Ive recently gotten back into anime. Ive recently completed a binge of the following:
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (and the original FullMetal Alchemist) - Loved Brotherhood.. was Ok with the original.
Attack on Titan - OMG loved it. cant wait for 2015 to see season 2.
Sword Art Online - OMFG loved it. cant wait for the sequel.
Soul Eater - enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as the others.
Any recommendations from anime fans out there? Im currently watching Bubblegum Crisis again (watched it years ago but never saw the last half of the series), and im looking to finish watching Neon Genesis Evangelion (if I can ever find a complete set.. I heard the ending was disappointing.. but I want to judge for myself).
Im all good with English subtitles (sometimes its preffered over the terribad English dubbing) if that helps narrow it down. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

One Piece is meant to be very good. There's also the old favourite of Dragonball Z I love to reload during a battle... There's nothing like the feeling of slamming a long silver missile, into a well greased chamber... |

I tried watching One Piece awhile ago and couldn't get into it (I find this is the case with many anime shows). I may have to give it another try. Sometimes it takes me a few episodes to get into the swing..or to power through some horrible stuff.

Ive heard some good things about both. Adding them to my list. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

Rurouni Kenshin - only watched half of the series and the OVA's. Start with the first OVA Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal as is it sets up the story line for the series pure epic! The second OVA is set during and after the series)
Yu-Yu Hakusho - somewhat childish, but it kept me interested until Adult Swim stopped showing it around the half way point and have never been able to complete the series.
Ergo Proxy - I love this one, well the 5 episodes I watched, and the music is absolutely mesmerizing.
Cowboy Bebop - Animated Firefly imo
Wolf's Rain - excellent series!
The following are probably redundant as they are the Old Guard.]
Trigun
Slayers
Macross
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Berserk
Fist of the North Star
Vampire Hunter D

Ugh! DBZ was atrocious...but that could have something to do with how it was aired on TV. It seemed like they took at least a week and sometimes a month to complete a single fight
EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I like the story line, but they seriously broke it down way to much for airing on television with all those stinking commercials. |

I just watched Kill la Kill and while it's kinda slaps you in the face with the fanservice and fetishy themes, it was actually pretty good with a combination of humor and plot with decent character development. Any fans of FLCL will probably like it. As I recall it was 24 episodes that are all about 25 min in length so you dont get of that "short episode" crap and it's not so super long and drawn out that you'll be watching it for weeks. What I always tell people to watch:
Space Cobra
Legend of Galactic Heroes
Since everybody and their momma are going to tell you about Battleship Yamato, Trigun, Macross, Gundam etc.
Those gems are my favorites, due to personal reasons, but they are solid choices if you into the genre.
Consider them the less known alternatives to fried chicken.
Might be good , might be bad, but they are not fried chicken, and that-¦s all that matters sometimes. Inner Sayings of BrujoLoco: http://eve-files.com/sig/brujoloco |

Will suggest a couple of nice & short series:
Code Geass (strange how nobody mentioned it), an interesting twist on mech animes.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: a little known jewel. Watch it or watch it.
Also will concur with the poster above suggesting Legend Of The Galactic Heroes, but that's one serious piece with 110 episodes. Just the best space opera ever filmed, though.
And last, a cult series, ("cult" as in love it or hate it)
Gantz
Personally, I think it makes GOT's Red Wedding look like a joyful picnic, so be warned. Q: So many well known dev's left lately, should we be worried? A: (Jester): Nope. (...) Worry a lot if Fozzie, Masterplan, Rise, Veritas, Bettik, Ytterbium, Scarpia, Arrow, or even Greyscale leaves. Worry a little if Punkturis, karkur, SoniClover, Affinity, Goliath, or Xhagen leaves.

