Team Papercuts are here to tell you about themselves and about a pretty amazing list of things they made in a short amount of time for Crucible, the upcoming Winter Expansion.
I invite you to feast your eyes on their blog which is here, and to leave your questions and comments right here in the thread as always. CCP Guard | EVE Community Developer |

Hooray for Team Papercuts! That's some good changes and it's good to know the Altanta office is still up and functioning (extremely well it seems) after the layoffs recently.
I think you should have plumped for something different from Papercuts though, people might get confused with Team BFF's 1000 Papercuts project. Team Atlantis as a pun on the location? |

Absolutely awesome stuff. These sorts of quality of game/life things really make a huge difference to the player experience.
Couple of questions: - Will plotting routes with the autopilot now include jump bridges? - Will it be possible to reconnect to drones even if you leave system (or dock in a station) and come back? What about carriers - can they reconnect to fighters off-grid?
CCP, please put these guys on EVE full time. The UI would love you long time, and so would the players. |

Sorry, autopilot routes will not include jump bridges. I looked into what that would take briefly and decided that it fell a little too far outside the scope of what our team was trying to tackle.
Reconnect to drones requires you to be on-grid with the drones in question. You can reconnect after leaving system, docking, re-logging or otherwise abandoning them... the only caveat is that you are in the same ship that launched them to begin with. |

I am one of CCPs harshest critics, but this is great stuff. Nerfing supers is not going to help the N+1/Blob problem. It will just mean that superpilots will be even more likely to want to blob. Think more creatively. Support the idea of a subcap "assault bomber." |

Oh my god this is awesome. It really feels like CCP is putting all steam behind FIS with this expansion. I love the freedom given to each individual developer to fix little things, too. I doubt any other developer would give this much freedom to its workforce. It's exactly the approach that makes the most "sense" to me... the kind of thing you'd do if you could allocate programming tasks for the playerbase.
Thank you CCP!

That would be good if auto-loot auto stacks everything as well. Sux when i get to the container in space where I dump loot to find that I can't even sort the stuff because the container is "too full to move stuff" what a load of crap. It's all in there, it just needs to be reordered not removed and relocated.
Another neat feature would be in the fitting window, when you drag another item into a slot that's occupied that it would SWAP with the dragged item...IE dragged item goes into the slot, the item currently in the slot goes wherever you just dragged the other item from...Seems simple...but yet...it has never been done...wtf? |

Awesome job guys!
And what-kind of greedy, eve-player would I be without asking for my own special fix to something that bothers me?
You know how when you're in the middle of a mission, rocking-away, blowing-up those nasty rats, getting shot-at, and those little dmg reports come popping-up in the middle of your screen?
They're kinda in the way, and they don't last long-enough to even see what kind-of dmg you're doing most of the time (especially if there are lots of rats shooting-at you).
How hard would it be to make the dmg reports have thier own window, and remain as a scrollable list, so you can look through and see what kind-of changes there are too your dmg as you change direction, range, ammo, TC scripts, speed, etc.? If you wanted to get really slick with-it, you could insert a "break" between shots when you change-stuff, that tells you what changed so you could compare the dmg diff when changing stuff. You could also separate the incoming dmg, and changes (turning-on/off hardeners etc) into it's own tab/window. This way you could select which reports you see, or close them all-out if you just don't care. |

This way you could select which reports you see, or close them all-out if you just don't care. we already have this: accessories -> log keeps track of all notification events |

Not only for this 3-week period's job, but also for proving to your managers how much can be achieved within little time with too few people. Wish they didnt go for many many millions of stupid things over last couple of years and spend lots of resources for nothing.
I hope someone responsible for all the bad work done on EVE ( or neglecting EVE for other games ) is reading this, and they have ability to understand that How many wonderful things can be done in how little time period. Just open your minds like this little much, assign a couple of guys like these to do these kinds of stuff for a few monts -not years- and EVE will start to improve like old times and you will leech all the money you ever want, not over some stupid vanity things but over really cool things that will make EVE a better place for everyone. |

Hey there,
It's behavior is the same as if you were to select all the icons manually and drag them. As with dragging, the items are not sorted, it just attempts to move them in random order. I actually suggested trying to sort them by meta-level and loot them in that order, but that did not make it in for both technical and game design reasons, and y'know, just 3 weeks to get everything out :-)

I think Team Papercuts needs to persist and be a permanent part of the CCP organization. Any Dev can sign up for a 3 week stint in it. They go in, do fixes that can be done in 3 weeks, then go back to their normal team. Make it say a three person team, one of which is replaced each week from the sign-up list. This way we get a continuous stream of these little fixes. After all, they seem to have the biggest impact to the player base. CCP employees should never proclaim a feature to be awesome. Only subscribers should. Subscribers can never answer a question posed to CCP. Only CCP can. |

I think there's something to this statement. New features are nice and all, but these kinds of quality of life changes NEED to take precedence. Honestly, what took so long? Continue these kinds of things as major press items and instead of having threadnaughts based on how stupid a particular feature is or how NOT well thought out it is, we can have tons of people complementing developers that responsible for some of the most intuitive changes to date.
Like another poster, I would like to retain the camera panning ability as a part of the advanced camera menu. It shouldn't pan unless you specify that you want the advanced camera options.

