Could EVE become the "gaming singularity"?
Could EVE become the top strategy game, combined with Legion (the top sandbox FPS), combined with Valkyrie (the top VR game) which then combined with WiS (which is the top social game). With all of these different platforms combined, it is entirely possible that EVE becomes the single game that everybody plays - all interconnected in the same universe?
The prospect is mindblowing. EVE could overtake Facebook, Twitter and Google as the most important platform of the century?

All indications point to no. Or yes. It seems to change when I shake this thing.

Not while there are people who can barely manage farmville. That said it certainly is an interesting future and the eve universe will gain a much broader fanbase where many people will only engage with one part of it. Even if someone only ever played Legion then they are still part of the universe, an exciting prospect. I drain ducks of their moisture for sustenance. |

Well, I don't think it'll be something as massive as Facebook, considering the consensus is that Facebook is filled with mentally challenged people. I avoid facebook as a social gathering spot, but I do have one that I use for my Eve persona...sort of.
I think it will be great if/when they implement all 3 gamestyles into one big sandbox. This is as nice as I get. Best quote ever https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4137165#post4137165 |

Really? Because in my books, CCP has been making all the right decisions. It's just the players that are afraid of change and force CCP to backtrack on those decisions.
We were gonna have corporate briefing rooms where corporations could sit in actual boardrooms with their directorate. We were gonna have player bars, casions, ect...
But now, CCP is returning on that great path again. I can't wait for the day where I can undock from a player carrier in a Valkyrie fighter and swoop down onto the local planet and shoot down a load of Legion players.
The potential is mindblowing when you think about it. |

I think it is more likely that EVE could be the MMO phenomenon that exceeds the longevity of UO.

the blue donut of null will kill this game long before any of that happens. Dust is indicative of this already. Just look at the stats, a single mega corp owns pretty much all the territory, the same is / will soon be true of null and then EvE will suck huge donmkey testes from then on |

People keep complaining about CCP and their past decisions, but I think a lot of the blame lies with the very people complaining.
"Microtransactions," you cry. Considering you're willing to pay a monthly fee just to complain and insult CCP on these forums, it's not really a stretch to think you might be willing to pay for things that actually effect the game.
"Broken promises! CCP Seagull is lying," you wail. Well, here's a guy dreaming big and you're here shouting him down. Who needs to fulfil promises when you're willing to pay just to complain about those promises not being fulfilled?
CCP should start charging a PLEX a month to post on the forums, that might very well double their income. Wolfbane Hauler Inc Looking For Combat And Industrial Pilots |

This one game one universe would be a lot cooler if the game engine itself would allow us to swap in-game between our roles/Games. If it truely came down to legion being good and having an impact on the game world at large, or swapping to fighters and you could play a major role in a big space battle because you was a player and this is where I feel the VR Valkyrie does have to make good with it being a good skill-based game. In eve where you matter also because of numbers and what ship you bring but as a chessplayer even maybe for ground and "space forces later". Maybe its me but to emphasize sov war with all of the games combined is going to be maybe necessary to make the other games feel that they have more of a vital role in the "universe".
Capturing a Titan with legion soliders, begin launched from a super carrier in your coalition from VR to shoot down enemy troop transports... the longterm vision was there in the latest video.. Just how do you even bring something like this together?

I guess if those three go the way of MySpace, ICQ and AltaVista. (yes, a bit of hyperbole here) As for a gaming singularity, isn't there some game with birds that people play? Or is it pigs and farms, I really don't know or care.

as i'm getting older i suddenly understand why old ppl frown at young ppl going all excited about...nothing ;)
CCP may has toyed with this idea on and off since 2007, since EvE was feature complete and they turned towards alternative projects, all failed btw;
BUT
in theory, yea, sure, if, and thats the big IF....you can deliver before the hypetrain moves on.
Look, WIS was cooked up to get on the "Second Live" hypetrain, on the "Entropyia" hypetrain....tell me, did all the predictions about these projects becoming the new virtual reality for everybody become true? Of course not.
Then they wanted (and still WANT) a part of the FtP hypetrain, wanted to combine it with WIS (like SL). That did go well...
Dust was cooked up to get on the Console hypetrain...because the PC is dead....well, that did change fast hm?
Valkyrie was cooked up to get on the VR hypetrain...now, lets take out my crystal ball.
Sure, CCP has to ride the hypewave, because you never know what hype out of 100 will actually yield anything. The problem is that CCP is slow, very slow, to deliver on anything. Hypes seem to pass them by, leaving them with projects that simply don't take off.
There is a saying: its easy to do good once, but difficult to repeat success. |

Yes because CCP have a great track record.
WiS = Fail
Dust = Fail
WoD = Fail
Eve Online = Took 10 years to have 500,000 subs.
Tell us what CCP have done that gives you any confidence that Legion will ever happen, that Valkyrie will be anything other then a arcade game, let only be even mention in the same conversation as Google, Facebook and Twitter..... |
