I'm setting up a second PI alt. My main and first alt both do their PI in null-sec and that makes pretty good ISK but I've heard wormholes can be especially lucrative. Before I plunge for it I have a few questions:
1) How profitable is WH PI compared to null (-0.5 or so) PI? I'll probably start by manufacturing T2, maybe move on to T3 once I get Command Center Upgrades V. If it isn't much better than null I might just stick there with a station.
2) Is a POS entirely necessary? Usually an Epithal can hold about one week's worth of T2 production so that would be the interval at which I'd return to k-space. I'd rather not go through all the hassle of anchoring and maintaining a POS if it can be avoided.
3) What kind of WHs should I be looking for? I've heard that the type doesn't affect the planet's resources so I figured I would find an out-of-the-way C1.
Any other advice is welcome. Keep in mind that this will be purely a PI alt, I'll log in maybe once a day to manage planets. |

1: It's more profitable than nullsec. Not 10x or anything, but you get a good bit more. 2: You can not move stuff between planets, but it drastically cuts down on efficiency. The second 2: Only if you want a place to stay, store stuff, swap out ships, etc. Basically yes.
3: Now here's the tricky bit. Your best choice is either a Cx-> Highsec or Cx -> lowsec (x can be any value). Anything with a static highsec is a valuable hole. They are not exactly lying around casually. So you need to either pay for one (via WH broker), or evict the previous owner. Lowsec's are more common to be empty but still prob going to have to pay a decent fee, or spend hours and hours scanning for one.
All in all, if you are only making a single PI char, just stick with wherever you are. WH PI is best done by moving in, setting up a tower, POCO's on the planets, then either just doing PI as a side income stream to supplement the main sleeper/relic/data/gas income, or bringing in multiple PI chars to set up a full scale PI farming operation.
Remember that if you want to try and squat with no tower, you need to have a ship that can cloak, can scan (got to get out), and has enough cargohold to pick up the PI results. That means a Blockade runner, or a DST. |

I think an Epithal with MWD+Cloak is just as safe as a transport ship if you don't have to deal with bubbles. I've used that fit for a long time and haven't gotten ganked once in low or null. I could fit a probe launcher too, although I may have to alternate between the cloak and launcher because of the CPU limit.
But you're right, it would be rather pointless to not move stuff between planets - I may as well stay in null where that's more of an option. Maybe once I'm more established (richer) I'll think about moving both of my alts into a WH with my own POCOs and POS.
Thanks for the advice. |

the logistics for just 1 character would make this whole thing pointless when you have access to null and have everything you need already set up

C4 with a c3 static (or a C3 low sec hole) so you can run sites on the side. Not much traffic in your hole. Put up your own custom offices ( no taxes) and drop a large tower with full defenses. Main and 2 alts running PI will more then pay for fuel costs.
Run sites, mine gas, make blueprint copies, Invention, react gas into T3.... whole host of stuff to do. Logistics are not too bad. Might even get to pop into Null to run a few sites or mess with the locals.
Wormholes and PI are where it's at...

WH space is not null.
Yes you will have plenty of chances to get better PI - maybe a 10-15% boost from a -0.5 system (depending on your setup and skills)
But you had better be ready to defend yourself. Sooner or later you will be attacked. In force. My guess is that two alts sitting in an Epithal would die in a ball of fire quite nicely there. |