Can you see if you can add in where if you set a course between systems that while browsing the market, if one of the systems shows up on your route that it is displayed as blue = on route red = far away? There's nothing more annoying than trying to plot a route which says it's 3 jumps away, but in the opposite direction... in a freighter.
Kinda how way points are displayed.

I have one small request for people who are looking at little details that can be fixed.....
Keyboard focus in Eve is sorely lacking. If I pull up People and Places, the keyboard focus should be in the "search" box automatically, rather than having to click there.
I think that it'd be safe to say that when you pull up ANY window that has a search textbox, keyboard focus should go to that textbox.
I've been wishing for this for ages, and it seems to fit the model of "quick fixes" that you folks are working on right now.... |

I'll try and test it.
Thanks for the head's up. We'll ensure this gets tested. If you can reproduce it or encounter it again, please don't hesitate to file a defect as well. Currently on TQ, if you recall your drones but warp off before they've reached you, then you'll still be linked to them even though you're off grid. They'll still just sit there, but if you return to grid you can give them commands again.
I don't know if that was a bug or feature, but I suspect this might be what is preventing you from scooping some drones that look like they're abandoned. |

I think you should have plumped for something different from Papercuts though, people might get confused with Team BFF's 1000 Papercuts project. Team Atlantis as a pun on the location?
We picked papercuts specifically for this reason. We were taking items from the list that BFF gave us, and grinding out as many as we could. More or less, this WAS the papercuts project, just loaned to our group for a while. |

Great job CCP team! These are definitely some much-needed improvements. I noticed that you fixed some issues with the drones. Another issue I have seen is that sometimes the drones will disengage an active target and start attacking another target. You have to continually tell them to attack the currently engaged target. Is this something that will be fixed in the future? |

Though, is there any way we could get pan-to-target back as something that a person might do on purpose?
And that's really only a very small part of what needs to be done in the realm of camera control.
I'm going to disagree with all these folks, though. You did a great job. Please go back to what you're doing and keep playing EVE. If you worked on EVE full-time, we all know you'd end up like those hopeless squares in Team BFFs.
But maybe we can do this again sometime.
When I reviewed the auto-pan functionality, I found several broken cases. Sometimes it would never auto-pan to a target, even if you hovered deliberately. The delay was also huge, which personally gave me the feeling auto-pan wasn't related to the target icons.
Sorry to those folks who actually knew the tricks to make it work. It was fairly broken anyways, and it seemed cleaner for MOST people to just remove the feature.

Here are my niche suggestions:
1. Allow us to group different types of drones together in the drone window! I don't know just how many people it would affect, but I have had certain situations where that would have saved me a lot of clicking.
2. Could you possibly give us a small feature that might allow us to transfer drone control to another player as long as they have sufficient drone bay capacity to actually recall them? Losing your drones sucks. Having to dock up or have someone abandon some just to get more is a minor annoyance, but an annoyance nonetheless.
3. Can you take a quick look at why drones keep dropping your commands just after they pop something? Far too often have I assigned my drones a new target only to see 2-3 of them either go idle after I issue the command if they're on passive, or choose a different target if they're on aggressive. I assume that the problem lies with EvE waiting a certain amount of time after a target is destroyed to issue drones the new default command. Could you decrease that time or remove it altogether? Since you actually play EvE, I pray that one of you is a drone boat fan and shares my pain. I know many others do...
Can you tell I like drone boats?
4. Could you possibly add the ability to pre-activate non-offensive modules while cloaked? Similar to how you can prep your Siege Missile Launchers or Target Painters, could you also allow us to prep, say, a Damage Control or Sensor Booster? Emphasis on the Sensor Booster. I mean like...EXTREME emphasis on the Sensor Booster. And propulsion modules.
This is my wishlist for the incredible Team Papercuts. |

Words cannot describe this. Most devblogs don't or at best indirectly affect me. Literally almost every point mentioned in this blog directly affect me in an unambiguously amazing way.
I have three questions: 1.) will corp hangars and whatnot stay open between gate jumps as well as docking and undocking?
2.) does the loot all button go to your cargo hold all the time? or does it keep track of the 'active' (last thing put into ship maybe?) window?
3.) Jumpbridges holy ****. Are they included in the route planner (not AP, but if you want to optimize a route with waypoints or some such)?
[I would assum AP would just stop in the system where the bridge was, but then again who uses AP in null sec?]
Regardless of the answer to these questions this is just too awesome! |

If these changes only took 3 weeks and 4 people, why didn't they happen years ago? It's common knowledge that EVE's UI is unintuitive, which directly steers new players away and loses money. Sometimes I swear y'all ain't got a lick of sense between ya... |

Excellent stuff.
While we're on drone updates would it be difficult to add hotkey functionality to right click drone bay context menus?
Right click launch, right click return to drone bay would be much handier if I could slap them on hotkeys next to "Kill them my robots!". This would streamline drone use in missions and perhaps increase drone use in fleet battles where those menus are often forgotten ( and fiddly ) |

GREAT CHANGES
Though i wish you would also consider... Please consider a change of "show alliance jump bridges" to "show available jump bridges" and show all bridges that you have access to that way it will show also your coalition jump bridges for any pos thats available to your character > neutral to you and will allow you to jump via it...
perhaps a way to do this and also alow for secret bridges at a later date would be the ability to add a check to the bridge's control panel to "hide from non-alliance maps" ... but thats sorta overkill... honestly if i can jump through it it would be nice to know about it...

