Hi all. I'm quite new to this game, and I would like to set my ship skills training path. I like null sec exploration, so I was thinking about mastering for Legion. I've google some infos, where people say that Tengu is much better then Legion. My question is: why is it better ? They have similar stats, Tengu uses rockets + shield tanking, and Legion uses lasers + armor tanking - thats all I know, but I have no clue what is better for null sec exploration (relic) + low sec combat site exploration. Any information if "Tengu is better then Legion" statement is true will be appreciated. |

I vaguely recall something about Caldari being PVE on easy mode ... but not sure if that still holds.
Really, the benefit comes from the ability to passive shield tank things... which leaves low slots free for DPS mods, amongst other things. That said - T3 (and "PVE stuff") were never that important to me, and neither are shields (which are just that red bar above armor) One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

Tengu is better, because you can chose damage type by chosing missiles.
For data and relic sites it doesn't matter what t3 ship you chose if its cloaky and nullified (for safer travel), because there aren't rats. |

The Tengu was historically better than it is now. It's still decent, but a year or so ago it was ridiculously powerful.
Both the Tengu and the Legion will serve a nullsec combat site runner fairly well. The Legion may encounter more difficulty with energy neutralization towers in some sites (and is consequently a terrible ship for level 5 security missions, although they aren't run very much). Rule 2: Never trust anyone in-game unless you are sleeping with them IRL. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. www.minerbumping.com - ganking miners and causing chaos |

If anyone just says "Tengu is better than Legion" he's either plain wrong, biased, making a joke or roleplaying a Caldari. The Tengu is a fine ship and there are certain areas where it's better than the Legion. However, there are other areas where you might prefer a Legion or Proteus or Loki. It depends on what you aim for - what you want to do.
You wrote that you "like" null sec exploration. But what exactly do you want to do? And how much experience do you have with null sec exploration? (I assume you're posting with an alt because it's very obvious that the toon you posted with is miles away from being able to field a T3 cruiser and has no experiece whatsoever.)
Do you intend to scan for combat sites and do them? Go for Relic and Data sites? Do you want to PvP or do you intend to focus on PvE?
And how do you intend to do it? Do you have a base in null sec? A POS or even a station where you are allowed to dock? Or do you intend to bring everything in your cargo - alternate fits and ammo for example?
Null sec is not as dangerous as many people think. But it's far from being safe either. If you really want to focus on null sec exploration - especially the PvE side of it - you might want to consider joining one of the large alliances renter corps.

With that being said tengu will die to same neuting towers because tengu without cap is dead tengu even if its missiles keep shooting :) I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |

Hola!
I went for a Legion myself, but from my research it seemed to boil down to a couple of things:
Tengu:
Most people seemed to favor a passive shield tank. They liked the ability to select damage type with missiles, and it seemed like with a passive shield tank that opened up more damage modules and some more capacitor drainy things like a MWD for easy range control. Toss on long range weaponry with missiles and yeah, that seems like a really solid ship choice.
Legion:
From experience I can tell you it's an active armor tank with nicely hard hitting lasers. Neuts/webs kinda suck, but again, personal experience once I get my skills (both ship and combat experience) higher they won't be as much of a problem.
General consensus was that both were good ships, Tengu could kill things a bit easier and faster due to selectable damage types. Legion will have the same issues that all laser ships have vs factions.
I mostly use my Legion for WH stuff, so selectable damage isn't an issue for me at this time. I don't know about Tengus, but I can tell you my Legion has a wicked amount of tanking ability. Again though, being active tank + lasers makes it very cap dependent. Which isn't a bad thing IMO, just something to be aware of.
If I wanted pure flexibility, I'd be looking at a Loki or Tengu myself. I like lasers and Amar ship designs though, and the differences for me weren't that big, so I went with the Legion. |

I've personally never used or seen them in action, but I know people who claim to do it. The Legion has far less tank capability than a Tengu, but is far better at applying damage to frigate-sized targets.
When in w-space, by the time our fleet of Tengus had locked a Sleeper frigate, a single Legion would destroy it.
Tengu missile damage isn't range or tracking dependent. |

Yes it is best to start with the tengu then move on to the legion afterwards. Just answering the question you asked buddy. If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough. |
