Ok, so i was just sitting watching some mind numbing TV show and a thought hit me, "how come characters don't age in Eve?"
Most RPG style games i have played in the past have an age att for the chars, when they get too old they start to suffer penalties.
Would this be a good ar bad thing in eve? Certainly new players might think this as they think they could never outfight an "old" player cos of the skills gap, (utter nonsense i know so no flames please). Older players would not welcome this as they would see as their chars get too old, then they would start to suffer from the penalties of old age.
Thoughts???

Hehe, I dont think players would be willing to train characters for years only to find them in a wheelchair talking nonsens...
Its much better without the wheelchars.

Most players haven't reached an age where they can talk according to their 'age'.
If you assume a base age when they became a pod pilot, how many penalties are they going to get in three years or less? ---------- Sorry but that link contains nawty language. -wystler "Discussing moderation is not allowed" - Ivan K "Ranting is prohibited" - Teblin

I think it is a great idea.
I reckon my character is about 20 years old, and in 2036 she would be 50, at which point I may concede skillpoints to old age.

From an EvE RP / Scientist point of view, It would all depend on how the cloning system actually works. As far as I can tell, you can move your clone location then within about 30secs, undock, get podded and wind up in the clone bay of your new "home" station.
When you are podded, does your avatar return agewise to the time he was first cloned, or are clones ages accelerated to a certain point before they are suspended ready for your use?
I would assume that the age of a character and the age of his current clone are 2 totally seperate numbers. That and the fact that if your clone got too old, just kill it, and get into a new younger body without age penalties.
This would probably make more sense if I took biology A-levels all those years ago instead of physics and chemistry

well it was only a datf idea at best and i never said that i agreed on it, just other peoples thoughts.
I have been readin a few novels recently which talk about clones "skin jobs" and yes they do retain their knowledge and skills and the clones, once activated, are new and fresh, with the skills/knowledge injected into them. They appear not to age at all.

Edited by: Bagdh Dearg on 14/06/2006 12:33:53 Cloning allows us to be kept in a state of perpetual youth. My guess is that we have a set age of when we first gave our bio's to the medical centres and that when we dock at a station with one we get a quick tune up to the old clone. If nothing else when you are podded you are dropped right back into a new age less clone.
My subjective age may only be 20 but objectively I might be over 100 years old for all it would matter. _______________________________________________ -He who is not strong must be crafty |

I've played a lot of (mmo)rpg's, and i can't really remember a single one that has an aging character in it, except for Fable, which doesn't really count.

Exactly along the lines of what I was going to post :)
Quite literally, EVE time = RL time.

We all know old people are bad drivers ! And to reflect this I think in eve a player should mimick what happens in real life. After a charachter reaches X age......
ONE SPEED 40 m/s , Nothing else !!
Oh and they will be forced to chunter abuse at anyone overtaking them or be faced with teh banstick
Brilliant !! Implement now CCP
