On a more serious note: I'm surprised, but it's nice to see the game featured in such a way :) All those new subs, sort of like that massive surge after the B-R free publicity? Look at the PCU now. Note how the numbers are now lower than BEFORE B-R. But I am sure there is zero correlation between the PCU and the actual subs. Besides, we can always go to the % of votes cast and the total votes cast in the past CSM "election" to figure out...oh wait.
I can assure you that there are many that do not vote. I am one of them and I even new about the vote. There are 1000's of pilots, probably more, that do not even interact with any part of EvE other than the client/game itself.

Financial success is not necessarily success. You can win a war but if you had to burn every village, salt every field, poison the wells, burn the bridges and effectively destroy all developments of civilization as you go, what have you really won other than the impoverishment of your children? |

It amuses me to see this thread next to the "Why Isn't EVE More Popular" thread. "EVE is a dark and harsh world, you're supposed to feel a bit worried and slightly angry when you log in, you're not supposed to feel like you're logging in to a happy, happy, fluffy, fluffy lala land filled with fun and adventures, that's what hello kitty online is for." -CCP Wrangler |

Again personal opinion is irrelevant when every actual metric of success is something they have achieved. Whether it be sustained subs, profitability, longevity, and overall impact on the genre itself(for better or worse). They themselves can't be blamed for the popularity they created or the mass of developers that followed them in that model. Innovation is nice when it works but usually doesn't, but simplicity can be a beautiful thing, and that is what WoW did and was very successful at it.

Eve is definitely a great game but I do feel its fallen off a bit lately, even with all the recent expansions. Hopefully things revamp this year if CCP actually continues with CCP Seagul's vision, and hopefully better than when they were gonna open up stations... I'm still waiting for that one.. OH! and the shield effects the showed off years ago with asteroids breaking apart when they collided with the faction carrier...ya that would have been sick
But I don't think I'll be totally happy till they release high rez textures.. I mean they can keep releasing cool new ships and if you zoom out its almost like there high deff and the textures a lil less Meh.... :P

I expect nothing to happen to plex prices, or any detectable fluctuations in subscriber numbers.
No one reads PC Gamer anymore. They have less than 100k subscribers worldwide, and a lot of those subscriptions are just residual. A ratty sentence in a shaded box on a page with a lot of other information listed isn't going to convince anyone to drop what they're doing and start a trial account. |

Perhaps. But many who see that article and have not tried Eve will be tempted to do so. A MMO that beat World Of Warcraft and the new kid on the block Final Fantasy XIV must be worth a look at...... |

Have uhh... Have you looked at the FFXIV numbers?
How about ESO?
Infestation: Survivor stories is doing better than both... You know, that one game that used to go by the name The War Z. Got removed from Steam for being mostly unfinished, not having most of the features it advertised, a predatory business model and stealing art assets? Yeah. That game is gaining subscribers, both ESO and FFXIV are losing them hand over fist.
The MMO market is getting ********, and there is going to be some serious money lost before it turns around. Much more than ESO has already (and rightfully) lost.
I'm going to make a prediction and say that Eve won't be affected at all. It's been pretty unique in how it's just kind of sat off to the side in it's private little economic environment for a decade now and nothing is coming that could rock the boat. |

I'm not surprized about ESO: Was a great solo game but I felt it wouldn't work online as other players spoil that immersion into the RP world (plus the online graphics were far worse). I never played it.
I still would like to try FFXIV but I paid for the first version which was badly constructed and I really think a refund is due before I pay again for this "rebirth" version. But it looks great!
Yeah, Eve is like one of those old, reliable war-horses that always returns to it's owner. It has a solid dedicated membership which will keep it up against many new challenges, although even Eve has to keep up as the graphics and machines get better. |

Have you played other MMOs? I've played most, and they suck(except Utima Online, which used to be awesome but now sucks). None of them have meaning anymore. They're all basically Call of Duty in a persistent world. Even those that aren't strictly based upon player competition, like WoW(which should release an expansion with the acronym MeH), are all about competing to have the best gear or quickest raid time. Most of them could have their multiplayer reduced to the equivalent of Diablo, meaning co-op campaigns, an arena and a trade system, and it wouldn't change anything about them. They'd still be the exact same games minus latency issues. EvE might well be the only true MMO in existence today, and has had an 11 year run so far. That, to me, qualifies as deserving of recognition for being so obviously better than all others that it has outlived the competition and is still going.
