So there is no way player votes would have the slightest impact on it. That is true... even if no one is expecting the result of it be based only on player votes Therefore it would be a waste of Dev time & effort to tally 100,000 votes up under whatever system they actually made. Rather than simply announce the candidates and let players simply Roleplay their loyalties, beliefs and simply say 'I voted for x' after the election if they want to talk about who they voted for. Since it would have no impact it's not an effective use of Dev time to create a physical voting system. And it has no impact on the story. |

Well, that is true unless those in charge of the story arc elect to involve the player base. One reason to do so is to take that as a general measure of reactive sentiment... that is, how an observer of the developing story feels (or does not feel) motivated by the story, political rhetoric, and their place in the universe.
CCP did do this once, near the beginning of Eve's existence although it took them a whole to sort through the results. I hope they choose to do so again. The problem with slavery is that only half of the manacles are visible. The Holder, supposed master, is equally bound by the gilded chains of privilege and wealth. Sorrowful is the state of humanity, which shall never be free until all share equally in Liberty.

You could do that, except as capsuleers we are a niche voting group who care about vastly different things to planet bound people who are in the majority. Meaning our votes would be based on a totally different criteria and thus obviously not representative. Assuming they even consider us still citizens given the amount of freedom from borders we have. |

Akrasjel Lanate wrote:And a question to older players about last elections, I know there was some king of event done related to it, could you describe it and how can it be improved if they would want to do a similar format.
The event as it were last time was Jonny Damordred's "Why the hell not?" campaign of presidency, where he had a rally day which involved a large number of pilots lagging the hell out of Luminaire trying to blow up the Shiigeru.
Further lagged by a large number of pro Caldari pilots remote repping it.
Further lagged by a smaller number of reckless Federals suicide ganking the Caldari pilots.
Further lagged by the ton of CONCORD these acts generated.
And a lot of chat in local. Fun times.

Except that wasn't really part of the actual lore was it? Just players shooting a structure in space. Since a real attack on the Shiigeru would have most likely resulted in Caldari Prime getting nuked. |

It happened in game, even if the attack was futile it was a player run event (and the only in game event regarding the elections) with a story behind it that facilitated discussion pre and post marker.
Also the attack did pretty minimal damage. It depends on whether you mean "lore" as in "this was a CCP run PF event" or lore as in "I was there."

Yea, Player Run events are different from Live Events. (Though a Live Event can be player run if CCP recognises it as part of the lore, but I don't believe that happened in this case) Hence why there are two entirely separate forum area's for the two types of events.
Meaning it's not a recognised part of EVE's actual history in terms of the storyline, just a 'hey we went and did this thing because game mechanics let us pretend to do it at the time' thing. I mean, standing orders were to nuke the Gallente on the planet if attacked. It just wasn't automated to actually nuke the planet as an actual in game thing, which.... is very fortunate for a great many citizens on said planet. As amusing as it would have been to see all the 'oh *****' when they saw it nuke Caldari Prime because they shot at it.

I'm well aware of the difference. OP asked what the event was, I answered his question.
Though I think you're putting too much stock on the idea that the titan would fire at Caldari Prime, when it was under Caldari occupation... populated with Caldari citizens. But I digress.

Roughly 106,467,000,000,000 (106.476tn) approximately...
and of those... 19,991,000,000,000 (19.991tn) live in the Federation.
and of those... 14,362,000,000,000 (14.352tn) are eligible to vote.
Capsuleers are less than a grain of sand on a beach.
With regards to the elections, I'd love to do something for them, but I'm unsure if we have the bandwidth to be perfectly honest.
I'll speak with a few people next week.

Might is right! I think they have a fair few of those in the real Gal navy also, rather than the tiny amount that turns up in game to allow us to actually have functional game play :) |

Well by that token I want to be able to be an Ishukone Shareholder.
More RP and gameplay integration would be cool. There's plenty of players who claims to be Amarr Holders, Caldari shareholders, or own X planetside assets and companies. It would be cool if that could be more than just words on a screen. |

As long as something happens tbh. Even just a single news post announcing the victory of the candidate would be better than nothing. |

But I would think a few ingame news articles would be great to set the mood a bit before a winner is announced for the elections.
In the past, ingame news articles published by CCP were usually a nice catalysator to energize RP/actions from certain groups & blocs, which in turn makes eve feel more alive in the end.

I would very much like to get involved on the player-side of any RP activity surrounding the Gallente Federation, whether it's stirring the pot by throwing my character's weight behind a certain candidate, or running in the election or whatever.
I've been putting a few (minor) things into action on the player side, but RL has kept me out of the game a lot more than I want these past two weeks.

Bad enough the federation is threatened by "one of those" politicians who will be putting "what you are" ahead of capability. We've have enough of that crap in RL we don't need it here.
