Guys, there is already a perfect counter to the AFK Cloaker problem....
Just put another AFK Cloaker in the same system, and they cancel each other out....
It's like... Positive and negative electrons.... Or something.... |

Either we add a cloaking control or we dont and the current issue is that we have no good arguments either way Thus there is no reason to change

But first you've got to get them to come into contact with each other. Being two forces that are mutually repellant they would, under normal circumstances, just drift aimlessly through space at a safe distance from each other, leading to a perpetual status quo until outside forces intervene, such as:
A: something that attracts one AFK Cloaker pulls it within a dangerous proximity of the other AFK Cloaker.
B: Something with an even stronger repelling force pushes one AFK cloaker within dangerous proximity of the other AFK Cloaker.
C: Some other scenario, I don't care this thread is supposed to be locked. |

Trisha Landers wrote:Instead of stopping people from sitting in a system cloaked, would it be beneficial to change how cloaked characters are displayed in local? And here's the wonderful flip side of this inane discussion. No, you as the cloaked ship get to bear the risk of being in Local. Now deal with the consequences of being in a system just like everyone else has to.
If you prefer being invisible in Local then it comes with the risk that everybody else has that advantage too (wormholes).
Edit: Anyone who feels like complaining about afk cloaking go read the linked post below. It is the best post on this forum about what tools you are given in EVE to deal with it. It hasn't been stressed enough: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=3750695#post3750695 Take solace knowing that even after the sun sets, and your sky is filled with darkness, that the sun is still shining. -D. If AFK cloaky cannot hurt you, it is true that you do not know if they are AFK.
If you are cautious you will have to move away.
It is the only effective counter measure against a cloaker. AFK or not...
Well If the AFK cloakers are 5 and camp nearly all the constellation it is not very funny.
There was a time when I wanted CCP do something for that. But well i am a Goon I have plenty of systems to farm.... This is our counter measure . |

'that decloaks cloakers after some long period'
- Sure. I think we'd be happy even with something that turns them into a cosmic signature, that you could probe down, and warp to, to decloak them.

If you aren't prepared (eager, even!) to deal with anything that you can reasonably expect to pop out of that covert cyno (that may or may not go up, btw), you should go back to highsec.
To be clear, 'deal with' = fight or evade or lose a relatively inexpensive ship. You know, EVE basics. |

Hasikan Miallok wrote:Shurgin Ambraelle wrote:All very good points (no pun) so here is my take. What about a sonar ping like technology on a prober. You have to have mad skills for it and it can only be used once in a certain like (ie doomsday, ECM burst) and when you ping them it renders their cloak O.O.S. for a certain duration and/or damaged that can be repaired by Nanopaste. Then you probe out the cloaker and if he/she is afk... pop. It prevents the cloaky camper from just sitting around. Or make the module to ping them come from a POS.
Just an idea. Anchoring 5 and Scanning 5 needed? Go ahead let me have it. Just switching it off would b eenough. However seeming as the only argument against AFK cloaking is it makes renters nervous ... I see no real reason to change it at all.
I agree switching it off is probably enough. Make the module on a POS that has to be anchored. -The Gene Pool Could Use a Little Chlorine!! Proud Member of the Flying Dead/Bloodline

Major Lunartik wrote:CCP need to put a timer on cloaky campers, and once timer runs out, some sort of sovereignty device can decloak and even web and scram them so sov renters/owners can pop their unsporting ass. I thought of this as we have a cloaky in our system, and knowing how CCP pride themselves on how Eve has no real game rules, and 'Hot-droppers' will suffer if any other method was implemented, so a timer on some sort of modual/sov-modual with a set timer of say, 3hrs?, (allows hot-drops, makes it interesting), and after the timer is triggered, the offender cant log off let alone do anything else, so SOV owners/renters can blow up offender and pod for good measure.
Take this a step further and put a modual on gates so once a camper has been 'busted' the gate wont allow them in or at least penalize the known camper by killing the cloaking device!.
Currently there seems to be no cure for the cloaky campers, and pilots go play other games while being camped, CCP this does mean your subscribers may find a different game to enjoy and discontinue with Eveonline.
Ditch the rules, create counter measures.

I sometimes cloaky camp the sov holders in geminate and they respond by staying docked, logging out or moving elsewhere. Recently one of the had the brainwave of cloaky camping our npc null system. We responded by ignoring him completely and running sigs, PI, anoms etc entirely as normal. The moral here is that it isn't an afk player that is the problem but the reaction from people that want the rewards of null with non of the risks. The CCP in house band wrote a song just for you personally OP. HTFU. Much love. PS do you rent in vale of the silent by any chance? If so which system is this devious man who can stop you playing while he is asleep/ at work etc? Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85 |

Cloaky camping is doing (pro)gods work. Maybe if I wasn't so busy I would start going downtime to downtime again. Ive been cloaky camped and I've cloaky camped others, and you have to get over it. If I could get over a 1 month long zero fun allowed camp so can you. |
