This may be a redundant post but if not I'd like to bring the situation to the attention of CCP and the Eve community as a whole. We've done PLEX for good in the past and although the possibility of further hiking up PLEX prices may not be easy on our in game wallets, I think people's lives are somewhat more important than that. I know I have some in game funds I'd like to use for the people affected by the flooding.

Just checking, you know there are actually worse things going on in the world than a flood in Europe, right? I know it's on the news but that doesn't make it important.. Space lonely? www.multicamchat.com |

key word is reality.
i live in a real world. one in which people die in. and when they die they don't get to respawn.
let's leave the artificial universe out of it and focus on the real one here. you know, the one that actually matters. |

can't help but feel that a bit of flooding isn't quite worthy of a plex for good campaign.
otherwise it'd be an annual event for england, and most likely most of the world. |

To be blunt CCP won't make much publicity doing a plex raising donation for the Balkans. I mean compared to the philippines which left entire towns and cities devastated to the point that international relief was mobilized the Balkan floods are tame. TL;DR not enough death and devastations. |

wish i had a thumbs down button right about now... Wow aren't you a noble man. And all the others who are circlejerking right now. But the flood in the Balkans is the media's flavour of the day. The millions of homeless Syrian refugees without medical aid are not. The balkan countries will be okay in 6 months. Whilst the flooding in the balkans is not a nice thing and has effected many peoples lives, in the grand scheme of things it is just a tiny drop in a very big ocean of misery.
I have to agree with DrSmegma.
You can not compare the the flooding in the Balkans to the suffering of millions of innocent men, woman and children that is happening right now in Syria or the plight of millions of people who are suffering across the Africa's Sahel belt.
Again I am not trying to belittle those who have suffered in the floods, but at least they know they in the coming days they will get medical aid, a roof over their heads and food to eat.
Those in Syria and across the Africa's Sahel belt have no such guarantees. |

Kinda have to agree, hurricanes and super earthquakes are worthy of donation drives, as someone else pointed out if flooding were enough then we would be having these things all the time, we do need to draw a line at some point, while its not nice for those involved floods do happen an awful lot |

I have posted the info 5 days ago in Out of Pod Experience : https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=345932&find=unread. The reason was primarily to see what was happening with fellow pod pilots from the affected areas. Some info was shared in the thread and some came from social media about the thread. Big thanks goes to ISD Ezwal for making it sticky when it was needed.
Since then, the situation has been developing and this is my overview of it:
(Oh, by the way, I'm from Serbia approximately 3km from one of the severely affected areas)
As it usually is with developing countries, the initial reaction of the government was poor, since the country lacked even enough rescue boats due to not enough funds being allocated in the past. Emergency supplies were also low, as well as skilled rescue workforce. The biggest help and impact that could be provided was when the disaster was happening and right after the disaster happened in terms of rescue equipment, trained rescue personality and emergency supplies.
Yes, the countries are not among the rich or completely developed. However, Croatia has been a member of EU since July last year and Serbia is on the same path as well. As such, both countries have a certain level of access to EU's disaster relief funds. Serbia, for example, have another big partner that is helping and will be helping in the future - Russia. Other countries which have business interests in the area, like United States, United Arab Emirates and China are providing help as well. And Japan is providing help because of the help our people provided after Fukushima disaster.
Bosnia was hit the worst with floods and land slides, but I'm certain that the help will be split between the countries. I have noticed that the disaster have united the people of different nationalities and religions in the area, like I already mentioned in the linked post, and that the war that was raging 20 years ago is becoming a thing of the past and just a really really bad memory. People just want to help each other now, which is a great thing.
Overall, there is great amount of help coming from all sides of the World. It was very difficult in the beginning, during rescue operations, especially because the global media didn't cover the events in time or haven't dedicated much attention to it, so there was no global awareness of what's happening when the help was needed the most. Tens of thousands of people lost everything they had and entire cities have been destroyed. It will require much time, work and dedication to rebuild. But, considering that the help is coming from everywhere, it's a matter of governments utilizing the help wisely now.
TL;DR: Save the "Plex for Good" initiative for another time. EU, Russia, USA, UAE, China and Japan have this one covered and we have so many local volunteers that it's not uncommon to have too much of them in the affected area. Local charities are greatly contributing as well (Red Cross in particular).
Thank you ALL for the great help so far, especially Russia and their rescue teams. Many lives were lost, but it could have been much worse without your help. My signature got stolen (o.0) |

The difference here is that a plex contribution will help out the balkans , however for the other 2 will need something totally different from a plex drive.
Some things can be changed with money but other things need a voice .