Totally awesome ppl - you have done us proud
I would have a favor to ask though, could you take a look at the possibility of assembling and fitting ships (already owned and in hanger) with mods and charges (also in hanger) via the saved fitting screen.
Here is how I think it could work: FC want all his ppl in Rokhs with T2 Smartbombs and hull buff tanking for this special mission. He sends out the fitting and tells ppl to turn up in that. Fleet member who has just got in from work (done his honey-do list) and can spend some relax time pew-pewing wants to jointhe fleet thats leaving in 10min.
Not a prob, as the saved fitting sent out by the FC has a "compile ship" button and the ship and mods are magically slung together and he is ready for the fray, complete with the charges loaded.
Sounds to me like this is what they would do in the future - and so what I would like to know is how hard would that be to put together I am aware of my own ignorance, and painfully aware of yours |

Impressive..
My thoughts exactly. I saw a repeated theme with team papercuts; "I saw it was broke or needed improving, so I just "Took the initiative and FIXED IT!" Wow, what a concept! Perhaps this mentality should be adopted overall in CCP? Cause there's still plenty of little things still left that need tweeks/fixing, i.e. passive targeters, defender missiles, windows still jumping around at random, pinning/unpinning at random, etc.
Awesome work for just 3 weeks! Proves what you can accomplish when you put your mind to it!

So I'm guessing this won't be fixed?! This is a big frown... Now I'm going to need to manually set look at other targets :( Otherwise I'm just staring at my ship.
Currently, I can just hover the mouse over the 1st locked target spot and cycle guns. I get a nice view of the target. When it pops ... Just cycle gun hotkey and watch the next Sansha melt.
...No chance on getting a options toggle for the current operation? You know for those of us using and enjoying it as is?

Team Papercuts seems to be tasked more towards improvements that generally have a practical use and while it has some small merits, it doesn't really serve a practical purpose when you can simply zoom your camera in with both mouse buttons already.
I doubt they'll implement the feature, much like some of my suggestions, because they're for a small niche of players.
I would, however, like for them to respond about my suggestion for fixing the broken drone controls. Giving commands is a serious pain when they keep dropping orders, and it's a very well-known problem amongst the Gallente pilots in particular. |

Checked into this real quick and we do have a precedent for interacting with objects via bookmark with station bookmarks allowing you to Dock. The problem for your request in particular is that bookmarked wormholes don't actually seem to be bookmarking the wormhole itself. It seems to be creating a generic bookmark at the location of the wormhole instead.
I suspect it has to do with the nature of wormholes disappearing. I don't know the bookmark system at all, and 5 minutes of poking around didn't reveal anything in particular.
I would recommend adding this feature request to the new small things thread. This would be a really good future papercut. |

This - but make it a proper padlock view option with keys for On/Off, Next/Prev friendly/enemy etc. (like every other flight sim in existence already had from the start)?
Might be very little work to modify the old behaviour (or might not) - are they already out of time for changes now anyway?

CCP Anthelios - Awesome job on the drag to link in chat consistency, needed for a long time. Market quickbar awesomeness with fittings, I may actually use that feature a lot more now. Drag selecting, yummy! And rearranging target Icons!!!! WTF, you are a God sir!
CCP Space Cadet - Orbiting ranges based on ship type! W00t!!!!! I LOVE this fix. No more rotating my view to a ship I happened to hover over, Damn, that's been bugging me for a while (YEARS) now. And keeping those pesky bays open when I dock the Orca is pure, unadulterated WIN, baby!!
CCP Booster - I have no words, my friend. You have just implemented the things that make the boring part (salvaging and looting) of Mission-Running, and cleaning up after a large PvP battle soooo much faster and easier. You are my hero.
CCP Soulblighter - What a great fix for us CEO's and Directors (not this toon, obviously). unrenting offices in far away or dangerous space was always a hassle. Thanks for a great idea implemented! And jump bridges, Yay!
And to the whole team on the last bunch of fixes - THIS IS WINNING, Winning the hearts and minds of the eve players.
Undoubtedly the BEST Devblog ever posted by CCP about Eve. Yes, the features are all small, low-hanging fruit, but to BORROW 4 guys from the WOD team and get this much done in three weeks!!! OMGWTFPWN!!!
I will not be unsubbing any of my four accounts over THIS expansion. Thank you CCP, Thank You Team Papercuts

Sorry to those folks who actually knew the tricks to make it work. It was fairly broken anyways, and it seemed cleaner for MOST people to just remove the feature. With this feature gone, is there a way to "look at" something without resetting the camera? My problem with the current "look at" box is that I can't figure out how to get the camera back where it was before, rather than just reseting it to very-close and then needing to manually adjust.
A better solution might be a "quick look" button on the overview selection panel: hold down your mouse on the button, and you get the same functionality as auto-pan. Release, and it immediately reverts back to whereever it was.