.Hack//Sign -- Fantasy RPG futuretech.
Air Gear -- Skates man. Skates!
Baccano! -- Off the wall Mob/gangster-era with a twist
Black Lagoon -- Modern Pirates. With Humour. And Swearing. Humour optional.
Chuunibyou Demo Koi Ga Shitai! -- Weeaboo as ****. Diabetics be warned.
Code Geass -- Mind control. Mecha. Lelouch. What more do you need?
Cowboy Bebop -- Spike Spiegal.
Darker than Black -- Dem Collarbones. Also superpowers in an interesting setting.
Ergo Proxy -- Futuretech Cyberpunk Dystopia.
Fate/Zero -- Okay, this one is a bit heavy. It's related to the Fate/ Franchise of visual novels, light novels and etc. But its ridiculously good. You *should* watch Fate/Stay Night beforehand, but it's a generally weaker adaptation of the relevant visual novel versus this adaptation of the prequel light novel. Lost yet? good!.
Ghost in the Shell + 2nd Gig -- Futuretech Cyberware. Insanely good soundtrack.
The Kara no Kyoukai movies -- Done by the same guys as the Fate/Zero anime, and set in the same universe. It's complicated and a bit of a clusterfuck.
Kill la Kill -- A fairly recent Anime by the TTGL guys. Warning, this show will sexualize *anything*.
Kurokami -- Not in any particular way special, but i didn't regret watching.
Last Exile -- Steampunk Airships.
Madlax -- A very, very confusing show at times.
Mahou Shojo Madoka Magicka -- Okay, force yourself through the first two episodes or so. I promise it'll pay off.
Noein -- Wibbely Wobbly Timey wimey. It's been a while and thats all I remember.
PaniPoni Dash! -- Sugarrushohgod
RIN Daughters of Mnemosyne -- Fairly adult-themed. Was worth the watch though.
Rozen Maiden + Traumend + Zur++ckspulen -- Dolljoints.
Samurai Champloo -- Crazy dudes, crazy dudes EVERYWHERE.
Scrapped Princess -- Fantasy setting, again, remember little but didn't regret watching.
Shikabane Hime -- More than a little weird. Good soundtrack. Dairly morbid.
Shiki -- The slow vampire invasion.
Sword Art Online -- Feelsfest2000. The only anime I've cried more after watching was Clannad Afterstory. There's a reason I didn't reccomend Clannad. Brb, getting a tissue.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann -- Manly Combining.
Tenjou Tenghe -- Martial arts school society.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya -- Hello sir have you accepted our lord and Saviour Haruhi into your life?
Trigun -- Comedic futuretech western? Best way I can sum it up.
Trinity Blood -- More vampires. And Able. Pretty hilarious with some serious streaks.
Witch Hunter Robin -- Another thats been too long since I watched to remember Resident Haruhiist since December 2008.
Laying claim to Out of Pod Experience since 2007, plain and simple. Keep the trash out of Out Of Pod Experience, If it's EVE Related or deserves a Lock, it does not belong here. |

Quote:2061 AD. Fifty years have passed since mankind developed the Network society. It was anticipated that this new infrastructure would realize a utopia where people connected with each other at the level of consciousness. However, new social problems such as personal data leaks and proliferation of manipulated information began to surface. Nevertheless, people still relied on the Network to exchange information, and proved unable to opt to abandon it.
In due course, a new Network realm with more effective security measures was developed. This was called Meta Real Network, usually abbreviated as "the Metal."
The Metal accommodated personal memory data within protected virtual stand-alone organic cyber enclaves called bubble shells and eventually pervaded the everyday lives of people.
However, people gradually learned to release and explode their instincts within the secure environment of the Metal. The unleashed instincts pushed each individual's consciousness to drown in the sea of information and to be exposed to the pressures of desire. Meanwhile, norms and regulations continued to bind their real world lives. Thus, strange friction between the two worlds began to manifest themselves as aberrations beyond the bounds of the imaginable.
Experts who challenged the deep sea of the Metal to investigate and decipher such aberrations were called cyber divers.
This is a story of a cyber diver, Masamichi Haru, who investigates the incidents that lie between Reality and the Metal. |
