I got a Gnosis from a friend and I've fitted it as a Passive shield tank/missile boat and running L3 missions with it. Most people on the chat are telling me that a Drake would be better for this. I don't understand their reasoning since Gnosis seem to have such superior role bonuses.
Should I sell the Gnosis and get a Drake? |

I personally am not a fan of Drakes. That being said, Drakes were a power house for quite some time and a lot of people still like them (CCP re-balanced them as part of the ship re-balance). If your Gnosis is working fine, stick with it. The nice thing about the Gnosis is that it's damage bonuses apply to all weapons and its shield / armor bonuses are universal. This means its not as powerful as specific set up ships, but is great for testing out various set ups to figure out what works for you. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=266074 - Sniggwaffe (Waffles)

Gnosis has terrible shield resist and no tanking bonus. It'll also do less damage with missiles overall, the drake's loadout is much better there.
The gnosis has bonuses to exploration, turrets, drones, etc: many things which won't effect shield/missile combat. It's a jack of all trades, master of none.
The drake is much more specialized.
That being said the gnosis's bonuses are automatic and require no skills, so they can be better on a new character. The drake bonuses will only be better once you have Caldari Battlecruiser to level IV or higher. The Drake's bonuses ARE better, but require you to have the appropriate skills trained. Gnosis: 5 Launchers * (1 + 25% Heavy Missile damage) = 6.25
Drake: 6 Launchers * 1 non-Kinetic damage = 6 6 Launchers * (1 + Calari Battlecruiser Skill * 10% Kinetic Damage) = 9
So the Gnosis is marginally better against Sansha, Blood Raiders, and Rogue Drones, all EM weak. The Drake is probably better for the rest. |

Experiment.
I'd point out that if you'd need to sell the Gnosis to purchase a Drake, that implies you might well be flying a ship you cannot afford to lose.
Don't do that. The first rule of EVE is never undock in a ship you can't afford to lose. (The second rule is never trust anyone in game unless you are sleeping with them IRL). Set the universe on fire - then sell the survivors ash. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. That's assuming a bit much.
Being able to afford to lose a ship and being able to afford to replace a ship are different things. Take a mission runner for instance. Let's say he has 300 mil, a raven, and a rattlesnake. He can clearly "afford to lose" the raven as he can just buy another. But he can also "afford to lose" the rattlesnake in a more abstract sense as he can still mission and make a living without it, and could quickly replace it by using his other ship despite that he does not have the isk on hand right now. The gnosis is a good ship if you have bad skills if you have good skills a ship like the drake is better. Put it this way the gnosis can do a lot of things but none of them well then you have a ship that has a role like the drake and with decent skills that ship will do that role very well. Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if your in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. |

I would recommend you to stay with the Gnosis for now, not because it's better than the Drake but because it's much more effective with lower skills (all the ship bonuses apply with no skill requirements, while a drake would have to train the lenghty caldari battlecruiser to V to take advantage of them).

I had to make this very same choice some months ago. I was running L3 for SoE so not all of the enemies were guristas, and the Drake damage was crappy even with good supporting skills for anyone who wasn't weak to kinectic
I went with the Gnosis and I don't regret it at all. The downside is that you'll want to have good drone skills (at least IV) as well to have a decent DPS. I also used passive tank (3x LSE II and 2x shield hardners) and rarelly had to warp out of missions. Since you have damage selectability (does this word even exists? lol) you can pick the missiles and drones that are adequate for your mission, fit specific shield hardners and wipe it clean. |

It's not necessarily true that you can trust someone you are sleeping with in real life . |

Do not sleep with Max (aka Sabriz Adoudel) and you are safe.
