No this is not a rant thread just a question, is manufacturing dead? I have run the numbers on many many things to manufacture with researched bpo and what not, but most of the stuff u net maybe 1mill per item created, or below, there are some items that net 3-6mill but move Very slow.
Besides T2 invention is manufacturing for the single character not lucrative like it used to be? |

There are still some items out there that make a good profit.
But as with most thing, you need to do your research.
Don't forget that 1 mil profit can be good if you sell 100+ items. |

yeah but when 100+ items take a week or two to make it's kinda like hmm I could have easily made this in a few incursions. |

Manufacturing is passive income. Incursions are active. The goal is to be cooking indy jobs while you are doing incursions. Have your hauler alt hauling to market while you're doing incursions. spend a few minutes here and there starting and delivering jobs. Spend a few minutes here and there putting stuff on market. Make sell order modifications as often as you like/have interest/have time. |

I use manufacturing to complement my main trading business.
Instead of having to buy several items at the lowest possible cost, I can concentrate on buying 'well' just a few key materials. Materials that make up no more than 5-10% of total manufacturing cost I just quickly buy at whatever price since the impact on profits is very low anyway.
Plus, I get an extra profit compared to pure trading!
Still need to do your research, naturally, some items you can buy for way lower than your own manufacturing cost. |

yes, manufacturing is dead. don't get involved. One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

Manufacuting is resting in peace. Soon the market will be empty and nullsec fights will be a gigantic mass of pod blobs bumping each others trying to prevent warps out.

Manufacture works best as a complement to something else. Either as passive income for people doing other PvE, a way for traders to get ceretain goods to the market or a way for miners to turn their minerals into something worth more (just remember, just because you mined it yourself, does not make it free since you could have just sold the ore or minerals as-is, and if you sell below that cost you are losing money) |

It's kind-of passive income. Yes incursions will make you more ISK. If you're a miner it's something that flows quite naturally, allowing you to add value to the minerals you mine before you sell them. That's the way I see it anyway. Instead of selling minerals directly I combine them into some things and sell those for more than the minerals alone would have fetched. |

low margins are a sign of competition. low margins mean that a lot of people are doing industry. lots of people doing something !=dead. Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85 |

What gets me is that the prices for meta 1-2 ship modules are often much lower then t1 manufacturing costs. It's only going to get worse when the new salvaging and refining changes go into effect with crius.
I really hope that module tiericide will come soon. |

The only reason the profit margin is low is so many people are doing it. It's hard to justify something as being dead when so many are doing it.
I use to mine and just bulk sell to the highest bidder. Then I started manufacturing and found many items I could sell for more than I was getting just selling minerals. I get maybe a 40% markup on average over what I would have gotten just bulk selling the minerals. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

I think the OP might be having a problem with expectations. .
The "only makes a million of or so profit" comment points to the disconnect.
That profit margin depends on the cost to build the item.
1 Mill profit on a frigate is awesome. Same profit on a battleship is lousy.
The two ways to look at it is either ISK/hour or percentage return.
I prefer to work on percentage. I don't mess with anything that returns less than a 10% profit. That is where I have set my "floor".
On the mix of products my Alts are manufacturing I am currently averaging 29% return. While I could improve that with additional hours of out of game market research, or in game "market grind". This provides me with what I consider to be a good income while still leaving time for other activites I enjoy within eve.
Oh, and this is only the tech one items, I make much more ISK on some tech two items but they tend to be higher margin /lower turnover items. |

If there's so much being manufactured (supply) the people using it can't keep up (demand) and the profit evaporates, manufacturing still won't be dead. Manufacturers will do something else and the profit will return until it gets so good it attracts manufacturers..
Very simplified but you get the idea. |

Not same as big wars start in nullsec, these wars stimulate much aspects of manufacturing. Lady Areola Fappington: -áSolo PVP isn't dead!-á You just need to make sure you have your booster, remote rep, cyno, and emergency Falcon alts logged in and ready before you do any solo PVPing. |

There are items that will net a loss, there are items that may yield a profit. Bigger stuff like capitals normally always yield a profit, but the profit margin is small, maybe 10% a month. Smaller items may yield a bigger profit maybe 10% a day but there is a lot of market hassle involved with them. You might even lose money making them. |
