For myself, I processed my grief and my feelings on the matter some time ago. Big displays of memory no longer seem so appropriate. This year, I preferred just myself, the stars, candlelight and water, and a moment of reflection.
There are people alive today who would not have survived the attack on Malkalen if not for my training as a surgeon. In a few weeks, an orphaned little boy whom I personally recovered in his pressurised crib from a depressurised residential unit will reach his seventh birthday and will start receiving the academic sponsorship I set up for him. This year, the station was rebuilt, amid Ishukone recording a highly profitable year.
For once, Diana Kim has hit upon a spark of the truth: Going forward, our most appropriate tribute should be deeds. Mens Reppola has honoured his predecessor by rebuilding Ishukone. Foreign relations remain strained but stable. Rhetoric and quotations have now become an indulgence rather than an appropriate tribute.
I don't intend to ever forget the events of six years ago. There are questions, not least surrounding Alexander Noir, that I would be very interested in learning the answers to. But to borrow a proverb I once heard, if you keep looking over your shoulder then you'll bump into a tree. Time to tone down, face the future, and work.
Whilst I applaud the sentiments, this year's gathering was a lot less about laying wreaths of Kresh in space while looking grim in our dress grays and a lot more about suuolen getting together for a few drinks and some shop/personal talk.
Perhaps that was for the best. "You let one of them go, but that's nothing new is it? Every now and then a little victim is allowed to escape; because she smiled, because he's got freckles, because they begged. And that's how you live with yourself. That's how you slaughter millions." "Only a killer would know that..." |

A wise woman once told me as regards the Amarr faith, that it is often those who quote the Scriptures the most whom likely know the least how to live by them. In much the same way I think, those who take every opportunity to try and impress how Caldari they are, likely know the least what it is to live by the tenets and ideals that define it.

Mr. Stitcher is hurt. I wonder, how many of your gallentean lovers I have killed during the war? Who of them made you to betray your people, and hide from service to the State in some Maker-forsaken wormhole?

But after his death, when it got under Reppola's rule, all this time Ishukone was conflicting with the State. All this hostilities towards Ishukone and from Ishukone towards other State corporations. While Gairushi was building Ishukone, Reppola has been destroying it.
But traitor citizens love traitor CEO. I just hope you all will die before you do real harm to the State.

Funny kind of "destroying", turning the corporation's profits around and rebuilding its headquarters via a series of extremely shrewd lateral-thinking deals with the Intaki, Mordu's Legion and, apparently, the Minmatar Republic.
Have you forgotten that the State is a formal alliance of corporations? The objective is profit for collective prosperity, an objective which Reppola-haama has fulfilled with aplomb. Politics are the vehicle for profit, the means to the end, not the end themselves.
A Caldari would understand that.
