I don't always want to drag out EFT to experiment with a fit. So how about I have the ability to do so inside EVE?
Idea: The module/rig database is copied with an additional switch that denotes the module as a "ghost module". Some simple graphics overlay denotes module as being different (shading, Scarlet A, whatever).
1) The ghost switch keeps the module from being traded, sold, or undocked. 2) All modules are available through the market browser no matter where you are in the EVE universe. 3) Fitting tool would benefit from a "strip ghost modules/rigs only" function 4) Fitting tool might benefit from a "ignore skill fitting limitations" switch - but for first pass a lot of utility without it. 5) Modules maintain m3 6) Modules load charges (ghost ammo/cap boosters/etc required?)
By extension, ghost ships? CCP .. always first with the wrong stuff

While it isn't a bad idea for Eve to include its own fitting simulator, EFT already does a great job and supports importing and exporting fits from Eve. I am not sure why we need to have development time spent duplicating that effort. |

Because it might take a lot less effort than you think. All of the tools are already in Eve to make a fitting simulator, wherein you can select a ship, it's attributes are effected as if you're piloting it, you fit it, and you can save the fitting, then step out of the simulator... And still be in the game.
That's the key there. I hate using two programs to accomplish one task. Wait, CCP kills kittens now too?!-á-á - Freyya |

Besides not dragging, or dissuading, me from being in EVE for some period of time, this feature would be of great benefit to new players who have never heard of EFT, until they get into a social situation within EVE that educates them about EFT (and it's capable ilk).
I honestly think this is a very low effort to implement or I wouldn't have suggested it.
It certainly wouldn't replace EFT's very comprehensive feature set! CCP .. always first with the wrong stuff

This is certainly an interesting idea, one that I think would be great for seeing, 'with my current skills, could I optimize my fit doing this this and this', or 'could I fit this ship out?' without having to go out of game and resort to other tools.
While it seems like an easy thing to implement, a test fitting mode, I can imagine it might somehow be difficult to code. |

It would be a very nice feature. I have no idea if it would be difficult to implement. Possibly some one can look at it and see? There is one EvE. Many people. Many lifestyles. WE are EvE |

EFT's greatest utility is in letting you see what you could put together with an arbitrary set of skills so you can decide what to train next. |
