I've googled it but I get mixed responses. I understand that you cannot scan planets outside your range without settlements, and that the scan quality decreases with range.
My question is, does Remote Sensing at all affect scans on planets you have a command center on? Or are my scans from 50 ly away as good as if I were in system, provided I have a command center?

You can scan planets outside your Remote Sensing range if you have an command center on it. I once managed some k-space planets from inside a wormhole, so I know. |

Thanks. Will those scans be as accurate as scans performed in-system? |

In a a very old post I seem to remember but cannot find, a CCP dev stated that the skill affects the accuracy of scan returns when you are not in the same system as the planet, even when a planet is within range. Sort of like how falloff affects turrets (as opposed to optimal).
EDIT: I of course could be just imagining this in my path down the road of senility. |

Right, I'm pretty sure if I scan random planet X from 5 ly away I won't get as good scans as if I was in the same system. However, I'm trying to find out whether or not range affects accuracy on planets which you already have command centers on. Practically, I want to know whether or not I should be within scan range of my null planets while I manage them daily. |

Clearly it has something to do with the scan. If I try to scan a planet 20 ly away I cannot scan it. But if I have a command center on that planet I can scan it from any distance. I'm just trying to determine how accurate that scan is. |

The accuracy of the scans is another matter.
From what I've read so far from player posts, Remote Sensing doesn't effect scan accuracy. Distance does. The skill only helps you discover planets further away.
I'm still looking for the dev post I previously mentioned. |