This^
...and especially the bolded text to help keep the 'papercuts' changes fresh. I'm sure every dev that plays eve will have a different focus and ist of gripes they'll want to address, this idea will help no-end with distributing these changes throughout the player experience.

I'll try and test it.
Daedalus Arcova wrote: Currently on TQ, if you recall your drones but warp off before they've reached you, then you'll still be linked to them even though you're off grid. They'll still just sit there, but if you return to grid you can give them commands again.
I don't know if that was a bug or feature, but I suspect this might be what is preventing you from scooping some drones that look like they're abandoned.
An update on this issue: Thanks to both of you, we have tracked down and can now reproduce this defect. The fix should be straight-forward, but we want to ensure it doesn't cause unnecessary fallout. Because it's a more of an annoyance rather than a game crushing issue, we won't rush out the change until after Crucible is released. This will give us time to properly test it.
Again, thanks for the help! It's very much appreciated.

While we're on drone updates would it be difficult to add hotkey functionality to right click drone bay context menus?
Right click launch, right click return to drone bay would be much handier if I could slap them on hotkeys next to "Kill them my robots!". This would streamline drone use in missions and perhaps increase drone use in fleet battles where those menus are often forgotten ( and fiddly ) They already have these, except for the "launch" option. I use "Return and Orbit", "Return to Drone bay", and "Engage" shortcuts quite often (though, as with an earlier poster, I wish mixed drones (e.g. Hornet EC-300's and Hammerhead II's) would just engage as they think best rather than complain that they don't get along and will only do what I say if I address them separately. A launch shortcut key would be...nearly useless, unless you could set multiple launch hotkeys, one for each Drone folder you have (e.g. "Light - Explosive" folder is CTRL+L and "Light - ECM" folder is CTRL+E). For smaller drone bay ships a general launch button would probably work, but we Gallente pilots cry for you anyways. ;) |

First off: Wow - thank you so much!
What I think should be noted about Team Papercuts is that
1) They FIXED STUFF 2) They fixed stuff WITHOUT BREAKING other stuff (practically every other dev blog - sorry rest of CCP) 3) They were EXCELLENT at customer service - any issues brought up were line item addressed FAST and replied to here with details!!
Holy $h-it, you guys may have beat out Team BFF and the Art Department for title of best team this year - sersiously.
You guys ROCK and I am sure you have noticed - EVERYONE feels this way.
Please come back from time to time in EVE if you can!
Like one poster said, there are some free beers waiting for you guys at fanfest or if I spot you at a bar in Atlanta.
Cheers! |

I brought up 5 incredibly crucial suggestions, all of which got ignored and many after me were responded to instead.
I like these devs, they've done more in 3 weeks(based on importance) than CCP has ever done in half a year during my EvE experience. But I'm slightly irked at getting ignored like that. Seriously, that drone commands problem is a HUGE problem that irritates a lot of people.

Quote:YouGÇÖll also find a couple of drone improvements on the way. Nothing is worse than warping off to find that youGÇÖve forgotten your precious drones. Well, fret no more! You can now reconnect to lost or abandoned drones that have been left behind as long as youGÇÖre still in the ship that launched them. Right clicking on your ships right-click menu, youGÇÖll now find a command to Reconnect to Lost Drones. Alternately, if you like keyboard shortcuts, you can map a key to this as well. In order to prevent this from being completely abused and used for evil, youGÇÖll only be able to reconnect once a minute (this time is subject to change) and if you have more drones around than you have the ability to control at once, you get no say over which ones will come back under your controlGǪ so when youGÇÖre attempting to reconnect, make it count!
YouGÇÖll also find that when your ship is forced to make an emergency warp, your drones will attempt to return to the drone bay before you take off. Hopefully this can save you a few drones when your cat walks across the power strip.
The reconnect to lost/abandon drones is okay with me as long as you have to be on grid with the drones.
If it is not, players will likely exploit this feature.
ie, Ishtar pilot or any other drone using ship type who relies on his drones to kill his prey until he can get close enough engages a target he thinks he can take down, and suddenly others come to assist his prey so he warps off to a SS and recalls his main weapon, his drones. There are some tactics where running an attacking drone user off and making him leave his drones makes him less of a threat and a bit easier to kill in the immediate future.
You don't fill our cargo bays when we run out of ammo do you?
Being on-grid to recall his drones is only fair.

