Wow, I didn't know my Iteron has so many crew members.... So much for the captain going down with the ship....
Aparently, I yelled "GET OUT OF MY WAY!!!!!!!!" and ran to the only escape pod and let them all die....
that's very sad

you're actually a cybernetically enhanced pilot that connects directly with the ships systems through neural interfaces.
It's a big pod full of goo, and when you blow up, it's the only thing that's saved.
As for your crew, they're expendable.

They get a "danger pay" bonus, a hiding place from security forces, and 3 squares. Hey, it's slightly better than Death Row.
You get to drive and a pod in case of "accidents".

Empires consider the ship Captain as a Valuable Commodity. While the Crew are expendable. Just hope while your in your pod you don't come across some of your crew members relatives.

Crew probably gets compressed and ejected in economy pods that are too small to be noticeable... ----------------------------- You think Marco Polo said "Damn Mongolians were camping that cave entry into the next valley the entire day, you can't get friggin anywhere in the world with those damn griefer tribes all over the place" ? -Indigo Seqi

Could someone point me to the source of the "Pilot in a Pod of Goo" backstory. I'd like to learn more about the fictional portion of EVE.
Thanks in advance!

The pod idea is quite cool, and yeah, the jovian wet grave is quite scary. It also means we're special, we've undergone intensive training to be able to enter and exit pods without going into mindlock.
Which makes us too precious to lose

The thing is... We can't exit pods.

Check catch of the day story
Quote: The camera drone had entered the ship when it docked and only the infrared sensors were available to Gaspar to get a picture of his surroundings in the few moments it took the berth crane to lift the capsule from the ship. Gaspar always hated these moments, he relied heavily on his camera drone to get a sense of his whereabouts and with it gone he always became uncomfortably aware of the sticky goo and the blackness enveloping him in the capsule. But this discomfort was offset by the anticipation that in a few minutes heĈd be free of the confines of the capsule and his senses would again be allowed to feel and function normally.
So who says our alts cant get out of the pod? -------- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs

The question I want answered is what the crew does when I switch ships? Do they sit in the ship and twiddle their thumbs? Well, I'm pretty sure that sailors haven't changed much over a few thousand years...so they're probably just getting laid.

I think that crew never look for a pod. Crew are expendable, for one easy reason: their clones costs a misery of Isks!
All crews have their own clone. But they dont have to know how to manage a ship. So, the only pod we'll see is for the "more expensive clone": you. Who cares if 5000 people dies? Their close could costs 50 isks! I guess all crew has a clone insurance like us. They pay it by themselves (like us). The only clone that should have a chance to save is the captain one: about 1/2 million isk plus implants. I think is pretty reasonable as possible answer...
