I played into the hands of a scammer, he pretended to be my Corp leader, and unfortunately i believed him since my corp leader was away for 4weeks. He messaged me and says hes its me , am on my alt. I did a Petition, will the GM help me?
I got nothing left..

I'm afraid not. Scamming is a legitimate part of EVE. ______________________ 106 days and still a hijack virgin... Cherry popped! ~kieron Kieron... I have some bad news... |

It's not allowed to pretend to be someone else, so the GM:s might actually do something about it in that case.
In almost any other case, however, it'd be a definite "nope". ____________________ 45545555555555555555 |

Are you sure? I've just read through the EULA and can't see anything prohibiting this. If you've got a link to something from a CCP employee or a member of ISD I would be most grateful. ______________________ 106 days and still a hijack virgin... Cherry popped! ~kieron Kieron... I think the "pretending to be someone else" only falls under impersonating a CCP representative.
The only thing I can say is, take this as a painful lesson to not do it again in the future.
I'm sorry.

Hmm... that's the way it's been written, you're right, but apparently ppl have been warned etc when pretending to be other players.

No, that's definately CCP only. I'd really like to see something "CCP stamped" if this is the case.... ______________________ 106 days and still a hijack virgin... Cherry popped! ~kieron Kieron... I have some bad news... |

You still got your dignity, oh wait...
Why would you give everything to an unconfirmed alt? Wise up man I seriously don't know whether to laugh or puke at your stupidity.
No the GMs won't do anything, don't waste their time.

Impersonating other players means creating an identical avatar and a name that's almost identical to another players name (e.g. copying a players avatar etc and name but replacing the o's with zeros etc).
Simply saying you are another player on another character doesnt count.

Too bad there isn't any sort of intergalatic police force that considers anything below killing to be a crime.

Revenge isn't so hard to do when people use their mains to scam people, there's at least the possibility of the person suffering consequences. What gets me is when people use alts to scam, there's nothing anyone can do about it. It would be nice if I could log out of my body and use an other nameless one to rob a bank or start a fake ATM scam, then forward the money into my real bodies bank account.
Should be someway to 'hack' into a charaters wallet and at least view their transaction records, and see where the scammed money is going.

i seriously doubt it is him. Deja just posted that as a joke because that is the most blatanly obvious attempt at scamming ever, and it was a joke.

I think the point is moot because the petition system just doesn't work in my experience. It never goes through and I always get an error....

I feel sorry for you.
I'm not sure they would do anything about it.
However you could post what he has done in Crime and Punishment section, warning others of his tendencies.
You seem to be a very trusting person, otherwise you probably wouldn't have done this.
I hope you can recover form this loss. You say you have nothing left, so you gave him all your ISK and everything you owned?
I hope that your just out some ISKies. Just start over and remember not to trust folks in this game so easily.

This is true. We had someone try to impersonate one of our fellow CLS members and the GMs quickly changed the name, maybe even banned the player (don't know, but she never logged on again).

Most scams are done by noob chars. Renaming can happen by char transfers. There's not a single rule protecting you from asking the other pilot to log in his other char to confirm his claims. I can't find any part of the TOS and ROC that the scammer acted against.
Rule #1: Don't trust noone, especially not on the net.
(To quote ImANoobie from one of the best UO comics: U SUCK) (The correct answer would be OOoooOOoOOOOOoo.)
Please activate the module Brain1.0 next time. It doesn't hurt most of the time.

The 'Other' type petition feature of the ingame petition system has been disabled for nearly a year. (The devs are unwilling to remove the link for some weird reason.)
The 'ask a question' link on the left works most of the time. (Only in an out of game browser. It often doesn't work during hollidays and over weekends though.)
If the link doesn't work, send an email to [email protected]. (Which doesn't work when Level3 got massive network problems - but then EVE doesn't work anyway and the GM can't work on the petitions neither.) --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. Identifying yourself as someone else, and asking someone to 'trust you' is fine and acceptable: e.g. "Hi, this is Seleene's alt, can you transfer me 200mil from the corp wallet so I can claim an escrow please" is ok (UNLESS you claim to be CCP/GM).
Creating a character or corp that's 'very similar' to an existing one on the other hand, is not allowed. (E.g. Creating a Character called Se1eene, with a very close replica of a picture and trying to pass yourself off as such).
The difference is in the _former_ you are asking them to 'trust you', in the latter, you're relying on them misreading, not noticing the font, whatever. -- We are recruiting |

can't feel very sorry for the op i'm afraid, i know that beeing scammed isn't much fun but thats what u get if ur too trusting in this game, if he was ur ceo, why didn't he log on as him? and u never wondered why he asked u to hand over ur stuff? It didn't strike u as odd? Do u hand over ur stuff to absolute strangers that claim to be ur ceo all the time?
