Edited by: Alessandra Grey on 05/06/2006 23:00:50 F.ex. my sig took about 20 mins in photoshop using a character portrait, a screenshot and adding a little text. Sigs are very easy to make and although mine is very basic, none of them really get much harder, theyre just more time consuming. To do mine, i cut a section of screenshot and resized it to 400x120 in photoshop. Next, took the character portrait, cut a section i wanted, pasted it into photoshop and set the dimensions right. I then set the layers so that the screenshot was on top and the portrait was invisible. I then took the art-history brush at 30% opacity and went over the portrait area (which is why it seems to blend with the screenshot). I then flattened the layers. Next, i opened the text tool and typed out the desired text in two places, then duplicated the layers, changed the color of the text and reduced the font size by 0.1 pt to give it a shadow effect. Once again, flatten the layers. Save the file as a jpeg and set the correct optimization level to get it below 24k and voila! _______________________

I would also recommend that you design your sig. at least twice the size, then reduce the image to the proper dimensions when you are finished. Photoshop does an excellent job of resampling the image when scaling it down. You get a better sharpness and quality of picture if you design it at 2x the dimensions.

Extremely easy to make a sig. Mine is not the best example, but the process is simple. I only work in the free graphics program GIMP, but Photoshop works as well. As Alessandra said, starting with your avatar picture is a good start. Just make sure you get the right size (Referring to the sticky in the Summit as I did is a bad idea, the values there are too big). Otherwise it just comes down to your knowledge of the graphics program to do fades or create text.
Really should redo mine. Had to resize it and it turned out all fuzzy. Should redo the text in a vector program instead, but haven't had time ...

Quote: Signature graphics are permitted, but must follow these guidelines: Signature graphics that may only contain your character name, corporation logo, corporation or personal slogan or other text that is directly related to your in-game persona, or content directly related to EVE Online. All content must be in good taste.
The size limits for signature graphics are as follows:
* Maximum height: 120 pixels * Maximum width: 400 pixels * Maximum file size: 24,000 bytes (not kbytes)
Only one image is allowed to be used in the signature. Images other than the signature image are not allowed to be posted on the forums.

There are a few ways to create signatures.
Character portraits are a favorite amongst all, and including them into the standard size with a background is fairly easy.
Space backgrounds can be done with screenshots or some "Add Noise" in photoshop. (I can do a tut if you wish)
I prefer the grungy abstract backgrounds as seen with my sig.
It takes a little creativity and a little knowhow. A great site for learning photoshop is Good Tutorials.
Read a few of their background tuts and some design tuts and you'll be well on your way.

I made most of mine in Paint.
The animated ones were made in Ulead GIF Editor. I also used the GIMP for resizing.

Huh? Don't you meant "Most of mine that I made, I made in Paint"? Because unless I'm very much mistaken, you didn't make most of yours at all, but rather got them submitted by other players...
Oh, and as Vurg says, "Real men us MS Paint"!
My sig on this forum is pretty basic, just three of my favorite quotes about myself, plus a screenshot of the moderator hijacks I had before they mysteriously disappeared one day (and Chuck Norris, because Chuck Norris should be added to everything), however on my alliance forums and the OOC Forums, I have some pretty cool sigs (Harpy Sig, Roc Sig) based on something Paxtan Staark came up with, he rocks. -------- Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk [04:21:15] Mebrithiel Ju'wien > Nik's bio 4tw btw [07:38:53] Graelyn > Nikolai for Dev 108!

If I had to toss out the biggest piece of advice I can think of for signatures, it's to be creative. If I had 10 ISK for every sig with someone's portrait next to their ship, I'd have a lot of ISK.
That said, if you can find some creative way to present your portrait/a ship, then by all means do so.

Another great source of inspiration is Eve's artwork itself. there's some fantastic artwork design behind this game and a great source of inspiration. I think some of the best artwork and sigs. fit into the theme of Eve and compliment the style. A good question to ask is "How would someone's corporation or character be portrayed in the Eve setting?"
