Hallo, I came back to EVE a few days ago and thanks to many helpful Forum Warriors I am back in the Lvl4 game. But, I have reached another roadblock and I can't seem to work my head around it due to all the myriad changes that EVE has gone through in the last year:
Battlecruisers and Destroyers got their skills separated Empire-wise, thankfully I managed to max both to V earlier so now I have can fly all the BC's. Therein lies my problem, I can fly all the BC's so I don't know which Medium Weapon system to train for. Before it used to be a no-brainer - train up the medium weapons system for the Large Weapon system you want. Now with the turret changes, we can train whatever system we want whenever we want.
Also, add in the fact, that Strategic cruisers use the same Medium weapon skills - I want to be sure before I spend time training up. Can you, the Forum Warriors, suggest which BC, Strategic Cruiser and Weapons systems go hand in hand for PvE? I intend to collect all the information and make a forum post for other returnee's. Thank you in advance for all you help!

Assuming you are out in Providence shooting Sansha, lasers, drones, missiles, and projectiles all work reasonably well. However many medium sized missile boats have a useless (against Sansha anyway) kinetic damage bonus, and projectiles either have bad projection on most hulls (ACs) or poor DPS (arties).
So drones work quite well and lasers are also reasonable. That being said you can make any weapon system work really. Some are just a little more optimal than others depending on what you are shooting at. |

It looks like you have good laser skills, so I would go with lasers. The Legion is decent for PVE. The Paladin is excellent. True, I played with AC's and Arty's and i was not too fascinated with them. But the arty thrasher was awesome with alpha strikes!
Is the Legion good for other pirate factions besides Sansha? If possible, can you tell me about the strategic crusiers like Tengu, Loki, etc? |

The Legion's resist profile lends it to tanking Angles and Rouge Drones and to a lesser extent Guristas. Its HAM subsystem lets it deal explosive or kinetic damage but the HAM subsystem isn't nearly as good as the missile sub on the Tengu. Mostly due to its lack of a range bonus.
The Tengu has great range with HAMs but it has an EM hole and it's kinetic bonus is useless against Sansha. Tengu pilots are actually slightly better off loading EM ammo against them.
The Loki has the perfect resist profile for Sansha but ACs have projection issues on it and drink ammo while the DPS of arties is rather lackluster.
The Proteus doesn't have the proper resists or damage type but a blaster/mwd fit is fun to fly and can do enough sheer DPS to be workable. I even knew a guy who ratted Sansha in a rail Proteus.
You can rat Sansha fine in either a laser or HAM legion. I have done it myself.
The answer is that all T3s are workable Sansha ratters but none of them will do as well as properly fit and flown T1 BS. However the Tengu is amazing for Guristas and Serpentis and pretty good for Angles. The Proteus is also very good for Guristas and Serpentis but not quite as good for Angles. |

Wow, now i get the differences between Strategic Cruisers.
After reading this, I think I will take the Tengu first. I like missiles and shields.
And mostly I am going either for the Paladin or Nightmare for BS ratting.
Between Blasters and Railguns, which one has more application in PvE? You explained Projectiles nicely, so I am hoping you can clear this up for me as well. |

At the medium size I would say rails are probably the better PvE choice due to their better range. A blaster boat will spend more time getting into range than actually firing.
Both the Paladin and the Nightmare are great for ratting Sansha although bastion mode is a serious liability in null and the price of both hulls tends to attract unwanted attention. |

I also saw that with all the changes, Gallente BC's are a bit better for PvE. I am training medium laser first as it will get over sooner then Railguns! |

I'd say, "all of them". It is large weapons that really take a lot of training time. |

Eventually I am going to train all of them. But I want to make a plan and train the ones I am going to need to first. Each Medium Weapon skill needs about 2 weeks to reach T2 and for large weapons it's 1 month and I don't want to be bored during that period. |

if you're looking at getting into the nightmare/Paladin then lasers are the way you want to go, Mega Pulses are my personal favourite as they hit out relatively far for a short ranged weapon (Approx 60-70km with Scorch) and the DPS you get close up is respectable.
With the above in mind I'd say that your best option is the legion as you get the laser skills you'll need for your future ships, and the armor skills trained up for the paladin, You'd then be left to train the Large weapons up and shield if you choose to go Nightmare. |

Yes but I didn't want to be a jack of all trades so only I started this thread. I wanted to train one weapon system up and play with it while training the next weapon system. I intend to train all weapon systems. |

Nothing wrong with being a jack of all trades really. I am nearing 100 mil SP and I still can't fly a single capital. ;) Besides, training all the medium weapons to 3 or 4 is pretty fast and lets you try them all out before you decide which one to take to T2 first. |

What you say is right. I have already trained most medium weapon systems to 3. So I will try using them and take it from there. |

The best weapon systems to date must be lasers for range/decent tracking and hybrids for dps/good projection. The PVE rail proteus does about 850 dps with maxed subs and t2 guns (including small drones - about 900 dps with medium drones). It has excellent projection and can tank nicely, speed tank does help, but not necessary.
Here's a fit that works quite well:
Quote: [Proteus, Proteus fit]
Corpum A-Type Medium Armor Repairer Shadow Serpentis Armor EM Hardener Shadow Serpentis Armor Thermic Hardener Shadow Serpentis Armor EM Hardener Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer
Gistum A-Type 10MN Microwarpdrive Large Capacitor Battery II Shadow Serpentis Tracking Computer, Tracking Speed Script

Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump II Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump II Medium Semiconductor Memory Cell I
Proteus Engineering - Power Core Multiplier Proteus Defensive - Nanobot Injector Proteus Offensive - Hybrid Propulsion Armature Proteus Propulsion - Localized Injectors Proteus Electronics - Dissolution Sequencer
Hammerhead II x5
You can refit 3 of the mag stabs, the tracking computer and the MWD for T2 if you so prefer. Repper can be down graded for faction and you will still do well.
Price tag on this is sat at 1 350 000 000,- ISK, but if you do the above mentioned refitting, you're looking at about 500 000 000m,- ISK. |
