When I made Garamonde, I'd already decided that I didn't want to be a carebear anymore. So, I solo'd for a bit to get used to PvP, then joined M3 Corp. Had to take a break for a bit, and when I came back, I sought out a pirate corp... EVE has rarely been boring since then... *screen fades out* *5 years ago*
After a few beers I was feeling overconfident in my brand new frigate... told my corpmate that I could take him... turns out corpmate was a multi year veteran even though he sounded like a teenager... he promptly murderd me. I rallied two other newbies for great justice to try and kill him... we almost got his assault frig but our laughable tactics and murderous zeal led to all of us being soundly blown up. He reimbursed us for "good effort. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

My absolutely first loss in eve was on another character, account I tried out maybe three years ago. I wanted to be a smuggler so I used to move tobacco and anti-biotics around in low-sec. Using my full out cargo, no tank Mammoth. In retrospect I'm truly amazed that the mammoth survived for as long as it did.
I had amazing luck with that thing. FIlled to the brim with anti-biotics I jumped into a camp in Old Man Star. Though - yup this is it. Then queue Orca loosing his gate cloak right behind me. What finally got that mammoth was a Talos on the undock in some Amarr low-sec. On that last trip it broke even. |

my first PVP experience was getting station camped by a hi sec wardeccer. I undocked and died. Reshipped and grabbed a couple of corp mates. We warped in and died.
Much fun was had by all.
I assume the guy that popped us was either impressed a bunch of noobs had the stones to come in guns blazing, or he was just grateful for 'content' because after the battle we had a nice little chat and he reimbursed our losses :)
Fleet mining ops just didn't have the same draw after that. |

My first loss was a Merlin somewhere in 0.0. Lord Zap and his m0o Corp. cronies (at the time) arrived at the station just as I had undocked. When I re-docked I saw my Merlin in spacedock for a brief instant before it quite suddenly turned into a pod. That was so long ago I can't even find it on the killboards.
It was hilariously embarrassing because while I was typing something along the lines of "shall we play cat and mouse," my ship was already destroyed. Lord Zap promptly responded "Looks like I already won." If you like any of the older ship models (original artwork) better than the redesign of your favorite hull and don't want them to be lost forever, support ship customization and this feature request. |

my first loss was a triple-tanked (yup) tristan somewhere in Verge Vendor lowsec (waaaay pre current KMs ... so it's been lost to time).
Gave a (suspect) newbie* his first taste of getting shot yesterday, and he got his pod out. As annoyed as I am that I didn't get to see what's inside (note to self, pre-heat point next time), still give him props for that. Hope he'll log in and be receptive to a chat today, rather than rage and stuff.
* Notes, because someone will scream foul ...
- Was not in a newbro system - He was suspect before I got to that system - Not 100% convinced he's really a newbro One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

My first loss was to one of you guys, bravely mining in a Navitas in Seyllin, lowsec, two years ago. I'd made about five good runs fully loaded with Jaspet and was on my sixth I think, when bam, I was exploding. Thought it was rats at first, but then I saw the red locking my pod... You don't scare me. I've been to Jita.

My first loss?
Over the years there have been so many that they have merged into a horrible litany of death and destruction.
A catalogue of "how not to do it" if you will. With every loss I learn a valuable lesson. That lesson is that ships are valuable and getting more so every time I have to buy a new one.
Still the loss that stands out in my mind is getting ganked in a shuttle as I jumped into lowsec on my second day in game to have a look around and ran into a gate camp of 20 ships. I was mesmerised by the ships and bright flashy lights and trails of weapons fire that lit up my shuttle for a second before it disintegrated around me. That's when I learned of another eve tradition, the podding, the subsequent waking up in a new clone, and the obligatory evemail of gloating.

Think my first losses were in the starter system to Concord. I kept trying to kill other rookies whenever any of the starter missions annoyed me. Luckily they found it entertaining and I quite enjoyed being squished by Concord. Probably why none of my earlier losses are particularly memorable.
The earliest two I rmember was when I'd switched to a mining character so I could spend time reading guides and grind up the ISK for learning skillbooks. Someone can flipped me, so I ended up switching to mining in a Badger. Seriously, I spent about 10 hours the following weekend mining, was ready to quit. Then went and hauled NPC trade goods into null. Ran into a gatecamp and died - and at this point got interested again. I must have turned all effects and sounds on because the explosion was spectacular and made me burst out laughing.
Later ones were all against corpies in highsec, we used to mess about quite a lot (and ran corp tournies). First proper loss was when a corpie went nuts during a tourney and podded a couple of people, so we all went and 1v1'd him. In our mission ships lmao, that was a mistake.
We had a few highsec wars which we fought rather than got ganked in. Lost a fair bit in those but it was a good way to get into PVP and get over the jitters. Once you've lost a few ships you start getting it into perspective (helps if you get a few KMs along the way). TO THE RIPARDMOBILE! |

My first pvp experience: "Oh look a wormhole..."
Heron blows up to a missile volley from a Tengu. Received 5 mils from the guy with the message "Buy a new ship. Stay out of wormholes." Did that ever since. :D The money he gave me were actually more than the Heron and I bought skills and modules and stuff. So in a way the dude actually helped me.

My first loss was my brand new iteron IV. I went out and buyed a whole load of tritanium in lowsec because I would get it sooo much cheaper out there than in highsec (around...100k ISK per filled hauler). Got catched by a loki on the last gate. |

I got sent into low sec by a mission and my ship got absolutely melted by an old school 7 heat sink geddon. I was so awestruck by it that the pilot inspired me to take up pvp and become a pirate and around 2 years later he became my CEO by sheer coincidence. First pvp experience and immediatly a loss was when i had mined over 2 months to build myself a raven -that's in the time when the best way to mine was in an apoc btw around 2004/2005 - and once i had finished building it i boarded it , undocked and set destination to ecp-8 ... it died 20 minutes later in ecp-8 .
That loss was one of the best things i have experienced in eve tbh till this day , taught me a LOAD of lessons in one go.
