Hey folks,
So I've almost finished my Gunnery training, or at least where I want it. I have IV for every support skill, V for Gunnery, Small Hybrid, and soon Medium Hybrid. After that I'll up Rails and Blasters.
I want to be good at Frigs and Cruisers, and I want to have some variety of builds and fits across faction. So I planned to train up some missile skills, however reviewing them leads me to believe they are not as strait forward as gunnery training. Like what's the difference between rockets and missiles? Are light/medium/heavy like small/medium/large for turrets?
I'm basically looking for some simple advice on what's a support skill for all missiles, and then which of the different missiles for Frigs and Cruisers.
Thanks |

Pretty much, except it's light, heavy, cruise, with a few variations.
Rockets are shorter range but higher damage than light missiles, it's like the missile version of blasters vs rails. Heavy Assault Missiles are shorter range but higher damage than heavy missiles.
Frigs and destroyers will use light missiles/rockets. Cruisers/battlecruisers will use heavy/heavy assault missiles.
There are also rapid light missile launchers that you can use with cruisers, huge damage but have a huge reload timer to compensate. My lord. |

I would suggest that you get your gunnery supports to V. It really makes a difference and some of them are pretty fast to train.

Don't bother honestly. I made the mistake of training missiles. Various alts with 5-9m sp in missiles. Fracking waste of time. Hams depending on what you fly are ok, past that.... Frack no |

The above player is colloquially known as a "bad".
Heavy missiles are pretty mediocre right now, and rapid launchers are in sort of a rough state as well (though in certain circumstances they're very briefly amazing).
Rockets, LML, HAMS, and cruise missiles are all pretty good, and torpedoes are needed for stealth bombers. "Help, I'm bored with missions!"

Finish gunnery support skills before you start missiles. There's a big difference from having them at 4 to 5. It's better to be really good at one than just so so at both. |

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I'm a pretty young chara, and new to eve so the training time for those skills to 5 looked daunting.
I think I'll take your advice anyways and finish my gunnery skills then. This will also save me some cross training time on hulls as well, since I might as well wait to train missile boats to later then too. |

In contrast to what everyone else is saying, as a young character you should find one or two hulls you are comfy flying for a couple months almost exclusively, before you start committing to a long skilltrain for certain support skills going to V. Additionally missiles and guns use the same attributes anyway. Nothing stopping you from finishing gun skills after you bring up missiles a bit.
Burnout is a big shadow over this game and being happy/entertained is more important than anything else.
On the other hand some of those gun supports really are quick to bring to V. |
