yeah finishing 11th hurts when not long before you were 3rd and you get knocked down and out by someone with runner runner cards who also happen to have won already once today

This is what i meant with my previous posts, me and Pez got knocked at the same time and where 12/13th i think and this with atleast 2 players allready qualified so now the final will be short on players from what was inteded.
So yeah sux a bit, would most likely have lost in the final game if i got there but would have felt a whole lot better then not getting there due to that a couple of players got 2 seats that they can't even play

Very nice tournament, hope we see more of them.... and i would LOVE to see ingame poker tables....and let them be maby exclusive to outposts:) that way you have to do something to be able to play....and the outpost owners would have an additional income if they want to invite people to their area:)

Good to see a company thats audience are all age spectrums from parents who let there kids play to the elderly, promoting addictions such as online gambling. Nice work CCP.. very responsable.
Perhaps you can see if Philip Morris could do a promotion next time or maybe sell cigarettes in the EVE store.

He's forgetting that all of this is for free. There is nothing to lose. If people complain about this getting them addicted to gambling, it's like complaining about getting ganked in lowsec. Your own fault.

Hush you idi0t - it's all free and nobody gets adicted to gambling from playing free poker.
There's a reason Poker is the worlds biggest 'sport' atm.

Edited by: Felix Cole on 29/05/2006 09:06:55 The people running this arent doing this just cause they like EVE. They are doing it to bring more traffic and prospective gamblers to there site to play the other games that arent free.
This is turn promotes gambling and makes it attractive to people who dont normally play. People will go to the site and see other things that catch there eye and give it a shot, and lose real money.
If you want to call me names fine. Maybe a moderator will do something about it *shrug* who knows.
However my point is that if you take off your rose coloured glasses and see this really as just blatant cross promotion to attract new gamblers to there website intsead of a way to give EVE players some fun you might see why this isnt so great.
Gambling is a addiction like cigarettes and I think a company like CCP is silly associating themselves with this competition no matter how fun it is.

Oh please. That they do that to get players is obvious. But, regardless of what people will choose to do with their 4Kings account later, these guys offer us free stuff and entertainment. The persons playing this aren't kids and consider themselves able to make the right decisions. We aren't forced in any way.

Well i didn't play purely because i didn't want to sign up to the 3rd party.
Had this been something ccp were doing, id have jumped at it.
I love playing, but atm i don't sub to any online service, i just play with my mates. ______ Long ago one gorgeous night, we let the stars grow free. We let Zhuge do that once, he came back carrying a traffic cone, a forsale sign and three empty bottles of dutch lager. He also lost his Zimmer Frame... - Imaran

I admit I have always been suspicious of online gambling clients. But since CCP checked it out, supported this initiative, and people who analyze their outgoing traffic didn't report anything suspicious being sent, I went ahead and signed up. I was also pleased to see that no credit card information is needed to play for free.

Felix - drinking Cola is just as much a root to an addiction and I'm pretty sure most the EVE player base drinks that.
I know for a fact that most of my corpmates (almost 500) drinks beer, that is also addictive.
I have to go drive 200 miles in a moment - driving is the most dangerous way of transporting yourself and guess what - I know most the EVE playerbase drives (or gets driven) ...
Lets all ***** and moan about stuff that can potentially and only theoretically harm us and block people from enjoying life - that's a grand idea .... NOT.

Edited by: Felix Cole on 29/05/2006 09:56:14 I dont think I was ****** and moaning about anything. I thought I gave a constructive and concise reason why I thought this was a bad promotion to support on CCPs behalf. Obviously my first post was dripping with sarcasim and for that I apologise but I dont think that either post has been a whine.
Perhaps you could give some reasons why im wrong that relate to gambling rather then just bringing up cola products and driving examples as to why Gambling is healthy over the internet and why CCP are doing its customers a service promoting such activities?
Please enlighten me as to why this is good for the EVE community..

First off - gambling requires you to gamble money - In this case nobody is paying for anything.
Secondly - it was immense fun as it was poker with EVE players you've met and hadnt met also the chat in the poker were even more busy and fun than the poker itself.
Thirdly - You are assuming that because 4Kings are hosting a closed poker tournament on their servers that some EVE players are going to be addicted to gambling - that is simply ignorant and an insulting to the EVE players comon sense and level of integrity.
I think you should worry abot yourself and less about everyone else - my analogies were spot on as it was highlighting your points about stuff that is theoretically a problem but not practically.
In any case - if you dont like it for some oddly reasoning outside logic and common sense - at least keep it to yourself instead of coming down on CCP for doing something GOOD for the player base.
To sum up - FACTS:
EVE Players liked this event. A single individual has been moaning on the forums (heh, nothing unsual there, cant please everyone). 4Kings did an excellent job. The tournament is/was FREE and FUN. Nobody got addicted to gambling.

I had a real blast with playing poker this night. And i made it in the final last night too ... well it was more inn the morning
The only thing i dont like very much is the date on the finals. Its driving me in some truble to have it on the 1 June. Wouldt it have been much more staight forward to have the final just a week later on same weekday? Overlaping dates would be less probably in that way and sunday ist most time the peak day for EVE too.

Well, after playing in the first qualifier and going out 19th after having been 9th, then going out of the seccond 35th after having been 4th in chips for a little while, I can say that this eve poker tournament is grand
I've never played a poker tournament before, but all those nights watching the poker chanel must have helped [;)]
Gotta say I'm happy Khatred got through in the third qualifier, after getting him down to 300 chips in the seccond with an exceptionally lucky three on the river putting a pair on the board to beat his aces and dueces (became threes) ten kicker with my aces and threes king kicker (all in on ace king suited)... if he hadn't gone through he might have stopped selling me HACs . As it happened managed to be 5th largest stack when the first through third all turned up at my tabble... and they nicked all my chips hehehe
This poker bussiness is almost as good as PVP! yarbqhedghogs!
More tournaments sez I!! ----
nothing to see here, move along nicely now, is that a pink dread out there. aaww you just missed it -eris It's not an Eidolon with 5 Basic Miner's on it, that's for certain.(FF04) ~kieron No love for me? :'( - Wrangler If you can't beat Eris, join her, hmmm that sounded so much better in my head - Cortes Cuddles Eeyore. He's soooo cute and doesn't play EVE. perfect -eris Eve-online Forum mods arn't Pokemon, you don't need to collect them all - Ductoris Here's my autograph - now do I get some groupie lub? Well I had a hell of a time Certainly beat the usual poker tournaments, the banter was what I've come to expect from eve - mature and witty.. Rather than the usual "wtf - 9 high? What you doin beating me with them cards?" you get at other tables.
I'd certainly sign up for another bout. And as for the addiction, I used to play on-line poker before I came to eve.. Swapped one addiction for another I'd still be losing money at poker if I weren't now running missions in my spare time. Yay Eve!

Estimate the average age. The average age is not what i call kids. There are rarely people playing under 16. Why? Because EVE is complex and kids don't survive in this kids-hating-community.
And if you can drink or drive, you are able to decied wether to gamble or not.
And on top of that, parents should look over the shoulder of their young children. If they don't that isnt CCP's fault, its the parents fault.
So now hush and back in your straightjacket, who let you out anyway.

Yes that may be the case, but as the links I have posted show, Online Gambling such as this is a way to start the ball rolling for younger people and get them addicted sooner, hence one of the reasons I am against it.
