I'm honoured to be running a community bank that is simply drawing more and more people in every day. While I do, as you could imagine, take a small portion of the bank's revenue as part of my own salary - the majority of the money is reinvested in exciting new community projects.
However, we shouldn't take too much notice of the OP. Don't stop investing, as without the tireless support of our investors - the bank simply wouldn't be the success it is today.
Thanks to every single member of this community. Thanks.

I just don't see the purpose or merit of a 'bank' in EVE. ISK is not physical, takes up no space, and can be easily invested using one's own devices. Giving it over to some 'bank' seems foolhardy, and honestly, lazy. |

Ah right. Well let me run through the benefits of banking.
- Banks connect people with excess capital with people who need access to capital. This allows manufacturers/traders to expand their operations, allowing them to make more profits that can be shared as interest with the investors. - Banks add depth to the EVE economy and help mimic some of the institutions found in the real world. - Banks are ultimately shining examples of player-driven content; this is a fundamental part of what makes EVE the amazing sandbox that it is.

Well -- here is my response:
1) Adequate social networking skills (which is not SP-related whatsoever) can put an average player in contact with far more reliable sources of capital. Any Alliance/Corporation worth their weight and worth existing has a pretty steady flow of ISK backing them. Why go to a bank in EVE when banks within EVE are notorious for scams when I can raise capital with those I trust far more and whom I have built trust with them?
2) That is cool that it 'mimics' something in the real world, but is EVE the real world? I would argue that it is not -- ISK is digital currency, easily accessible everywhere in game. It is players, by the way, with trading that add depth to the market, not your bank.
3) Your third point is just your second point with a different coat of paint. It is sort of like when a company puts "All-Natural" on their product, as if it makes it safer. Know what is also "All-Natural"? Cyanide, but I don't think that is particularly conducive for good and healthy living. On to EVE. Just because it is emergent, player-driven content, does not mean that it is any better or worse for me. You know what is also player-driven content? Contract scams, ISK-multipliers, and the other dregs of trade hub society (which each have been blocked in their respective holes in my game).
I mean, go ahead with what you are doing. It is definitely more entertaining long-run to see what thoughtless idiots choose to drink your Kool-Aid. :) |

We have been needing an EVE Bank ever since the last EVE bank collapsed in a firestorm of accusations and ulcers.
I, for one, endorse The Guv and his noble enterprise.
Give him a shot, invest some ISK you were going to lose on SOME Blink anyway. You won't regret it!

Like what, exactly? Be specific.
Because a new industrialist is going to be told to kiss the ring, or take a hike by anyone worth a damn. And an established alliance with an isk flow like the Governor is offering to his customers already has established industrialists.
Where is the emergent industrialist to turn? "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

A single plex, especially with current prices, can give a good egg to work with for an emerging newbro industrialist. As far as ring kissing, I haven't had to do anything like that. I just prove myself reliable, show up to everything they need a person to show up for, be reasonably active, and bam, you can get a loan from a friend, corpmate, or alliance-mate.
I mean, I make enough in an hour of work to easily get a plex. I don't subsist on them, but I did use one for start-up investment money when I make major shifts (or when ISK-flow dies down, plex helps my whole operation from drying up, like the current issues in Providence. lol Anyways, far better than going to a bank as a new player ESPECIALLY if the new player has no perspective on EVE's history with 'Banks'. |