Now, can I put you in charge of ensuring that this patch doesn't break my overview?
I mean seriously, it's happened often enough that several of my friends think there should be one person whose SOLE job in the company is making sure patches don't break overviews. We're sick of having to reset everything every time we undock. |

Chicken Pizza wrote:Here are my niche suggestions:
Sorry Chicken Pizza, Papercuts members are not trying to ignore you, but the team is basically "done" with the list we set out to accomplish. Anything else we do is just trying to make sure that the items on our list are polished, working, and not breaking something else.
As for item 3 in your list: Have you tried changing your drone setting, and activating "Focus fire"? I also hot-key the drone command "Engage Target" and keep pushing it until it works. Not the "best" solution but it serves.
The other 3 entries are basically new features, and we won't be around to work on them, sorry. |

That's awesome work, guys
CCP should have a small team like yours, but a permanent one, which just took small usability changes one after one... I'm sure the community could supply a long list of small changes that could be easy to implement, and collectively would provide a usability boost far beyond the resources required to actually do them. A clear example is the drone reconnect change you just did.
My own pet annoyance are the mission nebulae, which are so bright you can't see anything else on the screen... Feel free to implement a gamma button for those |

Pretty sure that has been addressed in other threads, but the loot all button is on the container window once it is open and essentially functions as though you selected everything and dragged it to your cargo hold. I can't bypass passwords (because you had to know the pw to open the can) , or agro timers. If you're going to be stealing when attempting to loot all, you'll get the warning about stealing as well. |

Welcome back from the (World of) dark ages CCP.
Excellent job - these are really nice changes.
Three things CCP should note:
1. The CCP effort to player happiness ratio on such small changes like these are really high. THIS IS WAS A GOOD IDEA. 2. Let the devs loose some times to do their own thing - many of them have great ideas, just waiting to come out. 3. Dev responses here - even if it was "sorry, we -can't figure out how/have time to- implement your awesome idea" - wasn't met by rage. Players are generally happy if they at least get some idea why stuff can't be done. Rage only ensues if we are left in the dark and neglected.
Really looking forward to this expansion.

It's not that we don't care or that we're ignoring any of the multitude of new feature requests in this thread. It's that this team just can't address them as we're quite literally out of time. We're finished with any new Eve feature work, and are going back to WoD full time once Crucible ships and it's clear we didn't totally break the game.
If you want to ensure they're being accounted for, try posting in this thread. Soundwave and Team BFF should be able to help get that taken care of moving forward. After all.... they were original papercuts team before we stole their thunder. |

While the above is understood, I'm still trying my luck with a (hopefully) little and easy thing.
Would it be possible to make it so that if you have a wreck open with items inside it and it gets salvaged, the resulting cargo can opens automatically if it's within range?
Whether or not the above is possible at this point, my thanks for the excellent work you all have done!

We didn't mean to ignore you, but we're past the point in the development cycle where we're allowed to add any new functionality. We're pretty much looking for posts requiring clarification or that have spotted bugs in the things we've already done.
Please, please, please make sure that you post your feature requests in the relevant feature request threads so we may have a chance to get to them in the future :)

On that note however, I would love it if you could assign a hotkey to loot all the items without even opening the wreck or container as long as you had it selected in the selected items list. On top of that, maybe add another button in the selected items list on a container and wreck and make it a loot all button there as well. Regardless, all of this is extremely splendid and you guys have accomplished in weeks to what it seems like others have accomplished in months (Not discrediting anyone, I swear :P).

Wouldn't it been easy to have a checkbox "use alliance JB or not" in the auopilot settings ???
or was it too difficult due to the fact of calculating the route?
what was the issue in that not being done?

I just hope CCP notices how much people love, and how much Eve needs, such a happy flow of continuing little changes. Look at how easily these guys really did steal BFF's thunder. It's funny but it's also an ugly truth the way they wrote "Revolutionary right!?" in the blog.
So many good things... the orbiting change (thank you finally!) and drones and the icon dragging (thank you finally again!) and the drag-to-select functionality.... so good. SO overdue. Years and years and years! And now their 3 weeks are up and those guys are gone again. :(
So if CPP just employed 1 guy to do this job, every couple of months we'd see similar glee? Please recognise how great that is CCP. That employed guy wouldn't even have to think of things to do, the players have plenty of low fruit to point to. And suddenly a month from now.. the red webbed speedometer? Done. Hotkey closing on mission popups? Done. Hold Ctrl to loot-all with the Selected Item button? Done. One month later... less pointless error messages when fitting? Done. Personal orders appearing in blue on the market? Done. Ammo included in fitting saves? Done. One month later... visual cues for orbiting, ranging and approaching? Done. Dialogs not stealing focus? Done. Passive targeters corrected? Done. Repositioning guns in fitting without error popups? Done. Show info hotkey? Done. Market details hotkey? Done. And etc and etc and etc, month after month.
Every one of these things would be met with glee.
Anyway good work Team Papercuts. Thanks for giving us something we can point to and say "This. This is what we like!" |

Pure Awesomeness!
Here are some things still to do, i f you still have the time, pretty please: - Add "promote to waypoint" option in the autopilot GUI, preveting this stupid "add to waypoint"->F10->AP->waypoints->optimize->F10 madness, drives me crazy always. - Add a corphangar/shipbay icon please to selected appropriate ships, so we can open an orca's corp hangar or SMB just like a can in space. Makes it a lot easier and straightforward - Could the "Loot everything" button have a shortcut please? Like Y-clicking it, or something (pressing a button + click on it) - JB routes: Could we please have on some level allies' JBs as well? Like we have a couple of blues down there and we're always using each others' JBs, every time. Maybe needs some criteria. - Can we (=jump capable pilots) have an addition icon to fleet members who have an actively running cyno? Maybe hot buttons on his face to jump/JB to him. - Default chatwindow preferences? When i get a new convo, i always have to adjust the input box's size and switch to no-icon lines.
Nice job done so far, please don't stop. I vote for keeping you here and continuing your work on Small Gods :)

