I think that the small and reasonable things campaigns run by the CSM were extremely successful in bringing about positive changes for players. Inspired by these and what I have perceived to be a raise in apathy (and a definite raise in cancelled subs by friends in the game), I asked my self what do they hate about eve so much to make them quit? And thus would like to start a Most Hated things campaign.
What do you HATE the most in the game? When your friends quit, they probably had many reasons for doing so, but what was that 1 mechanic he/she got very animated about and pushed them over the edge? It doesn't have to be the thing that made you or others quit, it could just be something that sticks out in your mind as something you just hate(d) to deal with.
I am not going to limit responses to small things, but be very aware that saying "Sov grind!" likely won't bring about any changes. So, do tell your most hated thing, but try to be reasonable or at the very least mention a very specific mechanic to the sov grind.
I will be compiling a list of the most hated things in eve and passing them onto the CSM for review and hopefully submission to CCP. (Who knows, maybe some devs will lurk this thread too ;))
Please submit no more than 5 items based on "Game Mechanic - specific hated thing - and if you prefer, a VERY short description of why you hate it. Since opinions will differ on how to fix things, please do NOT submit a suggested improvement. Just acknowledge that you hate it and why.
NO walls of text, or discussing/arguing over what other players hate. This is meant to just be a list.
I'll start us off
*******
1) Drone UI - Overly clicky management of drones in space 2) Skills - Weapons Upgrade 5 - Hated training this long skill in order to get to weapon power-grid improvements with AWU. 3) AFK cloaking - Players shouldn't be safe in space all day long while at work/school/etc if not in a POS shield 4) Skills - Base skills - Extremely boring to train especially for new players. 5) Missions - NPCs target drones too often, making drone ships in missions very un-fun to fly

1) Skills - Reverse Engineering. I wanted to disasemble items to get a bpc out of it, not build T3 ships. -.- 2) Non-Customizeable blue Prints. sucks. 3) AFK docking - Players shouldn't be safe in space all day long while at work/school/etc if not cloaked ina safe spot 4) Missions - AI - NPCs are to stupid. how come one does not get pocket aggro all the time?
To #4 - really, that's bugging just imagine what those guys are thinking: "Ok, there's the capsuleer, first group attack. The rest, stand back and see what happ- DAMN! First group got wiped, second gr- HOLY CRAP!!! Thir- ..." *Capsuleer continues on to next pocket* Stupidity should be a bannable offense.
Also This --> https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=216699 Please stop making "afk cloak" threads, thanks in advance. |

The unimaginably static nature of PvE content in EVE. In general. Especially combat missions. This is entirely why there's a huge gulf between the PvPers who believe themselves to be the only real players of the game. Because in a way, they are. PvE is too predictable, and you can literally let the game run on it's own and you'll just get money (thankfully, our friends in the New Order are trying to curb this completely silly state of affairs).
We need player interaction with resource nodes when they're being collected. We need smarter NPCs in less quantity with more HP and damage potential that will approximate players. We need procedurally generated missions. If we can do this, then people won't look at those who merely play PvE as the bottom rung in the game- because they'll need to put in effort and play the game to get anywhere.
Furthermore- why are we deadlocked in PvE into having to get a bigger ship if we want more money? Surely, there could be a way to rework the ranking of missions so that hypothetically speaking, someone in their Garmur could choose to go off and do a high risk, high reward mission that could net them L4 levels of payment (obviously, for a high risk as stated previously). It'll make the entire game more fun, memorable and worthwhile for a variety of reasons if we can do these things.
Really? Saying no walls of text, after making a wall of text? Merely stating an issue, and not adding possible solutions? Please, at least try. If we don't suggest a possible change, the point of the thread is null as it's just aimless whinging. I'll at least not debate your points, as you desire. |

I was going for practicality, but if players want to write out long walls of text and suggested fixes go for it. I don't mind the extra work. Edited OP. |

I don't know anyone that has quit the game they enjoy over some dodgy mechanics, that's just silly & basically the equivalent of a child throwing a tantrum. They either quit due to real life commitments or burnout. This post was lovingly crafted by a member of the Goonwaffe Posting Cabal & proud member of the popular gay hookup site, somethingawful.com |
