before the update, I was running security missions lvl II quite comfortably in my Kestrel. only certain missions with fat ships, industrials specifically, took me quite longer. today I try my first mission after the update, same agent, and I am completely overwhelmed. number of ships is not the problem, as I have fought more before. although there are a bit more big red crosses. the worst thing is that I am getting target jammed by dire pthium nullifiers. I found some info on the web, and it says that its jamming strength is 3. kestrel apparently has a sensor strength of 11 and was jammed easily. I switched to caracal with sensor strength of 16 and put a conjunctive gravimetric eccm scanning array (with strength of 96% which I assume is by how much it increases sensor strength) and I was STILL jammed! so my questions are: 1) did they make changes to guristas in this update to make them quite a bit harder? or did they increase missions difficulty? 2) if all is good and as before, how am I supposed to fight target jamming? fill all mid and low slots with sensor boosting equipment? |

You need to make friends _in_game_ not here on the forum. And it's more like a year to be able to fly a marauder. If two months are a problem for you a change of games might be at hand. If you take all the sand out of the box, only the cat poo will remain. |

Use Auto-Targeting missiles against Guristas when they are jamming you out repeatedly. Your missiles will attack randoms targets but if I remember correctly they'll mostly volley the same one until it's gone? If you like any of the older ship models (original artwork) better than the redesign of your favorite hull and don't want them to be lost forever, support ship customization and this feature request. |

Drop drones as soon as you land on grid, and order them to attack.
You'll lose your target locks often, but your drones will seldom be ECMed and if they are, only one of them will be at a time.

QFT. This is New Citizens Q&A not GD.
To OP: As stated earlier, auto targeting missiles are your friend against Guristas. Or alternatively, learn which ships jam and pick off the jamming ships as soon as you enter the mission pocket (learn to do this).
Drones can also be helpful if you drop them before you're jammed, however some missions you will need to watch for an aggro switch and hope you don't get them blapped.
In regards to jamming strengths, all jams are based on a percentage, I'm not too sure how it works but it's to do with the whole you senser strength and their jam strength and then they have a percentage of whether the jams hit or not. There are some skills (senser compensation skills) that can be trained to up your different sensor strengths and such and will help against jams.
As for the Guristas themselves, they can be a pain in the ass, they are known for heavy jams that can render all but Marauders in Bastion mode unable to lock targets.

chill indeed! I have a couple of friends in-game, who pulled me into this game, who unfortunately arent online now. I was not trying to make friends on the forum, I was asking for advice! I am new and I thought maybe I need to use an actual strategy killing them, unlike what I was doing before. this is what the forum is for, isnt it? and indeed how did you manage to get an idea that I dont have patience to train? I just pointed out how pointless the marauder suggestion was. besides, I did dozens of missions from this same agent in my KESTREL and I was fine, and now all of a sudden I need a battleship. seems like a huge difference in difficulty within same level of missions. |

Until you get to a Battleship with Bastion, jamming will always be a problem. However to give yourself a little more damage, range and a bit more leeway in your missions, you could always grab a Corax or a Caracal (missile Destroyer and Cruiser respectively). Now while a Corax is higher DPS than a Kestrel its tank is round about the same (dessies are paper thin) whereas while the Caracal is overkill for level 1s and 2s, it really does give you a little more leeway to make mistakes within your missions. You seem to have a habit for providing fundamentally ******* useless advice, and then getting indignant over the responses.
Suggesting "get a marauder" for someone doing level 2 missions puts you on the spectrum somewhere between "idiot" and "trolling idiot".
@OP: Jammers gonna jam. Generally speaking, you should be able to tank (through some combination of shield, speed, sig, and tank) long enough for the jamming to end. If you can't, you probably need to rethink your fitting. I wouldn't bother with the auto targeting missiles - they're unreliable and the time you spend switching ammo is unlikely to be worth it. Drones, however, can be a big help - if you can sic them on the jammer before you get jammed, they'll continue to attack through the jam cycle. "Help, I'm bored with missions!"

I will try auto-targeting missiles. I know which ships jam me - it says so if I hover the mouse cursor over the jam icon. It is Dire Pithum Nullifiers. The problem is that they have very high resistances, and I cant kill them before getting blown up by other ships (2 battlecruisers and 4 cruisers in addition to 2 nullifiers). I need to kill low resistance targets quickly before taking on high resistance ones. As for jamming, this page http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/item.php?type_id=24094 says their jamming strength is only 3, but chance is 100%! so my sensor strength doesnt really matter? And I should replace my sensor boosting equipment with something for shield, kinetic resistance probably? I will try drones too. Thankfully my friend told me to train scout drone operation to 5, so I now have light and medium drones at 5 too :) thanx all for advice! |

I can only repeat again _bring_a_friend_. Guristas will rarely ever jam more then one player ship on grid. Bring more then one ship, take out the jammer rats first and they become easy pray. The best solution remains to bring a Marauder because the bastion module, that can only be used on that ship class, makes them immune to jamming. It is the actual solution to your problem, may it be overkill or take you a year to reach it.
The formula for jamming can be found here. What doesn't help you because knowing the formula will not prevent you from getting jammed.

I am trying to do it in my Caracal now. my friend told me, frigates for lvl 1, destroyers for 2, cruisers for lvl 3 missions. this mission however wants me to kill 2 guristas battlecruisers and 6 cruisers. seems crazy for lvl 2 mission? |

You are most likely doing the mission Recon (1 of 3) that is in the game unchanged for many years. If you would have named that mission right from the start I could have told you that you need to read and understand the mission text instead of shooting any NPCs.

how did you know I expressed unhappiness? I point out that I have been playing for 3 weeks only, and you suggestion was to bring a ship for which I need at least 2 months of skills (and according to you which I can fly only in a year). I hope in a year I will be well beyond level 2 missions. |

Bringing a friend for Recon (1 of 3) is exactly the right thing to do if you want to collect the bounty. Not bad money for a noob, if you manage to get a lock. A friend will get a lock.

that wasnt unhappiness at the long skill training time. it was unhappiness about the fact that seemingly low level missions would require such a ship, especially taking into account that I was getting by just fine in a frigate before. |

If you post exactly how you are fitting your Caracal the nice people here can help you improve it. A Caracal should be able to tank level 2s. Unless of course it is one of the missions where you are not actually supposed to fight the enemies. Check the mission objective and watch local for instructions. Since it's the only way to avoid a wardec there are literally thousands of players in Marauders in NPC corps. I am sorry to have stated the fact that Marauders help against jamming. Could you please tell my why you are so focused on me having mentioned them?

The troll is correct. You do not need to fight the npcs in that particular mission, just activate the gate and the mission is completed.