These are the most exciting features since I started playing EVE!! Yes, I'm serious. No new ships or anything else is going to top that. Usability and the little things are what counts for me to play EVE more often. Great job so far, even if the UI itself has still some serious flaws, it's getting better with these kind of things! The feature where drones attempt to return to you is only in effect if you emergency warp (i.e. you disconnect). If you're disconnected, we'll essentially issue a 'recover drones' commend in an attempt (note: they may not make it back in time!) to save your drones before you e-warp. This doesn't apply to player-initiated warps.
Regardless, you will now also be able to reconnect to your drones if you accidentally leave them behind an return to the grid they are on. A very cool feature.... Engineering Manager CCP NA |

Flyby scoops are still possible. If you're in range already, nothing new happens. It'll approach if you're out of range to open the can. |

Ok, another post from me in this (What is soon to be a historical love thread)...

Hopefully Soulblighter won't have to correct me, but I understand it like this:
If you are not in range, you will approach the can, and open it. If you are already in range, your fly-by will not be interrupted.
Since you're doing a relatively complicated maneuver, you will occasionally experience hiccups. The old hiccup would've been "I missed that can". The new hiccup will be "whoops, missed it, now I'll turn around and go back".
[EDIT] HAH, Soulblighter is faster than me. |

Wouldn't it been easy to have a checkbox "use alliance JB or not" in the auopilot settings ??? or was it too difficult due to the fact of calculating the route? what was the issue in that not being done? im curios :)
Adding a checkbox is easy. It's making the checkbox do something new that is the hard part
Granted, even in this case I don't think it would be very hard. But it would require a better understanding of the autopilot code than I posses, which means that I would have to spend time getting familiar with the system, track down potential edge cases with injecting a new connections with a new connection type into the map data set that autopilot uses to find the shortest route for you. There's a lot of caching of data that happens with map information since there is so much of it, so the idea of screwing with that took the task from an easy addition to a potentially risky feature, in so far as there could be unforeseen fallout with other map features.
Add in the fact that we're talking about feature creep, and my time starts to look like it could be better spent implementing something that benefits more people and causes less potential fallout.
That said, this is the kind of thing BFF should be able to take on no problem since they'll be around to support it. I suggest you post it in the new "small things" thread that's currently stickied in General Discussion if it's not there already. |

I guess I'll reserve final judgement until I actually try it out, but since a missed can would mean I had to select the act for it to tell me "out of range" I won't know I'm changing alignment until I'm actually turning around and that might be a bad thing. Food for thought.

Being a programmer myself, I'm really impressed you pull all that off in just tree weeks. Especially considering that you were maybe not as familiar with the EVE codebase anymore, since you were working on WoD.
Yes, even if the UI uses the core library (carbon), I suppose you still have to find out how to do the "go there, and THEN do that" stuff (warp 'n jump) and finding/reconnecting to drones on grid.
Is there any chance of you staying in the EVE team for a bit longer and doing some more long-overdue UI tweaks? Like....completely re-doing the corp interface for example? |

Awesome changes.
On the same note as the "activate acceleration gate" change, is there any chance of jump queuing with stargates upon exiting warp? For example, it's common for pilots to start hammering on the "jump" button as soon as they start coming out of warp on top of an acceleration gate when warping to zero, only to receive an error message along the lines of "You cannot do that while warping." Due to occasional delays in server/client synch, it sometimes even takes a couple of seconds after the "warp drive active" message disappears before you jump. It would be nice to just have to click the jump button once, and have the jump operation queue up to execute automatically as soon as your ship leaves warp, similarly to the way autopilot will ensure you automatically jump if you're in range of the gate.
Also, having to reselect an item from the overview to reenable the command buttons is quite irritating. For example, if you have a station selected in the overview and you are about to click on the "warp to zero" button, if you lose your ship before selecting the button you have to select something else in your overview and then reselect the station because the buttons deactivate when you enter your pod - this often adds a few extra seconds of delay which can spell the difference between getting podded or getting away safely. The interface shouldn't need to disable the active overview buttons just because you've lost your ship. |

Ever thought about adding the options to have a button for capital ships.
Rorqual - Ship Maintenance Bay - Corporate Hangar - Ore Bay
The button would be just like the "Open Carghold" button, only for other spots to stash sh*t at. It's rather annoying to have to right click, find the damn link, click it, and then go do what you wanted to do.

