Good evening,
I have a question regarding Enormous Freight Containers. I understand that these are not secure, and have very low hit points so can easily be destroyed, but if I'm able to launch one into a safe spot can I use this as a place to store items for extended periods of time, say 2-3 days? (provided there's no player interaction with them)
Thanks in advance!

I can't remember if they have a timer on them, or how long it would last, but I would strongly advise against doing it. While it may be at a safe spot, I think they can still be probed out. If you want to store something, even if for a few days, throw it in a station. My twitch stream to help new players: http://www.twitch.tv/biohazrd51

My understanding that the freight containers, like jet-cans are un-probe-able. (Not invisible to d-scan, just can't be zero'd in on via probes) Is this incorrect? |

I could be wrong. I never use containers much. I was more hoping to deter you from using them for storage. I can't think of anyone I've ever come across who has left them unsecured like that.
This may give you some information regarding them. My twitch stream to help new players: http://www.twitch.tv/biohazrd51

I don't think it's possible to scan down freight container (well, other than through d-scan ...), but on the other hand, anything that's not anchored is susceptible to be wiped away and I recall reading a statement from CCP stating that such containers will not remain in space indefinitely anymore as they used to, so in my opinion, you would be playing russian-roulette with your assets.
Edit: Found the announcement from CCP regarding freight containers in space: http://community.eveonline.com/news/news-channels/eve-online-news/disappearing-freight-containers-in-space/
Edit2: Quite probable CCP never wipes containers that haven't been floating in space for many days, though. |

Freight containers are removed daily at downtime.

Yes that is correct you can't probe them down the only way would be to scan someone already there or to use the d-scan and make and make a mid warp bookmark on top of it to warp to.
To the OP:
I would recommend using a mobile depot instead of a container, they stay in space and don't disappear as quick as the containers do.
only downside is they can be probed down but at least they have a reinforce timer so you can get your stuff before they are destroyed. |

Any particular reason for wanting to do so? You can use the contract system to shift items from one toon to another if that is what you are trying to do.

I come across them all the time in wormholes. Haven't tried scanning them so I'll defer to what people say, however, if someone finds them, they can be accessed by anyone, so they're not secure. Also, they pop with one volley.
The question then is, how secure is your safe spot? If it's not an in-line spot, and out of d-scan, then it's probably worth risking if you really need to do so, or are ninja-whatevering for a few days. Just don't be upset if you go to it someday and it's either empty or gone, or that there's someone waiting there to say hello to you. You're young, you'll adjust. I'm old, I'll get used to it. |

It should be virtually impossible to find a safespot unless you can scan it down with probes. Warp speed is so much faster than slowboat that the chances of dropping a bookmark within range are virtually zero. |

That's not true, we spend a good time tracking down a can in a safe spot and were successful doing so by making our own spots and slowboating the last part, if you are determined you will do it. I disagree
