Scanning for lost drones is a very time consuming process. If my drones were not worth enough ISK when I stupidly leave them behind I would simply go and buy a new set, but instead it's still preferable to try and recover them, even then it can take a very long time to actually find them... This is why I would like to propose an idea.
If you scan for an active drone, one that is currently tethered to a ship then the current scan difficulty for drones should remain exactly as it currently stands. There's no way drones should be able to be used to rapidly assist with pinpointing the position of a player who uses them any more so than any other factor.
Once a drone gets abandoned however, I see no reason why it could not go into an 'Abandoned Mode' whereby it actively pings and so acts like a beacon. If the game mechanics allow for this, this would make the drones more easily discoverable by a factor, perhaps of four or even as high as ten. For muppets like myself, who occasionally leave behind a wing this would be a welcome change to make recovering them easier. It would also reinvigorate the now grey and dusty profession of the pro drone reclaimer, not since the new scanning mechanics were introduced has this been a time efficient profession. |

Effort vs reward, drones can be scanned down and it should stay that way.
You either waste time scanning them or forget them behind and they get picked up by someone else, CCP should instead make drones with value lesser than 200k/unit disappear within 48 hours to prevent white noise.
T2 drones are worth scanning down for noobs.

I can refer you to this thread https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=272809&find=unread. Further comments are actually unnecessary, I'll do it anyway.
I lost my fare share of drones during my lifetime and on my first real try it took me about an hour - now, less then 5 minutes, you can extrapolate from that what it implies training and fit wise. But even so, lazyness and lack of carefulness should not be rewarded or go unpunished. That being said, there are still other options then plain scanning, a bookmark, a gate, some other object, that is easier to scan or even warp to, also finding your drones under many others is easier if you switch to ships in between. 5 drones and a ship present are not yours or soon won't be, so skip that scan...
And there are pilots out there who make a living finding lost drones, never forget the meta game.

Finding lost drones has always been a nice reward for not being a bot Is that my two cents or yours? |
