So while mining all by myself the other day, I started to mess around with the scanning feature labeled "Scanners" and can be accessed by pressing ALT+D by default. Yes you all know right?
Well I was messing with the directional scan and noticed a few things. First off is that the direction scan picks up A LOT of nice salvageable wrecks. However in the distance column all I get is a "-" . So what I did was start messing with the values, put in say 14.3 AU at 360 deg and scan with those settings. This would pick up all the wrecks. Then I would change the scan to 10 AU at 360 deg (we are just going to assume I keep it at 360 deg, which I do always) and this still picks up all the wrecks. So now I know that despite the wrecks not having a distance value, they are at most 10 AU away, then I go to 9 AU and all the wrecks go away. Okay so I know the wrecks are located between 10 and 9 AU from my ship.
Now I go to the overlay and look at ALL of anything that is around me. I go and I order them by distance and look for anything this is between 10 to 9 AU away from me. This would work to pinpoint the location right? Wrong. Every time I try this, there is nothing around me that would be in the hypothetical 10 to 9 AU range. So where are the wrecks? How can something be in a place that doesn't exist?
Honestly this has me stumped. A friend suggested deadspace, but I dont know enough about deadspace to know if that is where all my loot is hiding.
Does anyone know what is going on here? Thanks a bunch

They are at the places missions or DED space sites had spawned but are probably gone now

Alright, what I am asking which I just realized I did not correctly make understood is, how can I get to these wrecks. Thanks! |

If they are from now-derezzed sites you are more or less out of luck
This being EvE though, there is always a way
You could use combat probes to scan out any debris left behind (MTUs, lost drones etc) or ships still present and warp to them.
Alternatively, if the system isnt too big, you could spend a couple hours attempting to book mark near to the predicted location by BMing while warping and using the fact EvE operates in 1 second ticks to give you a set number of places to check.
But that would be far too much effort for a bunch of empty wrecks imho "A naughty sarcastic nun that's come to whip me with a ruler." - Domanique Altares "As Ramona previously mentioned, that is correct." --áISD Supogo |

Find out in which direction it is. Make sure you see space anomalies etc by default. The green thingies in space, when activated.
Sit in space, dscan at lower angle. If you manage to point at them within 15 degree you can start.
Switch to a slow warping ship. Open Peoples&Places, Places, move it to a corner of the screen and leave it open. Bookmark your position. Click ADD LOCATION to get ready to create a bookmark. Initiate warp to the celestial. Estimate the distance and create bookmarks in warp, at positions you assume closer to the wrecks. Warp to the bookmarks to determine the closest. Find wrecks on d. Find celestial to warp to, to get closer to the wrecks.
The fact that you can bookmarks in midwarp means you will always find a way to get closer, you just have to create them. Even if there are no celestials around you can use, you can improvise this way.
Good luck, btw. Time is working against you. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4492860 Killmails for Wrecks!! Ganker tears, best tears!

It is easier to use combat probes to locate pilots doing missions, especially for level 4 missions with battleships that have a huge signature. |

Tau is correct on this one. If you want these wrecks OP learn how to scan down mission runners.
*wonders if Suddenly Ninja is still active*
Probably
Or you can join the missions chat channels and offer your salvaging/looting services. Many level 4 runners are always looking for space cleaners.
Scanning them down is much more entertaining. I like the, "Wait? How did you get here?" messages

Unless it has changed, and I don't think it has, you have 2 hours to locate the wreck from the time the ship exploded. That's it. If I run a lot of things in wormholes I time stamp my wrecks and clear them up when done, but if you go over 2 hours they despawn on ya. So you have to be fast.
Wrecks are not scan able with probes which is annoying. 10 years of eve... yea i'm an addict |

But drones are real easy to scan down.
