Edited by: Tas Devil on 02/06/2006 11:32:38 The 6th of June patch has had its content so dramatically reduced in the last days... and now contains precious little changes...
CCP can't you just hold on to that patch and bundle it in 1 to 2 weeks with the static update that you had to delay ?
Use the 2 weeks to further test your chat changes and fixes... no offense but I bet half of what you fix with chats will generate new chat bugs...

Agreed...
Except the deadspace, the ships, the Modules, Weapons and Drones, the skills and implants, the POS and finally market changes are all delayed as per the red text in that link...
ONLY the chat and messages + MIsc. changes are going in on the 6th of June...

I would prefer to wait two weeks and for it to work tbh, as long as it is only 2 weeks. ----------------------------------------------

Might as well get the easy stuff out of the way so that it doesn't have to happen with the good stuff.

Well, the question is why not deploy the patch now? The client changes are all set up for deployment and ready to go.
Essentially the patch has been split into 2 parts, and those two parts aren't really dependant on each other. The bit they're going with is the bit that changes client code. This bit would be deployed in the same way, and have the same issues with it, whether or not it's deployed with the static update, or on it's own. Sure, waiting another couple of weeks might catch the odd issue or two, but you could delay any patch indefinitely with that argument, got to draw the line somewhere! Besides, if something does go wrong, they then have a week or two to put together a mini-patch to fix it that can go out with the static update
The static update is really just changing numbers in the server DB - I would be surprised if it requires a client patch at all. At most I'd expect a pile of cache refreshing to occur the first time you logged in. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

Assuming chat fixes are the easy stuff is I think a little hopefull
Chat bugs/uglyness/spacing/non aligning/lag has been the one major problem experienced by all EvE players in the last 6 months... it affects all and has been fixed and patched already a half-dozen times ... and its still as bugged as ever...
Most of the fixes for chat in this patch actually correct new chat bugs introduced only 3 weeks ago with the latest patch...

I almost agree but this item:
Switching between tabbed chat channels no longer causes client lag.
in my opinion is the most important fix that cannot wait.. Nothing's worse than having my client lag to hell when changing chat tabs (I do this a LOT) on a high end gaming PC. ----------------------------- EVE Addict |

In my opinion yes, it is absolutley worth it. Why? In my experience small patches are less likely to cause problems! And also if there is some problem it will probably be easier to find the elusive line of code that caused it. Like the devs have said, some bugs are not apparent until the code runs on the main cluster with 10k+ players.
Yay for small and frequent patches!

For the sake of a few extra hours down time it'll be worth it to solve the problems they've listed. Other problems can be solved a few weeks down the line with another small patch.
Also from a development point of view I think its wiser to deploy these smaller patched more regularly then larger ones more sparsely as it helps to keep the problems more controlled and identifiable if there are any. Less updated content means its more readily noticed if something is wrong and more quickly, meaning it can possibly be corrected the next patch around only a few weeks later.
PS, hi hoshi :)

Yeah? the majority of EVE's population doesnt fly carriers. I personally wouldnt want a 2 day downtime for a ship that I havent even seen flying about in EVE to get some fix that I'm not aware about.
Just my personal opinion though.

Tbh, just the chat fixes: Lag on window change, Banned from channel errors, and so forth are good enough reasons for a patch.
Hell, anything that causes lag is worth an impromptu patch.

What's funny about the date is the fact that CCP refuses to boost railguns because they are TEH DEBIL!! Instead, let's give MORE boosts to Projectiles! Apparently it wasn't enough for Projectiles to have the hardest hitting, farthest hitting, quite accurate guns in the game to be able to hit harder AND not use the capacitor at all... we need to give them an ammo boost! Apparently fewer and fewer Minmitars are becoming gate snipers, and CCP is against this movement religiously!
Gallente FTL, right, CCP? Nerf the drones! **** the railguns! Turn their ships into styrofoam!\

Mind sharing? I've yet to see a medium railgun (or a large for that matter) hit for 1000+... but it's actually common for my corpmates to show me journal reports of Projectiles doing it. Of course, the ammo boost isn't going to the 1200s, but even still. The projectiles are by far better than railguns, but... apparenly because I don't feel like doing math I'll get smart ass replies with no substance. --- --- --- ---

farthest hitting - wrong (rails hit further :P) quite accurate - LOL??? not using cap - assuming your talking about artys here ... the change from 2 cap every 10s to 0 cap makes a big diff OMGF!!

Well, artillery are supposed to have high alpha strike damage. Their rate of fire is very low, so their dps is not very good either. They hit hard from a distance and thats what they are good at. Appearently tux boosted their damage a little. I think it was because the larger guns just wasnt worth fitting compared to the smaller ones, but im not certain. The dps of artillery is still low.
Tempests can be used for gate sniping, but its probably more used in fleets.

Ummm... ever seen a Minmitar ship floating out of the range of sentry guns, but is still able to shoot you? So have I... several times.
Accuracy... hell, they hit fine (didn't say they were more or less accurate). They could miss every other shot, but with the power behind them they would still out damage a full rack of railguns hitting each time.
Not using the capacitor... read the patch notes for this last patch they implemented.
Why I replied to you... I'm hoping that my arguments will encourage the usage of sentences and punctuation. --- --- --- ---

Were you not the biggest advocate of small patches, frequently? So you get small patches and now you wish they would hold up for more changes to throw in a patch? Hard to please the crowd. I already saw someone post that CCP is "blogging too much when they should be fixing the game" too.

Have you ever seen an Amarr ship snipe outside sentry range? Yes Have you ever seen a Gallente ship do it too? Yes
They all have the ability to snipe, try a device called sensor boosters and tracking modules, works wonders.
As for your comment on damage. Wrecking damage accounts for about 1% of projectile hits. The other damage you speak of is also due to a sniping Tempest devoting almost every slot to make that damage. By the way the only weapon that does all this "miraculous" stuff is the 1400. That did not get boosted. If they are so the "I win" button try using them.
And the reply to cap was in resonse to yours. Projectiles never used a lot of cap anyway. It does not make much of a difference. Hint: look at our capacitors anyway.
Rails may not be the best weapon but they don't need super boosts. BTW, if you can tank better should you not have a trade off? Just becuase everything in the game does not match stat for stat does not mean they are unbalanced.
