for people to learn basic mechanics and strategies. You might try looking up the various corps involved in that if you can't get into the true newbie corps. |

RvB will give you an active testing ground for how the smaller subcaps now function, which is good because most of them are a lot different than they were four years ago. Generally speaking, the tier system is done with and a new role-based system replaced it.
A lot of industry changes are in the works for the near future, so if you're getting into that you should read up on some of the recent devblogs. -á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á-á "LIVE FAST DIE." - traditional Minmatar ethos [citation needed] |

Play the tutorials now. They are much better than they were in the stone ages of "Welcome to Eve someone is shooting at you, have a nice day."
They are worth doing especially if you are so rusty that basic ship skills are forgotten, but they are also worth doing for the free stuff you get along the way. Each industry is represented.
Eve uni has a cap on character life. It is a bummer since I wanted to get in because they have such a good reputation for newbie friendliness and that is something I like to do whatever game I'm playing. I just want to get a plex as fast as i can so i dont have to worry about resubbing, 15 dollars is Cat litter and Food for my cat, or 2 Grams of Weed, i'd rather spend it on that then on this game--Rogue Mime |

Ok Thanks guys. I have 50m SP, so EVE uni is no go I would imagine.
In this order:
1Tutorial 2Gather some ISK 3Join RvB
BoB Alliance used to be around when I played and the Goons were new. I gather the latter is still around defacing monuments and all ;-)
I'm thinking of carving out a living in lowsec. Exploration, ratting, mining. Especially exploration seems really cool to me, never used to do that kind of stuff back in the day. Maybe some pirate hunting. You know, setting up shop somewhere and keeping the raiders at bay for carebears and such.
How is the lag these days? Fleet battles still looking at an Eve slideshow? |

Welcome back. It's worth doing the tutorials to get re-acquainted with the game.
Re. lag. CCP have worked hard to improve things. There is now TiDi (time dilation : roughly, slows things down so the server can better process events). It's like hitting a moving target though, when CCP make an improvement, people just bring more bodies. Overall it's improved and they still have other ideas that they are wrking on. |

Explorations a good bet, for a little while. I'd skip mining unless you're particularly interested in that lifestyle. RvB will give you some action, but if you're returning and feel new, what you really need is fellowship. I think you're better off joining a corp who invests in their recruits, and cares who they are. Find a crew that will help you figure things out. So I think you ought to skip out on RvB for now. Instead, decide what sort of people you're interested in being around, and aim for a group that fits the bill. Whether they're in high-, low-, or null-sec, you'll probably enjoy the game more that way, regardless of what the corp focuses on.
That being said, null-sec is where it's at. ;)