I agree with this Dziu. More options with this would be nice, also changing systems/docking shouldn't remove all the information. |

for the "auto-panning was broke so it's gone" thing was it the whole thing that was broke or just detecting *when* to pan? Could it just be a new button/menu option (next to 'look at,' have 'look towards') instead of auto? While I didn't use the auto-pan often (as it generally only worked when I *wasn't* trying to look at things) I always wished it were more predictable as it was a nice way to sort out just where specific things had gone to (rather than having to pan the camera around myself hunting for the right little icon at the screen edge).
Great stuff though, especially drag-select. |

Even better than letting those with the "Rent office" role unrent them, the absence of which I'd often cursed. Thanks

The 4 people credited in this devblog are all programmers, who did code work, but for all the changes we cranked out, one single superhero had to QA every feature, about half a dozen times PER FEATURE.
Sadly, this message will get lost to many, since it's on page 17 of the thread, but if everybody could send some thanks towards CCP Conrad, that would be awesome.
Thanks guys!

The button would be just like the "Open Carghold" button, only for other spots to stash sh*t at. It's rather annoying to have to right click, find the damn link, click it, and then go do what you wanted to do.

This sounds very cool. I have to deal with the same issue often enough.
However, sadly, as we have mentioned in this thread several times, we are only loaners. We're swooping in, making small fixes, enjoying tons of credit and player-praise, and running back to other CCP projects.
You should head to the Ideas Forum and post your requests there. I know that MANY of the items we worked on were harvested from the forums by Team BFF.
We have greatly enjoyed stealing their thunder, but a lot of the credit still goes to them. They assembled the list of things we fixed. |

This is saddening indeed. I usually always have focus fire on, actually. I was hoping there may have been some small fix that could have gone into it, as spamming the hotkey is...well, it's a hassle! I can live without the other suggestions I made, but that one is my absolute biggest pet peeve in this entire game. It makes ordering drones around a very slow and tricky process.
Thank you for the response, though. Problem solved or not, that's all I really needed from you in particular.

Seriously, that drone commands problem is a HUGE problem that irritates a lot of people. INB4 butthurt YES I'm severely butthurt at the moment. EDIT: See? Someone just complained about it above me. Does the anomaly despawn affect anomalies that have been ran in w-space?
This affects me as I will be able to sit cloaked in my ambush spot in an anomaly, whilst waiting for a lovely Noctis to appear without worrying that they will know I am there because the anomaly has not despawned yet.
And am REALLY looking forward this Expansion! My missus thinks of EvE as 'the other woman'. :) |

This change only effects your ability to prevent the site from successfully despawning, allowing another site to be spawned in the system after the appropriate timers are up.
The wrecks should stick around until they time out naturally so this shouldn't prevent you from preying on anyone foolish enough to bring an unescorted Noctis to a gun fight |

team papercuts, if you have time can you find a solution to the alphabetical sorting of roman numerals? it doesn't make sense, if you use roman numerals to order planets, they should display in order, not alphabetically!
the point being, having planet/moon 9 appear between planets/moons 4 and 5 is silly. as well as planets/moons 10-19 appearing between planets/moons 1 and 2. |

While I recognize that you guys still have a lot to do, and time is very short, I would still like to recommend three changes I would like to see.
1. Could you guys tweak the orientation of the stargates so they aren't all on a single plane? Eve is a three-dimensional game, proudly at that, and looking at the star map it's easy to see if a system is above or below you. Is this something that could be done?
2. Also regarding stargates, would it be possible to add a separate effect for incoming ships rather than using the same effect for both incoming and outgoing. Something that looks like the gate is actually capturing an incoming ship?
3. Could you smooth out the way ships warp? It just seems kind of weird that you have to accelerate to close to your full speed before your warp engines can kick in, but when they do your ship momentarily stops before going into warp. If a ship starts warp from a standstill, why do we have to accelerate too close to our maximum velocity? Could it just rather accelerate directly when it reaches the speed necessary to reach warp?
I know you guys are pretty busy, and likely won't even see this post, but I just think these are three things that should have been done long ago. Just my humble opinion.
After having spent some time on Singularity the last few days, I'm liking what I'm seeing in this expansion. I'm very glad to see that some things that have needed changes for years are finally getting some attention. And that all my blaster and railgun training wasn't a complete waste. |

Great blog and bar the removal of the mouseoverlookat feature it all looks pretty awesome, probaly steals ahead of new backgrounds as my fav incoming feature/change please CCP do this every expansion, either with these guys or as others have suggested let devs working on other stuff volunteer for a tour at the papercuts desk.
And a small side note to those griping about their drones not working right, turn on focus fire, set to passive and don't issue a new command to them after a target dies untill you see the first of them go Idle (usually within1-3 seconds of target popping) and they'll be perfectly behaved 99% of the time. (At least for me this works) It seems when they pop something drones need to get out of their attack cycle before they can accept another command, if you send the command the moment the ship pops you 'catch' the last couple of drones that'd fired but miss a couple others that were just about to fire prior to target exploding and are still getting out of their attack cycle, yes I'd love to see this work perfectly so you could send drones onwards instantly but a fraction of patience makes it work pretty well without need to spam engage. |

Awesome work team Papercuts!
Now, I've played about on SiSi and noticed what might be a bit of a usability issue with the "jump" command. I misclicked and hit the wrong stargate by mistake and clicked jump, then realised what I'd done wrong but too late to cancel warp. I didn't appear to get an opportunity to cancel the jump at all. I'd suggest having the jump icon highlight and actually be a toggle while you're en route; same for dock I guess. EVE Radio, bringing music to the masses; http://eve-radio.com

CCP Conrad and CCP Soulblighter have identified and fixed this issue. You will now able to prevent jumping (or docking at at station) while in warp using the current method of stopping your ship (for example, cntl-space). We are a little late to get the UI change in, but I'll make sure it's passed onto the Eve designers. It's a neat idea.
Thanks again.

This is a really good idea. Gives people an option to work on a pet project, or a pet peeve.

great stuff, and before i get slammed with a forum re-direct....
please make a hot key shortcut to launch drones?
cant be that hard, the function call is already there in a menu, been asked for for years and understandably has always been a low priority.

We are in bugfix-only mode for the moment, but definitely head over to the feature request thread and ask about this there. The new small things request thread There shouldn't be too much trouble adding either of those things I think. You would still need to approach the cans and be in loot range of course :-)
GSimon wrote:Awesome job team papercuts!
One small question: will there be any Hot-key and/or Context menu (on the can) for the "LOOT ALL: button?
This is much nicer than "Select all and drag" method, but opening two dozen cans can slow down the client and therefore makes it harder to remain productive.
Keep up the good work! - GSimon

funny thing is I came in here just now to ask this very same thing.
The problem is launching *which* drones.

Team Papercuts: did you know that if you have a skill partially trained this isn't taken into account in the show info prerequisites tab? For long skills this could make a misleading difference. Evemon can work this out, so should the EVE client! :) |

Quote:Hey all. IGÇÖm CCP Soulblighter...
*snip*
And finally, one of my pet peeves for years now has been that missile launchers donGÇÖt show their range when you mouse over them when using the tactical overlay, so IGÇÖve gone ahead and fixed that for you too. And while I was at it, I did some extra credit and made it so bomb launchers show the explosion radius centered where the bomb is going to land ~30km in front of your ship.
First of all, the fact that any of these small things problems that have persisted in the game are being fixed at all is wonderful despite being overdue in some cases. I hope that CCP keeps this up.
Now for the point of my quotation above, will the missile launcher ranges shown take into account the direction of travel of the ship launching the missiles? Because if the ship is stationary, then you end up with a perfect sphere (like the gun overlays), however for the missiles if your ship happens to be traveling at 1km/s in a straight line, then the actual range at which the missile can still hit a target is shorter in front of the ship and longer behind creating a kind of odd shaped egg. I don't expect this to take into account the subsequent movements of the targeted ship as that also has some effects, but are unpredictable. I had always thought that this was the root reason for why the missile launchers never showed thier ranges on the overlays, because they could become very misleading if you do a simple 'time of flight' times 'speed of flight' calculation without taking into account the speed of the ship launching the missile and the direction the missile is traveling to that ship. |

Ahahah soooo true, very little efforts are needed to make players happy, hopefully CCP has now understood this

Thank you Team Papercuts, I really love UI improvements :)
About the drag and dropable target icons. This feature is very nice, but I noticed that selections done by keyboard shortcuts, "select next target" and "select previous target" still cycles through the icons in order of when they were targeted. So if you arrange your target icons and try to manage target selection stuff without using your mouse, it's rather unpredictable to tell which target will be selected next (unless you have a good memory).
It will be nice if "select next/previous target" will always select the target visually next to the current one :)

Three things ran through my mind as I read this dev blog.
1) CCP is doing all this in 3 weeks? +1
2) CCP has been holding out on us and this makes them look bad. -1
3) CCP is making an effort to tell us the truth or they would have just made the changes and said little. +1
==============
total = +1
- Please make improvements/fixes to the current EVE more often (like the ones in this blog) and add new content less often.

Today, i was joking in my corp's forum about the Crucible Expansion webpage looking more like final patch notes than a feature webpage ... but now i understand and appreciate ... good move !
A good expansion does not necesarily contain a bunch of ground-breaking features (which to my eyes "time dilatation" actually is ......) it could also be crafted from many well thought and long anticipated minor tweaks. The Crucible Expansion has the potential to meet both concepts, some major topline changes/improvement/enrichment of game mechanics and a large collection of tiny improvements, that - taken alone and individual as single change - would not make me play or leave the game but as a collection massively contribute to a positive game experience.
so thanks for Team Papercut ! it seems to pay for CCP to make these rather unusual management decisions.....

Damn, that's really nice, guys...
Looks like small things, but going by how they are an annoyance during game play over and over, they are actually huge improvements....
I had already given up on seeing drone improvements that would matter to the grind...
so, thanks and cheers

What's the range on reconnecting to lost drones? It should probably be the pilots control range or I see this getting abused heavily.
"Also, have you ever been flying along, and your camera randomly rotates to something random off in the distance? You probably hovered over a target icon by accident. That feature is gone now. No more random auto-panning to targets." But I liked this feature. It was useful sometimes.
Other then that, awesome. Some very much needed improvements here. |

Any ideas about organizing your stuff in the hangar? 300 items for R&D and manufacturing with lots of BPC etc (just being able to pile them would be great), anyone? |
